Bottle-Necking!,HELP ME!
- Pros: Great Build Quality, Amazing Warranty, Decent Specs, and supposedly awesome GPU.
Clicky Keyboard :) Wonderful Screen, and 12x8 res is doing me just fine for everything.
- Cons: This Laptop is the King of Bottle Necking in every aspect.
Left 4 Dead plays at Max settings at 50 FPS @ 12x8, but then slows to a halt for 10 seconds and then goes 50 FPS for 4 seconds. I had to figure out to turn off the page file in the system and in L4D options to get 25-50 FPS on L4D.
On Fallout it falls apart and gets bottlenecked with pretty much any settings on a 12x8 res. This is not acceptable!
On most every game despite me trying with different settings this laptop goes high frames then low frames, like a dumb roller coaster.
I am so dissapointed with the performance, I want my money back.
*Advice, stay clear of this thing, the drivers suck, and the T5800 proc and 5400RPM HDD really kill this thing.
- Other Thoughts: IF YOU CAN HELP ME ATTAIN good FPS, please do!
I tried 5 different drivers, the new nvidia 179 notebook BETA drivers, the ASUS 176 default drivers, the laptopvideo2go drivers, the mobility moder drivers, etc.
I think will try to update the BIOS to 207, it comes with 205 BIOS ver.
Also, I removed indexing service and tons of other boalty things in this Laptop to try and speed it up. Nothing has helped.
=== I put Windows XP 64bit with an arrangement of drivers as well, and again after hours of updating, etc. the performance of this Laptop was Pathetic.
Good Machine
- Pros: Dedicated video card for gaming. 14" screen is small enough for good portability. Not too heavy compared to some other laptops.
Runs Left 4 Dead on med/high graphics with no issues (I have turned off all unnecessary programs in the startup list).
- Cons: Facial recognition log-in doesnt work well in differently lighted areas.
32bit Vista only recognizes 3G of ram. Dxdiag says the other gig of ram is being used as video memory, but I have been told that is impossible. I think the keyboard does miss some of my key presses, but not enough to really bother me. When I am paying attention to it it doesnt happen. so it is probably just my keying technique. Has a hard time playing F.E.A.R. (on high graphics), I think because FEAR doesnt support a widescreen resolution. Plays newer games just fine.
- Other Thoughts: Windows Experience Index:
Processor: 4.9 RAM: 4.8 Graphics (Aero): 4.9 Graphics (Gaming): 5.3 HD: 5.5
Good deal, but needs to be potty-trained
- Pros: Great deal for the hardware it packs, light and portable.
- Cons: Glossy screen, massive bloatware, terrible keyboard driver that makes typing a major pain.
- Other Thoughts: If you're going to get this computer, I recommend putting on a fresh, clean install of Visa as soon as you get it, using the restore disk that comes with it. This will save you the hassle of manually removing all of the stupid bloatware, and also resolved the keyboard issues for me. You'll need to manually install a few of the drivers, but just running setup.exe off of the included driver disk did the job for me.
