Not as Advertised
- Pros: LED screen is crisp and sharp. Would like to know exactly how many LED's are used in the screen.
- Cons: This laptop was listed (until 1 week ago) as having a 2.6 P8600 processor/chip set. According to Intel, the P8600 is only available up to a 2.4 - max. I purchased it with the full expectation of having a 2.6 processor and 7200 RPM HDD. This leads to another point - the HDD is NOT 7200 RPMs. It is 5400 RPMs. This may have been corrected by now, but who knows. Grab some diagnostic software to check the read/writes/access times of your HDD to make sure you have a 7200 RPM. Also, be advised that even though Intel specs the P8600 FSB at 1066MHz, it may have been dialed down to 800Mhz by ASUS for stability reasons. Before buying any laptop always call the manufacturer and ask specifically what the FSB speed is. Don’t rely on Intel specs alone! This model number (N50Vn-X5A) does not appear on ASUS's website. ASUS's tech support said that this is because many retailers (such as Newegg) ask for PCs to be delivered with certain upgrades or downgrades that can be marketed more easily.
- Other Thoughts: Therefore, the N50Vn-X5A is a model # that is produced/upgraded for Newegg only. I returned this laptop because it was not what I thought I had ordered. Huge props to Newegg, though. They allowed me to order another laptop closer to the specs I thought I was getting (practically any laptop I wanted) and matched the price of the N50Vn-X5A. I was able to get a N50Vn-C2S for the price of an N50Vn-X5A. Thank you Newegg!!!

Very nice rig for 1000 dollar range
- Pros: Well, where to start... first off ASUS has awesome customer service. Received the laptop and was extremely impressed as soon as I started it up. As much as I hate Vista the system booted quickly and I decided to put it to the test. Ran CoD4 with no hitches, Company of Heroes, and even the RAM hog Grand Theft Auto 4. Great for watching movies yet still small enough to be transportable. I love the screen and the vibrancy of the colors. Like the numpad a lot on the laptop keyboard. Impressed for the most part, however with the cons you'll see why I gave it a 4 star.
XP 64 drivers easy to find.
- Cons: There was a lot of junk added on. Why can't I just get an OEM copy of ANY OS instead of all the cr*p that comes with it. Not only that, but why is it just a Vista "restore disk".
Not that it matters....I hate vista. Period.
Now that we have that out of the way, why would you put 4 gigs of RAM and a 1 gig video card into a system and then package it up and send it out with a 32 bit OS?? Doesn't matter, I remedied that quick enough.
Why are the majority of the USB ports on the left? No big deal there but doesn't make much sense.
Good Buy
- Pros: Sound can be turned up in the bios. Very fast computer. Every thing that I expected It to be.
- Cons: none yet.
- Other Thoughts: good buy for the specs the computer has.
- Pros: Exactly as described / pictured. Excellent product thus far. Runs extremely cool. Number pad present on keyboard is a plus. Large comfortable keys with great speaker placement and good sound.
- Cons: 4gb of RAM and no 64bit OS to take advantage. I formatted upon recieving and installed Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Works very well, no driver issues whatsoever.
- Other Thoughts: I will be buying Asus from now on for my laptop needs. This is better quality and price than most all other brands. Sleek look, not too heavy, great options.
