The N50 series notebook from Asus revolutionizes the way you get your entertainment on the go. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM provide an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved multimedia and multitasking performance, perfect for those that have lots to do and little time to do it.

The 15.4" widescreen with LED backlight display movies and pictures with stunning clarity, true-to-life color, and razor-sharp detail. You may never run out of room to store your documents, pictures, and audio and video files with the 320GB hard drive. Use the DVD Super Multi drive to create your own portable media and backup files.

The webcam also works with face recognition software so you can log on with just a look, or for additional security use the fingerprint reader by the touchpad. All of this functionality is great, but useless in isolation. So, there's a plethora of wired and wireless connection options. Circling the shell are 3xUSB, 1xFireWire, 1x eSATA, 1xGigabit Ethernet, 1xHDMI and more. Wireless connectivity includes 802.11b/g/n.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I have had no problems with this laptop whatsoever. It runs very fast in Windows 7 RC, which installed fine.

Cons: The webcam was installed upside down, so you need the latest drivers, but they fix it.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop for the price.

4 out of 5 eggsPowerful for the Price

Pros: This machine ran WoW at 60fps and less than 100ms lag without even installing the program. I ran it over my home network from a computer running XP Home. I was completely amazed.

The security software is also pretty sweet. I wouldn't rely on face recognition as it's not as secure as fingerprints (proof of concept tests have shown you can use a 2 dimensional picture out of a magazine to bypass face recognition).

This machine is fast!

Cons: There is indeed a lot of bloatware. CCleaner or PC Decrapifier will do the trick but some progams are hard to identify as to whether they are necessary. Gotta figure out which daemons you actually need.

Other Thoughts: I just upgraded from a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 1501. I had no idea you could get a laptop this nice for the price. It actually runs WoW better than my desktop computer. I'll be installing Win7 on this as soon as it's released. It's faster than Vista and XP.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: I love this laptop. I run everything on it that I want from games to work. It is light weight, has a great picture and it runs quiet and cool.

Cons: It was to big to fit in a standard size laptop bag. There was some bloat ware but every new computer does.

Other Thoughts: Great computer for the money

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good Laptop

Pros: Extremly Fast, Low Priced, Full Keyboard, Powerful.

Cons: If you drop this thing, it's definately going to crack. It feels a little flimsy.

It wish it felt a bit sturdier, like a Lenovo or a Sony laptop.

Other Thoughts: The value that you get is incredible. 1GB of video memory is great for gaming. I have played WoW & TF2 on it. Run very smooth for a laptop. Definately worth the money! Perfect for moderate gamer.

I formatted the laptop right away and installed Windows 7 x64 RC on it. I don't like Vista and I'm not a fan of pre-installed software.

Runs Windows 7 x64 smoothly. There were about 4 or 5 drivers that were not found by the Windows 7 Installation.

2 or 3 of them were the Card Readers
1 Finger Print Sensor
1 some ACPI thing

The card reader drivers were found at Asus's website, so as the ACPI thing (it was called ATK or something similiar on their site). (downloaded drivers for x64 Vista on their site to run for Win7x64)

The fingerprint driver from Asus's website will not work.
Leave the reader with no driver and run Windows 7 Update. You'll see a UPEK finger printer driver under optional downloads if you look hard enough. That just about covers it

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of cheap mouse buttons!

Pros: Cheap, Decent hardware specs.

Cons: Cheaply built!!! Beware the chrome mouse buttons actually are not chrome plastic, but black plastic with chrome stickers on them. On the left click button half the sticker pealed off and now i have a half black, half chrome button, and it looks ridiculous !!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: This laptop is great. In the counter-strike video stress test, it scored 194 frames per second. It will handle anything you throw at it with ease. The logon system is very nice. You can either let it recognize your face, scan your finger, or type in a password. The laptop looks great, and really isn't that big compared to other gaming laptops. Having a number pad is really nice. Vista really isn't as bad as I though it would be. It runs very quite and doesn't put out much heat. The warranty is unbeatable!

Cons: Keys sometimes don't type a letter when you hit them, but it doesn't happen very often. I type fast so that might be why.
The face recognition software sometimes doesn't recognize your face.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people complained about the bloatware. Honestly, my mom's Compaq had way more than this computer did. Just install the PC Decrapifier and it'll take care of any programs you don't want.

If anyone I know is looking for a laptop for college to edit photos and video, or to play games, I'll recommend this for sure.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, powerful laptop

Pros: -Very powerful
-Great feeling keyboard
-Really nice looking
-Many different kinda of ports

I've tested the computer with applications like Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, and it runs super fast, without any problems. I have also tested it with games like Left 4 Dead, Demigod, and Crysis, and while Crysis can only run on med-high, everything else runs in high really smoothly and it plays great.
The keyboard controls to change the power mode and screen colour mode are neat touches, but I don't really notice much of a difference when I change modes...
The computer itself is super sexy looking, very nice keyboard with big keys, and tons of ports for plugging everything you want into it. It is very quiet, until of course you put a CD in there, then, like all computers, you hear it spinning.

Cons: -VISTA SUCKS!!!!
-Full of bloat-ware, to the point where it's almost unusable
-Some of the features don't work in XP
-Hunting for XP drivers is a headache
-Fingerprint magnet

Oh my goodness how Vista sucks. I have used it before on other computers that weren't filled to the brim with bloat-ware and I didn't like it very much. On this computer, it's pretty much unusable! There's so much stuff on it when you first get it, you might as well just format it right from the beginning.
After formatting and putting on my version of XP, everything worked great, though I had to search around for drivers for EVERYTHING, which is to be expected. Took me a while to find everything, but once I did, I still could not get the fingerprint reader and air ionizer working. Oh well...
This thing is also a BIG fingerprint/dust magnet, get ready to clean often.

Other Thoughts: Best laptop I've ever owned. For the price, this is top quality, great for gamers. Don't go for that mac, or dell. Stretch your dollar further by buying a powerful computer like this one.

5 out of 5 eggs:D2

Pros: Amazing video quality, long battery life, good webcam, good fingerprint recognition software.

The fingerprint software comes with a built in "personal safe" where you can have your private folder, that no one can access without your fingerprint or password.

It also allows you to archive files in the same manner.

Cons: The only noticable -flaw- is that the hard drive is having terrible difficulty writing, at times. Most of the time, it'll write smootly and run fine.

While I've been installing (and playing!) Fallout 3, the hard drive began to click, the computer began to beep, and two out of three times the computer shut itself down.

From there it would restart, fail to start, and restart again - a Windows feature would then repair the hard drive malfunction.

Other Thoughts: Worth it for the gamer. My hard drive is probably an individual problem with the hard drive, instead of the manufacturing quality. I love this laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: - good price
- numpad keyboard
- 1 gig video memory

Cons: - Vista
- bloatware
- does seem kinda bulky

Other Thoughts: This is the first laptop I have ever owned. I am very satisfied with my purchase. The computer runs my 3D software with no problem at all. It is a good gaming computer as well, Unreal Tournament 3 and Fallout 3 run at full settings with ease. The fingerprint reader is cool, but was kind of a pain to set up at first. If you are thinking about buying this computer I would, unless you can find a better computer / better deal.
