Great for the price
- Pros: EXCELLENT performance. I bought this laptop for college, and working with this computer is a breeze. I can also play Team Fortress 2 with no frame lag at all. As an added bonus, it has this facial recognition software called SmartLogon that lets me log in without having to enter my password. The numpad has a shortcut that opens calculator, which might come in handy later. The express card slot doubles as an SD memory card storage area.
- Cons: This is only my second day using the laptop and after installing MagicDisc the DVD-RW drive (a GSA-T50N, which seems to have detection issues based on my Google search) disappeared from Device Manager. Pressing the eject button would do nothing while in windows, but would eject the drive while in BIOS so I was sure that this was a detection problem. Uninstalling the program didn't work so I had to do a system restore to fix it, which was quite a hassle. Thankfully, I'm not seeing those issues anymore with Daemon tools. Also, this comes with Vista 32-bit even though it's packaged with 4GB of RAM. I'm just not sure why Asus could have simply given this laptop Vista 64-bit.
- Other Thoughts: The HDD is pre-partitioned into three parts: ~12GB (unformatted), ~150GB NTFS (w/ vista 32-bit), and ~137GB NTFS so I guess you can install XP or whatever you want on either of the remaining two. Although it has a fingerprint scanner, the Trusted Platform Module on my computer seems to be either missing or undetected by the BIOS so I can't really try it out. Thankfully, this isn't really a big issue for me since I don't need that much security, but now I kinda wish my finger print scanner could have been a middle mouse button or scroll button.
Great laptop, Great price
- Pros: Let me start by saying that this laptop packs a lot of power for the price you pay. I have tested games such as crysis, mass effect, and Unreal Tournament 3 already, and they all run with great performance and graphics. The laptop its self is very shiny and stylish. I thank asus for not going with over the top flashy outer lighting, as it tends to distract and eat up battery life. Aside from the outstanding game performance, this laptop is over all a speedy computer no matter what you are doing. I was able to run an installation of crysis, and surf the internet, while downloading and updating the bios and graphics drivers. This computer makes short work of any multitasking you might have to do. For all the blender 3d modelers or similar graphic design programs, this computer comes equipped with an extended keyboard with the number pad, which makes things much easier to do. The hard drive while somewhat small runs very fast. This laptop has a very nice screen with decent resolution.
- Cons: My list of cons are not exactly cons, just things that could have been a bit better. First off as others have commented, the screen has some unused space above it, part of which is due to the web cam. Initially when I was trying to start Mass Effect an error message appeared saying that it could not start. But after a bios and graphics driver update, the game ran perfectly. Others have said that the laptop is to shiny and attracts to many fingerprints, but I tend to disagree. Owning a nice laptop like this is a bit like owning a sports car. You don't hear to many people complaining about how shiny their new car is now do you? It just needs a few periodic cleans and its fine. One thing that bugs me is how loud the touch pads left and right clickers are, but as I use a usb mouse, this is not a major set back for me.
- Other Thoughts: This computer is well worth the thousand dollar price tag. Anyone out their who is searching the internet for a laptop that is small, and very powerful, please look no further. This laptop should do anything and everything that you have. Unless you fancy running crysis at max graphics with full anti-aliasing and max resolution, this laptop should be fine for any gamer out their. Bottom line is you should definitely consider this laptop before casting it aside to look for somthing better.
Good for the money
- Pros: Runs games well at a good frame rate. Good features with bluetooth. Good wireless networking ability. If you are wanting a good gaming laptop, this is a good investment.
- Cons: Vista 32 bit??!! Should have been 64 bit. Bloatware that needs to be removed. (But this is no big problem.) Mircosoft Office should not be a trial version.
- Other Thoughts: Good laptop for the money, if you want a good budget gaming laptop with 4 GB Ram and 2.4 Duo processor, this is the one to buy.
