5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: EXCELLENT performance. I bought this laptop for college, and working with this computer is a breeze. I can also play Team Fortress 2 with no frame lag at all. As an added bonus, it has this facial recognition software called SmartLogon that lets me log in without having to enter my password. The numpad has a shortcut that opens calculator, which might come in handy later. The express card slot doubles as an SD memory card storage area.

Cons: This is only my second day using the laptop and after installing MagicDisc the DVD-RW drive (a GSA-T50N, which seems to have detection issues based on my Google search) disappeared from Device Manager. Pressing the eject button would do nothing while in windows, but would eject the drive while in BIOS so I was sure that this was a detection problem. Uninstalling the program didn't work so I had to do a system restore to fix it, which was quite a hassle. Thankfully, I'm not seeing those issues anymore with Daemon tools. Also, this comes with Vista 32-bit even though it's packaged with 4GB of RAM. I'm just not sure why Asus could have simply given this laptop Vista 64-bit.

Other Thoughts: The HDD is pre-partitioned into three parts: ~12GB (unformatted), ~150GB NTFS (w/ vista 32-bit), and ~137GB NTFS so I guess you can install XP or whatever you want on either of the remaining two. Although it has a fingerprint scanner, the Trusted Platform Module on my computer seems to be either missing or undetected by the BIOS so I can't really try it out. Thankfully, this isn't really a big issue for me since I don't need that much security, but now I kinda wish my finger print scanner could have been a middle mouse button or scroll button.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, Great price

Pros: Let me start by saying that this laptop packs a lot of power for the price you pay. I have tested games such as crysis, mass effect, and Unreal Tournament 3 already, and they all run with great performance and graphics. The laptop its self is very shiny and stylish. I thank asus for not going with over the top flashy outer lighting, as it tends to distract and eat up battery life. Aside from the outstanding game performance, this laptop is over all a speedy computer no matter what you are doing. I was able to run an installation of crysis, and surf the internet, while downloading and updating the bios and graphics drivers. This computer makes short work of any multitasking you might have to do. For all the blender 3d modelers or similar graphic design programs, this computer comes equipped with an extended keyboard with the number pad, which makes things much easier to do. The hard drive while somewhat small runs very fast. This laptop has a very nice screen with decent resolution.

Cons: My list of cons are not exactly cons, just things that could have been a bit better. First off as others have commented, the screen has some unused space above it, part of which is due to the web cam. Initially when I was trying to start Mass Effect an error message appeared saying that it could not start. But after a bios and graphics driver update, the game ran perfectly. Others have said that the laptop is to shiny and attracts to many fingerprints, but I tend to disagree. Owning a nice laptop like this is a bit like owning a sports car. You don't hear to many people complaining about how shiny their new car is now do you? It just needs a few periodic cleans and its fine. One thing that bugs me is how loud the touch pads left and right clickers are, but as I use a usb mouse, this is not a major set back for me.

Other Thoughts: This computer is well worth the thousand dollar price tag. Anyone out their who is searching the internet for a laptop that is small, and very powerful, please look no further. This laptop should do anything and everything that you have. Unless you fancy running crysis at max graphics with full anti-aliasing and max resolution, this laptop should be fine for any gamer out their. Bottom line is you should definitely consider this laptop before casting it aside to look for somthing better.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: Runs games well at a good frame rate. Good features with bluetooth. Good wireless networking ability. If you are wanting a good gaming laptop, this is a good investment.

Cons: Vista 32 bit??!! Should have been 64 bit. Bloatware that needs to be removed. (But this is no big problem.) Mircosoft Office should not be a trial version.

Other Thoughts: Good laptop for the money, if you want a good budget gaming laptop with 4 GB Ram and 2.4 Duo processor, this is the one to buy.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome machine 4 price

Pros: Most have already said, and it is true. For the price this is the best machine I could find. And I searched for months. The warranty is excellent with no extra charge. The screen size is perfect. It doesn't make the laptop bulky, but it is still big. I also can't wait for my free upgrade to windows 7. Then vista will finally be gone!!! The keyboard is also a great size. The numpad was shrunk so they could fit it in, and the normal keys are big enough for me. And the numpad was huge for me because I have to use numbers quite a bit. It is much more functional than having to get an external device or using the top numbers.

Cons: These aren't really cons, but just some more info. Battery life is three hours just running normally, and the speakers aren't great quality but they work just fine. I use headphones anyway. The clicker on the pad is loud, but I hate those pads anyway and have a mouse so its not a problem for me. Overall there is no dealbreaker at all. These are very minimal cons to a overall great laptop.

Other Thoughts: This is the everything laptop. It will get the job done. That sums it up. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsBest bang for your buck

Pros: Specs: Great specs on RAM, Video Card, CPU and Hard Drive RPM's.
---
Performance: So far, SO good! Very speedy installs of software, decent battery life (about 3 hours), and great response time thanks to the dual core cpu and ample amount of memory.
---
Price: For the $1k price point, you get a LOT for your money. I specced out laptops at Lenovo, HP, and Dell and a similarly equipped machine is around $1200.
---
Warranty: Any other manufacturer would not supply accidental damage coverage without an extra $60-100. And 1 year coverage is the norm for the big name guys, while Asus provides 2 year coverage. This is a huge selling point for me, and is nice to see someone stepping up their game!

Cons: As noted before, the clickers below the mouse pad are pretty loud. However, you can always use the touchpad for single clicks, keyboard shortcuts for right clicks, or just get a decent external mouse.
---
eSATA plug is on the front edge of the laptop. I don't have an eSATA drive, but when I do this is going to be a PITA to have connected with the plug sticking out of the front.
---
<nitpicking>The ASUS slogan is idiotic: "Rock Solid. Heart touching."??? Come on guys, it may translate well in other countries but it sounds like you're selling a big teddy bear or my little pony. Every time I see that it just seems like a pretty unprofessional slogan. </nitpicking>

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers have mentioned the glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet...but I don't have that issue. Maybe you need to wash your hands once in a while or stop eating nachos while you game??? JK, but seriously I like the glossy finish and if you wipe it down once a week or so it stays classy!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop

Pros: *Slick Design-Very cool looking machine
*High Performance-Very nice graphics card, awesome amount of ram, decent processor
*Price-An equivalent powered machine from Alienware(Dell) costs $800.00 more

Cons: This is just nitpicking here, but because the entire thing is glossy, it attracts fingerprints like no other. After 2 minutes of using it, its already covered.

The two click buttons are rather hard to press down and seem rather flimsy. My suggestion is to use am external mouse.

Other Thoughts: Just so people don't get too flustered, I encountered a small issue where my desktop icons would dissapear shortly after startup. This is due to the energy saving settings that can be switched over on the hardware. Make sure its on maximum, or they will go.

Also, why did they send me this s-video cable when there are absolutely no plugs that go with it?

5 out of 5 eggsA Great Value

Pros: Gaming- Plays all current games fine at just under the highest settings (has some trouble with anti-aliasing at high levels, but that's it).

Overall Performance: It's just amazingly fast, performs like a desktop. I haven't had a single complaint about its speed yet.

Screen: Very big and clear.

Cons: Heating: Buy a fan if you want to play games on it, otherwise, this heats up very fast.

Bloatware: you should immediately uninstall half the programs it comes with.

Keyboard: Feels great, but I had to press the keys pretty hard to get them to type. This seems to have gone away, though.

Build Quality: It feels fragile, but that may just be the weight.

Other Thoughts: It's a little on the big side, which is both a plus and minus. It's not something you carry around everywhere, but the screen is nice and big, and it's not too obnoxious to take on a car or bus trip.

The speakers aren't as bad as some people make them out to be, and neither is the battery life. But they both are mediocre. You won't be blasting any music on this, or watching too many movies on the run.

Overall, it's just a great value for the price. If you want an do everything laptop without paying car prices on it, this has to be at the top of the list.

5 out of 5 eggsPhyraxean Thoughts

Pros: The insides of the computer are beautiful for the price you pay. The graphics card works like a dream, most of the drivers were already up to date, and the case itself is sexy. I was hesitant regarding the numpad, but the keyboard feels excellent and I have had no problems getting used to it. (Keyboard is perfect for sausage-fingered-folk like me.)

Cons: Let's get the obvious out of the way:
It comes with Vista which is terrible. (Fortunately, it comes pre-partitioned with a near-even split of hard drive space, so installing XP or W7 should be cake)
Bloatware is abundant, you have to install Norton before you can uninstall, and the fingerprint scanner is useless for someone using it as a gaming laptop. For a workplace, I'm sure it'd be fine, but for personal use, not so much.

I'm having a few problems getting sound to work constantly on it, having to fiddle with some settings and the two different sound-controlling programs, but that's part of owning a computer.

Other Thoughts: For the price you pay, this is a beast machine.
