4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: 8-cell battery
Free bag and mouse
Free Win7 upgrade
Fastish CPU
Decent Video
blue ray
Hard drive space
Plays WOW 2x AA everything but shadows on high @ native res just fine 60FPS+(haven't ran any large raids yet though). Plays C&C3 just fine as well as Wolfenstein. The CPU chugs through most modern tasks Office, web browsing etc with no wait time. For the money without waiting for a super big sale I came to this model and a sony Viao.

Cons: Web cam is very low quality. On the same note so is the face recognition feature. Even though the N70 features altec lansing speakers...they are pretty horrible. When watching iron man on blue ray I can barely hear the voice, guns and bullets are audible and this is in my office - no noise.
The hard drives are faster then most 5400rpm drives, but imo not noticeable for everyday use.
Blue ray is a cool feature but in the cost of No CDR or DVDR burning. No where does is mention this, you can not burn anything with the BD-Combo just read ability. The OS comes so cluttered with bloatware I was forced to reformat which I was going to do anyways for 64bit vista ultimate.
Not much room for upgrade 4gbs Ram is max, GPU is what you get custom from ASUS, I need to do more research on the CPU however.

Other Thoughts: Nice laptop for the money, imo not a desktop replacement but for the price of this I wouldn't expect it to be. Overall I am satisfied. Newegg shipping and service once again spot on without issues. No dead pixels missing equipment or anything, from the west coast to the east coast

5 out of 5 eggsGo ASUS!

Pros: This is the best bang for your buck on a gaming laptop/desktop replacement. Fast, fast, fast! Dual harddrives, set up in raid 0...Blueray! WOW! I used to buy HP...no more!

Cons: Getting the bluray software to work was a nightmare. BEFORE you load the software, update direct X to the latest version, and it will be seamless. Took a few hours of google to find this out.

Other Thoughts: Register your laptop within 60 days, and ASUS give you a drop, spill, surge, fire warranty for a year, on top of the 2 year warranty it comes with. Nobody offers that type of security and comfort in a laptop purchase. Qualifies for the windows 7 upgrade for free!

4 out of 5 eggsNot perfect...

Pros: Best bang for your buck without a doubt. The hadware is fantastic. And despite a couple hic-cups from vista and a lot of bloatware it was pretty much ready to go right out of the box. Blu-ray movies look great and it handles most new games at high settings.

Cons: The blu-ray sotware that comes with the laptop does not work right off the bat and you will most likely be in contact with asus' or corel's tech support for a few days. (corel tech is only free via email, it is fee based over the phone) I took a different route and just purchased some software to avoid the hassle. Also you can't tweak the graphics card very much at all, even just through the nvidia software it causes crashes and freezes. Not to much of a problem though as it performs quite well. Also the 2 hard drives are divided into four partitions, which is quite annoying.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am very happy with this purchase. But I will be upgrading to windows 7 as fast as possible. 4 eggs for the blu-ray software issue, the default partitioning and the bloatware.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Happy with Customer Support

Pros: I like the unit and was very happy with it initially.

Cons: Blu-Ray drive dead on arrival. DVD/CDs played with no problem. I called ASUS support and reinstalled drives ect. Finally they wanted me to send in the whole laptop. I have over 30 years experience in electronics/computers so I was positive what the problem was. I requested initially instead of sending the whole laptop back just send me a new blu-ray drive. Blu-Ray drive arrived and I exchanded the drives and now every thing works fine. Then I found out that I have to pay to send the drive back. I don't understand why I have to pay shipping to replace a broken part on a brand new laptop. This is my second Asus laptop in less than 18 months and I can't remember the last time I didn't use one of their motherboards when building a system.

Other Thoughts: The Blu-Ray drive not working was a minor problem and since I have had only one bad motherboard over the years from them I thought nothing of it. The fact that I have to pay to fix their problem, this has turned a minor problem I would have forgotton about into a major strike against ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry to hear about your situation. However, our warranty policy only provides one way shipping of hardware components. For more information, please contact us at 1-888-678-3688 - option 3; option 1.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: This is a great Laptop, with a powerful CPU, Lot's of ram, a powerful GPU and tons of storage. I bought this for school and I am sure I made the right choice. The dual-core CPU at 2.66Ghz gives a lot of power to multi-task and run several apps. I wasn't sure how the Geforce 130m GPU would handle gamming but so far I have been able to run a few games (Eve Online, Fear 2) on native res with all the settings on full.

This Laptop looks very nice and the large screen is very high quality. I am also very happy that it has a HDMI port in the back, so I can hook it into my 24' monitor or my plasma tv with 1 easy cable. Asus included some nice features with this Laptop, such as the facial recognition login software and the power management program. The Function keys are easy to use and it's great having a full numberpad as well. Battery life is about 1.45 hours, but with this power thats expected.

I bought this Laptop on sale and IMO the Cost to Performance just can't be beat!

Cons: The Altec Lansing speakers are wimpy and don't have great output and due to their position (front of laptop angled under the wrist resting position) it makes hearing the low output volume worse. The Audio Out and SPDIF headphone jacks don't suffer from this problem though; so with a good pair of headphones or travle speakers you can get great sound.

Asus included a lot of bloat-ware that I removed and will never use.

As mentioned the glossy finish collects smudges rather quickly, but thats hardly a big CON.

Other Thoughts: It came with a rather nice carring bag with lot's of room to fit the laptop, a RJ45 Internet cable, Power adapter (with a nice long cord) and still have room for a Text book and Binder.

Asus included a 2 year Accidently Damage Warranty with registration. Just go to ADW.Asus.com and input the Serial Number and some other info.

I shopped around before making this purchace and I am glad I came back to this laptop becasue for what you get it's the best deal I could find!

5 out of 5 eggsPower for the price

Pros: Each piece of hardware is top quality.
The processor can handle most anything you need.
The screen size and it's resolution (16:9) at 1600 x 900 are perfect for size freaks.
The hard drive space is excellent, especially for 7200 RPM.

Cons: The bloatware can be overcome, but with a little work...
The video card wasn't all I expected it to be, but mobile cards have a bigger difference than I anticipated.

Other Thoughts: Left 4 dead runs smoothly with no AA or Anistropic filtering, but the texture quality and paged pool memory remain at high. Effect detail and shader quality have to be at medium, but that's to be expected.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Laptop

Pros: Very fast computer at a really good price. Large clean display
for a laptop.

Cons: Too much bloatware. I don't know why any of the software that comes installed on this computer is necessary or who thinks its a good idea. It hard to display the full power of the computer behind the mess of programs running in the background. It's PC's number one problem and ASUS simply made it worse. Shameful.

Other Thoughts: You can uninstall said bloatware though I shouldn't have to.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: I don't know where to start. The processor, the hard drive, the video card, the screen, and the memory are all amazing. I spent a lot of time looking for the best laptop and this is hands down the greatest one around for the price. The hard drive even runs at 7200 rpm which is uncommon for any laptop. I haven't had my laptop for very long but so far I have had no problems. The two year warrenty and no dead pixel promise along with a two year warrenty make getting an asus notebook even better.

Cons: *I guess it is a little heavy and kind of big but what do you expect with everything that is in it.

*It smudges easy but I wouldn't say that is a con because it looks great with or without smudges.

*Some people had Blue-ray problems but mine worked just fine. You do have to install the program and probably update it though. The install is very fast and so was the update.

Other Thoughts: What else is there to say...

*Vista is already installed you just have to add your username and some other information.

*The bloatware is stupid but only a minor inconvenience.

*The keys are a little different than a normal laptop keyboard but I like the change in style.

*I guess I would say the mouse is kind of cheap but it is free so there really isn't anything to complain about.

*I almost forgot for anyone planning on gaming with this, it can run any game but not at max settings. So far I have tried Left for Dead (full aa) which runs maxed out with no lag and Crysis Warhead which runs at medium settings with no aa perfectly.
