5 out of 5 eggsTime to move no

Pros: Time to move on.... The time has come to retire this good old friend. Had had it for 4 years. This has been a reliable and hard worker laptop. Never complained, It has and still has a good performance, speed and enough hard drive space for my needs.

Cons: the audio was always an issue, but not take an egg away for this!

1 out of 5 eggsPass On This Unit

Pros: - Great Specs
- Cheap Price

Cons: Screen Flickers

Other Thoughts: I've had to send this laptop back to ASUS once, because as noted by other users, the screen flickers. I thought it could be the inverter, because that's what they do when they go bad. But they replaced the screen.

Well, not even a couple months after getting it back it started flickering again. My wife and I are tired of rocking the screen back and forth to make it stop, so an RMA request for repair number 2 is in.

It's just sad that it's the same problem again, only now the caps lock sticks and the spacebar likes to not to work.

I don't know if it's just cheap parts in this thing or what, but what's the use of having a warranty for 3 years and you have to get it serviced every year for the same issue?

This has put a sour spot in my mouth and my wife's. We still like their motherboards, but this laptop......just disappointing.

We don't suggest ASUS laptops to anyone and others have commented of the exact issue we're having with other ASUS laptops. Won't buy anoth

5 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Durability - This is an incredible computer for a harsh work environment. Rock solid construction, and the texture of the exerior surface is EXTREMELY resistant to scratches.

Cons: Performance - Not exactly a powerhouse. Great as an extra pc For internet, typesettng, & music.

A little bogged down with unnecessary software. Nothing too out of the ordinary though.

Other Thoughts: Great PC. But I would recommend the 17" Version.
There is not much of a price difference, you get a much bigger screen, and a MUCH better graphics card.

I rated this laptop at 5 stars. It is not the best in the performance department, but I know 3 years from now it will still be working, and looking just like it does today.

1 out of 5 eggs***WARNING-DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE***

Pros: Supposedly a good buy. Beautiful case, very light. Worked first.

Cons: Everything else, and ASUS customer support.

Other Thoughts: SO, after just one week I began to see horizontal lines across an external display. Tried 3 different displays in every room in my hose, same issue. Sent in to ASUS, they've now had my laptop for over A MONTH!!!!!! I have had to make all efforts to communicate with these knuckle heads, and the last time they said they could find nothing wrong and were going to send it back.
I refused to ok it until it is repaired and now they (ASUS) is blaming me for this taking so long because I won't "let them send it back to me" without repairing the issue.
SO, I still have no laptop, and am waiting now to see what happens. THey're supposed to call me in a few days...not holding my breath.
Calle newegg, they can't help me until I get my laptop back. They were willing to contact ASUS on my behalf, but I've already done that.
Hope this works out in the end.....BEWARE BUYERS, to good to be true, it probably is!!!!!!!

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely apologize for not having your unit serviced in a timely manner. I would like to assist you with getting this issue resolved, please email me your current RMA number at

Best Regards,
Asus Product Support

3 out of 5 eggsPricing

Pros: This was a black friday buy.
New egg keep change the price, first 549, than 499, than 449. Not fair to many.
Unit is basic and ok.. Asus name is good. but that is about all that is good now from asus.

Cons: not at this time.

Other Thoughts: Basic unit for a present. served the need.

5 out of 5 eggsRock on Asus!

Pros: Large anti glare screen, full keyboard, good amount of storage space, 4 gigs ram, duel core, windows 7, average webcam quality, double finger scroll, 8 second boot, fast speed, average battery life, runs cold, snagged it for $450 and free shipping before Christmas. I love it!

Cons: Not quite as large as a full 17 inch so some keys are a wee bit scrunched. Even with basket weave design I still can get smudges, but this can cleaned. Left right click can be somewhat erratic when using the pad. Volume isn't best, I would recommend speakers or headphones. Drive is split into two 160 gig partitions (irritating). DVD drive is a loud sucker when burning disks at iTunes. I may have just gotten a partially defective drive. CD's still play beautifully and after burn is complete. Drive reads quietly the rest of the time.

Other Thoughts: I am a true believer in Asus. I use as many of their products as I can and have never once been disappointed. This is really a wonderful laptop for a person on a budget. It does not handle games that terribly well so if that's what you're looking for don't get this one. If you watch movies check email, listen to music, or write, this is perfect. Several other thoughts. Check out Microsoft's Arc mouse here at newegg to go with this laptop (FULLY Awesome!). Also for antivirus I use Microsoft security essentials. Works just as good as MacAfee or Norton for me and its free! Use open office(also free) for word processing if you don't want to spend a lot of money! One person did complain that this glitches playing movies. If you use Windows media player yes it does. Movies play perfectly fine through windows media center. Go to microsofts website and check out security/downloads to get the security center. You can google open office and it should come right up for you! Happy computing!

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid Indeed

Pros: Great construction. Fast and runs smoothly. No problems at all so far.

Cons: The sound quality from the speakers never reduce, even at max volume. But keep in mind, the speakers on the bottom on the front side of the base. So, if you intend to fill a mid-size room with music, you can. But I'd suggest that you tip the laptop over so that speakers are facing out into the room instead of the floor. This makes them blast. =D

1 out of 5 eggsCustomer support; Quality control

Pros: I can't really offer an opinion on the value of this item, because of the limited time I had to work with it.

Cons: The laptop arrived without a battery. I contacted ASUS customer support, they said the laptop had a battery when it left the factory, and perhaps the battery had been removed by the vendor. There was no indication that the packaging had been breached. They suggested I contact the vendor for any further support. I contacted the vendor (Newegg) and they issued an RMA. Neweggs policy on a RMA is to either issue a refund or a replacement, at their discretion. They decided I would be given a refund.

Other Thoughts: I purchased the laptop on "Black Friday" as a Christmas present for my wife. It looked like a good value at a great price. Now I'm back to square one looking for a comparable laptop. It won't be a ASUS (I suspect, that in fact, the laptop did not leave the factory with a battery installed. That calls into question their quality control.) It won't be purchased from Newegg because their decision to issue a refund as opposed to a replacement causes me to think that they suspect me of perpetrating some fraud to get a spare battery. I am disappointed, since I have been a loyal Newegg customer for more than eight years and have spent thousands of dollars in that time.

3 out of 5 eggsMaybe a good buy

Pros: The price was great only 499.00 with shipping included. Got here in 2 days. The specs look great. Wireless N and it looks like a good computer

Cons: One of the speakers didn't work so I sent it back to Newegg for a refund.

Other Thoughts: Not satisfied with Newegg at all on this one. They could ship it out in 2 days to me but it take over 2 weeks to get another one. I have been waiting since December 28th 2009 for another one. Currently January 7th 2010. It has taken forever. Not satisfied with Newegg at all. If you have to send your computer back then don't expect to get it back in a timely fashion. Worst Newegg experience I have ever had.
