3 out of 5 eggsLasted 2 years

Pros: Great performance for gaming at the price range.

Cons: Glossy screens are awful. Battery lasted less than a year, did not replace. Power adapter died a few months later, replaced with 3rd party adapter.
No longer powers up. May be a power supply (internal) problem, or something dead on the board.

Other Thoughts: Laptop was a greatvalue when it worked. Very acceptable gaming performance. Cheapo battery died quickly. Glossy laptop screens are terrible design.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor product! extended warranty worthless! Beware

Pros: Decent computer for first year. Then major headache

Cons: After first year, very unreliable. Noisy, slow, prone to shutting down. Repaired with new fan but problem persisted. Subsequently shut down completely. After less than 2 years ownership, having bought a 3 year extended warranty, I was left with no computer. Customer service said they were unable to repair it, all repair costs were deducted from initial price so that I got less than 50% back. No paperwork, no invoice, not even the computer returned to me. May have been refurbished and resold for all i know. Very shabby service.

Other Thoughts: I have been a newegg customer for many years, but no more! I shall. Never purchase from Newegg again

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This laptop has pretty good performance, it can run most games on fairly high settings even though it is two years old.

Cons: Lots of things have broken on this computer starting about one year after I got it. The warranty company has been absolutely horrendous. While it was under warranty one of the hinges broke and they refused to fix it, claiming it was "aesthetic" and wasn't funtional. Because hinges on a laptop don't hold the screen on or anything...

It produces MASSIVE amounts of heat and the fans broke at one point. Luckily the warranty company was willing to fix that problem.

The touchpad has also had some problems. Fairly early on the click buttons lost sensitivity and had to be pressed really hard to register a click. The touchpad has also recently started registering a zoom command constantly even when not being touched. This has registered the touchpad unusable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Desktop Replacement

Pros: Fast, can run basically any game at high settings (except resolution) pretty good speakers for a laptop.
has usb 3.0, making portable hard drives transfer crazy fast. Had the computer for about 3 years by now, everything still works pretty well.
upgraded to 8 gbs of ram, and there was a noticable difference once I told the os not to use pagefiling. (WARNING: DON'T DO THIS IF YOU LIKE YOUR DATA, IT SOMETIMES CAUSES UNAVOIDABLE CRASHES/FREEZES THAT REQUIRE A MANUAL RESTART. NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LAPTOP.)

SOLID build quality, the corners don't bend, even if you are holding all of the weight of the laptop with two fingers.

internal bluetooth works well with my wireless mouse (RAZER Orochi), even though most of the time I have it in wired mode (ultra high polling).

When the battery worked properly, I got about 1:45 out of it, which is pretty good considering it only has a dedicated card.

very good drivers for the graphics, switches properly to and from HDMI.

Cons: BATT went out, expected with lithium ion batteries.

After I reformatted, Ive been having a little trouble with the wifi, if I turn it off, and turn it back on, the system does not recognize it until I restart. Probably a driver issue.

I HATE how the media buttons feel squishy, and not well defined. wish there were next/prev song buttons.

THERMAL MANAGEMENT. This computer runs very hot. and when I say hot, i mean HOTTTT. when I received it, I was getting temps of about 65 C on idle. upon load, it would often hit 93,94 C. I took it apart, and I put some extra heat shielding in, as well as blew out the heat fins and oiled the fan. now it runs at about 52ish C. one of the cores reads at 57, but I think it is reading wrong. Soon I will reapply thermal grease, and see if that does anything.

Keyboard/palmrests get hot.

after 2 years (or my reformat.. hmmmm) the audio chip blew (mic muffled, even if using external mic). does not affect audio output. i use a usb mic and i

Other Thoughts: Overall, this laptop has served me well, and will probably go on to live another 4 or 5 years. It is a great little machine, and has been pretty durable (candle wax poured in it, still works great).

Although I do wish the thermal design was better, and wish it had switchable graphics (for batt life), this laptop is probably the best one I have owned.

After buying this laptop, I recommend asus products to all of my friends, and family.

Wish the bios wasn't locked..

Haven't used the headphone jack as a s/pdif jack as of yet, but I only really noticed that it had the capability about a month ago (great feature if you are into audio).

I mentioned the audio chip going out, but for the output, nothing has gone bad.
Supports high quality sample rates, which makes it great for djing or recording.

I wish I had a bigger HDD, but meh.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Specs, Significant Battery Problem

Pros: Good specs overall, i7 is about as speedy as I need. Decent display but I've seen better resolution and brightness on lower end laptops.

Handles video editing with no problems.

Cons: Just under one year of ownership, had an issue where the battery would drain from 100% to fully depleted in less than 5 minutes. Called ASUS and RMA'd the battery under warranty.

Now, just 8 months later, the new battery is having the same problem. Won't charge/hold a charge, and I get a red X over the battery indication that I should consider replacing the battery.

Laptop gets extremely hot, even on the battery saving setting with nothing running and the display dimmed down. Don't know that it's overheating, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Even on a brand new battery, the battery life was right at one hour on battery saving mode, which is almost useless for a laptop.

Other Thoughts: Would be a great machine if battery life was as advertised, or even "better".

Shouldn't have to RMA a battery in under a year, much less a second battery in under 8 months.

Very disappointed given the price tag.

1 out of 5 eggsSadface

Pros: It's probably a sweet laptop if it works.

Cons: It doesn't work. Well, it did work - for about a month. It randomly overheats somehow (I have a zalman cooler underneath) while running no programs whatsoever. No games or anything, it will just randomly decide to get extremely hot and freeze up. Shut it down, let it cool, turn it on and it's overheated within 2 minutes. Pretty sweet. Contacted tech support and this joyous RMA will likely take an entire month. Fantastic. Have to buy another laptop just to keep up with work while this one is being 'fixed.'

Other Thoughts: Hopefully they don't just reformat it and send it back with the same problem...

I've been a long-time ASUS buyer, mainly motherboards and such though. I decided to venture into their laptops because of this and am very disappointed, to say the least.

3 out of 5 eggsBad overheating problems

Pros: Fast computer, it looks pretty, it runs well, multitasks well, ect.

^ basically everything but what I listed in the cons. It's a great computer!

Cons: OVERHEATING. I've owned this computer for a little over a year, and lately I've been experiencing horrible overheating problems. It shuts down every time I try running a game because of the overheating, and won't turn on until it's cooled off. Also, even Netflix sometimes makes it overheat and turn off. I even have a laptop underneath.

Other Thoughts: When I first got the computer, I even had some problems with just random things that made me mad such as random slowness or shutting down. I had to restart my laptop multiple times a day (this doesn't apply anymore, it stopped after about a month).

It's a good computer if you can figure out a way to fix the overheating. If I can't figure this out, I will be trying to sell it and get a new one.

3 out of 5 eggsOverheats

Pros: Core i7
Radeon HD 5730
4GB DDR 3 Memory

Cons: After I got the laptop I started noticing that it ran pretty hot. However, this wasn't a big problem until I tried to game on it. When playing Civilization 5 the processor would easily reach TJ Max (100C) and shut down (this happened even after I got a cooling pad). I am slightly disappointed with this performance and think that I may have got a lemon.

Other Thoughts: I have emailed Asus tech support and hopefully they can help.

2 out of 5 eggsGood performance, but gets hot.

Pros: -It's much cheaper now than it was when I bought it.
-Good performance.
-Screen is generally good, and fine at different viewing angles.
-USB 3.0, though I haven't used it yet.
-It's not actually that heavy.

Cons: -Surface scratches pretty easily.

I'm not sure if this happens with all the notebooks or if it's just me, but starting around 6 month after I bought it it began to overheat. This laptop now sports hellish temperatures, if I put around 50 percent stress on the CPU it shoots up to 97 degrees celcius, and this is with a twin fan laptop cooler. Any more than that and it shuts off.

Other Thoughts: It's good, but you'd better wish that your laptop doesn't get these overheating problems
