2 out of 5 eggsGreat computer, just don't mod it

Pros: Great specs. solid performance.

Cons: I put my 64 GB SSD in this computer. After I had a fresh copy of windows 7 on this computer, I could not get drivers that worked.

Half the drivers on the asus website give errors in the middle of the install saying the devices aren't there.

I read that if you have their driver disk, those drivers work. Guess what? they refuse to sell me a driver disk. They refuse to admit there is a problem with their drivers. I don't have propper network drivers(I use sprint 3g/4g so it isn't too much of an issue). The ATI drivers are very old.

I've grown used to ASUS tech support not actually providing support. Everything of mine from ASUS that i have needed their tech support for I have ended up replacing with some other companies hardware.

Other Thoughts: I probably wont be buying an ASUS product in the future. They work great when they work, They are worthless and a waste of money if you get a product that doesn't work.

Again, ASUS tech support = failboat. You're wasting your time if you call them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Powerful CPU
Fast Memory
Fast Graphics
Amazing Design - Always easy to show off
Lit keyboard, sound clarity, powerful wireless

Cons: It took me 4 months of running the terrible stock drivers on this thing until ATI released new drivers. I couldn't run anything past 4X anti-aliasing with the stock one, but finally ATI came out with better stuff. Check out their website.

For all of you who cannot seem to crank the card to its full capacity, this is the answer.

Other Thoughts: Awesome product: durable, powerful, flashy.

Just don't trust Asus's website for the graphics drivers as they are not the best: it took me an hour of arguing with their representative to come to the conclusion they were wrong and I wasn't insane.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my other review

Pros: Great laptop, like it said on my other review.

Cons: LCD Monitor took a dump, thought it was the video card. But it not I plug in another monitor and it looks fine, So it the LCD.

Other Thoughts: Well I will have to turn in back in for repair, Great right before my vacation. Hard to say why LCD took a dump, closed lid good, like I done many time before and then never a problem until now. Great.... When it rains it pours. I downgrade the egg, due to LCD failure within 6 month. My old Dell I had for 5 years and it ran great. But need some thing faster. So I went with this one. Still ASUS rocks and things break. But right before my vacation, come on....

3 out of 5 eggsvideo card burned out due to a fan failure.

Pros: This laptop is a beast if you are gaming! The hard drive space is above and beyond what I was looking for in that department. The ati video card in this rig is exceptionally fast in most games. There are a few games that you have to turn down anti-aliasing a little. All other details maxed. The intel core i7 720qm is a very fast mobile processor and handled all but the most cpu intensive tasks quite well.

Cons: After 4.5 months, I had to take in for warranty service, I did not buy from Newegg. The system fan(s) on the left side failed and the 5870 quickly burned out. Both the 720qm and the HD5870 have a large thermal output. However, I don't think there ever would have been a problem if the fan never failed.

Other Thoughts: Good rig, until it fails.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: I purchased this from a big box store (only 6GB memory, 500GB single drive, no bluetooth) , but love it

It replaced my ASUS G50V (spilled water on the keyboard , so now it's fubared, waiting on a replacement keyboard from China)

Thing is lightning fast! SC2 on ultra is no problem, and Crysis on High is fine.

Cons: The keyboard takes some getting used to. If you don't type hard while typing fast, it can miss characters (I type over 130wpm)

The touchpad buttons are stiff

Other Thoughts: Ordered a bluetooth module (completely disassembled the laptop, but the cable i have for my G50V bluetooth adapter is different).

Ordered an SSD hdd and an additional 2GB memory card from newegg today. Windows 7 experience rating was 7.2 other than the 5.9 hdd, w/an SSD driv I expect it to increase alot.

I've been a fan of ASUS products since the late 90s (only knew about their motherboards then) when I built PCs for a living

5 out of 5 eggsAsus G73

Pros: The G73 is simply amazing. It has power and looks yet still can maintain silence and cool temperatures for a reasonable price. I picked mine up for $1,577 a little over a week ago and have no regrets. A laptop from another company of equal performance would cost over $2k. It never gets hot to the touch like so many other laptops. The size of the screen and the 1920x1080 resolution makes me feel like I am at the imax. The keyboard is lit and allows easy typing at night. The chiclet keyboard allows for smooth typing and does not feel cramped. It has been able to handle everything I do on it wonderfully. I've mostly been playing BFBC2 on it lately. The turbo mode works properly and the 5870m works like charm as well.

Cons: Well the only thing I could find wrong with it is that it won't handle the newer catalyst drivers. The guy at xoticpc told me not to try to update catalyst drivers any more becasue they mess everything up.

Other Thoughts: I think everyone in the world needs one of these.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Stunning

Pros: Honestly, I could not be happier with this buy. So far it has worked perfectly and exceded all my expectations. I love the design of the laptop (I am a bit of an F117 fanatic.) The price was absolutely great in comparison to the quality you get out of this machine. The screen is beautiful and the perfect size for watching movies and playing games, it just goes goes that extra mile for display. The backlit keyboard is absolutely amazing. I like to keep my room relatively dark with a little overhead lamp, the backlit keyboard is perfect for this (not to mention you have the adjustable brightness). The cooling system for this laptop is absolutely amazing, to the point where it is kind of scary feeling a cool keyboard underneath my hands while I game. It has played everything I have thrown on it on the highest qualities. It has everything I desire in a laptop. The weight in my opinion is actually perfect for the power you get with this desktop replacement.

Cons: First of all, I was scared when I first recieved the packaging from UPS seeing both of my boxes all banged up had me worried about the status of my computer investment. Luckily for me, everything seems to be working fine. (perhaps this could be a problem for some of the hardware failures that I have seen?) The other major con which I can easily deal with is the fact that it is so large, it was a pain to find a nice case for it. It fits it perfectly. The battery could be considered an issue, but honestly if you are going to ask for a powerful computer, you need to be prepared to give up battery life. A blue-ray disk player would have also been nice considering the price. Please notice that none of these cons directly affect the performance of this machine.

Other Thoughts: I would really like to see UPS treat such a expensive item with more care with shipping. But all in all, that can be solved with a simple change of shipping preferences. I am extremely happy with this buy though and I am getting non-stop compliments from everyone who sees the system. This is an absolutely amazing deal. NOTE: The Slappa Hardbody Pro 17" case fits this beast perfectly, while it may be a bit expensive, it is of great quality and I know it protects this investment amazingly.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent High End Gaming Laptop

Pros: I've been very impressed thus far with my G73 laptop, the thing is a beast and will tear through any game you throw at it. Unlike most gaming laptops this one actually runs cool thanks to the cooling system Asus uses. I used the laptop for nearly three days straight at a LAN party and it was great, people really seem to like it too (back-lit keyboard on a laptop is an eye catcher). The screen is very impressive, 1920x1080 on a 17" screen looks amazing. I bought this item open box from newegg and was surprised everything was included, even the the warranty card was there. Oh, the design of the laptop itself is great, it does indeed remind me of a stealth fighter.

Cons: Neweggs packaging for this laptop was horrible, I know its an open box item but still at least do more then wrap the stock box in a single piece of cardboard, all the corners of the box were smashed, I'm actually surprised it made it to me in one piece. As for the laptop, I wish it had more USB ports, 3 is not really enough for me, 5 would have been better and with the size of this thing there's really no excuse. I did run into a few video related issues, be sure to remove (or don't use) the GPU drivers that come with the laptop and download the latest from AMD, installing the latest video drivers fixed my problems.

1 out of 5 eggsCrashes with New Drivers

Pros: The cost and feature balance. Large screen.

Cons: The laptop has ran fine with stock settings. That is to say ATI drivers from the beginning of 2010. When i have tried to update the drivers the system becomes unstable, i.e. various color crash screens(red/green or grey), when watching videos/playing games.

Asus tech support has no solution to the problem, apart from revert to stock drivers. The person I talked to said that there was nothing in their database about the issue, which seems odd. Also as a side note the tech stated that he did not own an Asus computer (not a good sign?)

Other Thoughts: So if you are fine using old graphics drivers for what could be the life of your laptop this is fine.

Since this is a it is a gaming laptop I think that you would want to have up to date graphics drivers, so I would wait until the issue is resolved (although it is possible that the crashes that I am experiencing happen for a minority) and you could not experience these problems.
