1 out of 5 eggsDo they have a 1 year switch on this thing

Pros: Great screen

Cons: Seems like right at one year, this thing starts shutting off and unable to even boot! I noticed the warranty was exactly one year - now I am not sure if phenoms run hotter than their intel counterparts, but this thing sitting idle is running at 60(c) which, to me, is way too hot for idle and I suspect this is what is causing the random shutdowns and inability to boot!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: large screen

Cons: Had problems after 60 days and Asus's customer service is not great. Asus is supposedly rated well, but heaven knows why. My advice, don't by Asus.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy, but...

Pros: Dedicated 1GB Video was a plus at this price.

Cons: Pitiful battery life at less than an hour surfing the net or 40 min. with any kind of streaming video. Has anyone found larger capacity batteries for these?

Other Thoughts: I haven't encountered any of the other issues that others have commented on.

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice laptop for price

Pros: fast and great hardware. no problems as of yet. using this computer as my gaming PC at the moment and it is working nicely.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: came with windows 7 home. immediately over wrote with windows 7 ultimate. Not a fan of any of the windows home OS's. also not a fan of preinstalled junk-ware.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Great buy for anyone that wants a Laptop to play mid-high level games & great for work as well; as much as I like to play games on this laptop, it is my work computer. Processor is very smooth considering the triple core & the dedicated card does wonders. Great Buy.

Cons: No Cons at this point. I'm approximately 3 months in.

Other Thoughts: I've seen reviews saying there's static noises-not a big deal, it's nothing...it's simply the laptop starting up. Also the BLOATWARE that everyone mentions - suck it up. It doesn't take long to uninstall these programs.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: High quality screen, runs most games well, wireless & 3D acceleration work out of the box for most Linux distro installs.

Cons: Runs a little hot sometimes, but nothing too extreme. Also there's a hidden partition on the hard drive that eats up some storage space if you don't remove it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent mid-range computer

Pros: An excellent computer at reasonable cost for a mid-range product. Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500GB hard drive. Speakers work very well, after updating drivers for bios and audio. WEI ratings; CPU 6.2, RAM 7.2, GPU 5.0, 3D-GPU 6.1, HD 5.9. ASUS manufacturer 1 year global warranty. The 900 pixel vertical height is appreciated since most widescreen laptop monitors are too short. The Multi-Touch functionality for the touchpad is useful. Idle temperatures; CPU 70C, GPU 70C, HD 50C.

Cons: Glossy finish with fingerprints and glossy reflective screen creating blindspots that tires the eyes to view and can lead to a headache. Unfortunately, this is standard on most notebooks. My preference is for matte finish and screen, like most office workers, and this is difficult to find since the current trend is glossy. Technically, the computer is excellent.

Other Thoughts: Originally installed BIOS is v208, newer versions are available at the Asus support website.

I personally did not purchase this item but acted as a technical consultant and recommended this laptop to a friend. I updated the bios, drivers, and operating system, installed and configured user programs, and imaged the drive. Any future issues with this system such as a virus, corrupted system files, or damaged hard drive and all I have to do is purchase a new hard drive, copy the system image onto the drive, and install the new drive into the laptop. This is useful since my friend moved out of the area and I will not have an opportunity to personally fix the system. I will just ship the imaged drive and my friend will install the drive into the laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsRidiculously bad harddrive

Pros: Loved it to death until HDD died. Big screen, runs games well, fast boot once you get all the bloat off. Runs 2000 page PDF files like a dream.

Cons: Dim screen. Touch pad a bit of a pain.

Honestly regret buying it now because of the harddrive issues. Other than that though, great computer ...

Other Thoughts: Bought the computer at the end of August, harddrive dies first week of November. No damage done to the computer, completely babied and taken care of, never let it overheat. Just shoddy manufacturing, and considering I bought an ASUS to avoid just that, I am sincerely disappointed.

Also buy the extended warranty. If you just use ASUS' you have to pay for the shipping and who knows how long it will take to get back.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Nice Large Screen
Easy to use interface
Scratch resistant keyboard.
Sturdy keys
Good battery life while gaming.
Run's most games on medium graphics.
Excellent for work and WoW.
HDMI out looks fantastic on a decent TV.
Quick processing at all times, hard to bog down with heavy work loads.

EXCELLENT WARRANTY ( Trust me if you game your gonna use that warranty at some point see Cons.)

Cons: Hit or Miss wireless card.

Run's warm at an 70 degrees Celsius idle.
Run's between 80-95 degrees Celsius Gaming.

Core Temperature maxes at 100 degrees Celsius.
Easily overheats when sitting on uneven surfaces.
Cooling trays are a Must.

General Heat problem. ( It can keep a 1000Sqft room 80 degrees Fahrenheit on it's own.)

Poor cooling design. ( looks like They wanted to put the vents in all the wrong spots and a single fan to pull air through the entire system.)

Easily scratched gloss cover. ( I mean real easy just having it in a laptop bag can scratch it up.)

Audio controllers are unforgiving, will not cooperate with Adobe Audition.

Bloat-ware

Other Thoughts: This laptop would have been an amazing buy if it did not have such a issue with cooling, having to carry around a 17" cooling tray with your laptop is not fun, when it is necessary. Asus Tech support is ARABIC, they can not understand you nor you them.
