5 out of 5 eggsASUS is amazing

Pros: ASUS+AMD all i did was add high-end memory

Cons: bloat-ware low clock on the CPU

Other Thoughts: I emailed ASUS about making nice high end laptops with AMD to compete with XPS and other desktop replacements and i received a good prompt response, i am a huge AMD fan and ASUS won me years ago!

2 out of 5 eggsA strong dissapointment

Pros: Sleek, relatively slender, soft touch keyboard, great speeds (when it wants) and great picture quality.

Cons: I bought this thing back in December and within the last 7 months I've had to return this thing twice and now I'll struggle with my third time. First my speakers went out on me and then my hard drive had critical errors in it. When I sent in my computer for my hard drive I told them about my computer studdering during video card use after more than hour. They told me they fixed it but the first thing when I turned it on it did it again after an hour. Now I'm set to deploy in a month and Asus always takes so long I doubt that I will be able to get it returned in time. This was a big regretful buy seeing how on average it has a 2 month run time before having to be sent in. I've always trusted Asus in the past however, this purchase has really strayed me away from future Asus buys.

Other Thoughts: The lights on the side when in sleep mode will flash brightly and it is rather annoying. Asus also makes you pay for the packing to their repair shop through fedex which costs a good 20 bucks, plus they use the slowest means of shipping. Last repair this July took a month to get back to fedex plus the time it took to get to my house. Being in the military I need a laptop that I know will last longer than 2 months and so far it hasn't paid for itself. After shelling out the money for this thing for a deployment computer, I feel like I should have gotten something else for the same price, even it was a downgrade it would still have been worth it. Anyway, better luck next time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great Value for money ($750 USD).
CPU/Graphics.
Nice looking design.

Cons: LOTS of bloat! None of it useful.
Battery life not so great.
Took too long to create the 5 backup DVDs.
No Copy of Win 7.

Other Thoughts: Gave it 5 stars. Cons really just a nuisance really and not worth removing a full star. Got this for my wife, who uses it for video/picture editing, and it has worked beautifully. good little gaming system as well. SC2 plays quite nicely on this. Always bought HP laptops in past. Purchased ASUS boards in past, not laptops, but very impressed w/ this ASUS, and will definitely look to purchase this brand in future. Definitely recommend!

2 out of 5 eggsStarted off good...

Pros: Sleek, unique styling (looks like a chocolate/merlot carbon graphite color, wedge shape, not a trendy-for-the-moment/my-parents-bought-it-because-I-told-them-everyone-in-my-class-had-one Iclone)
great size
hinge almost too sturdy (one handed openings just pick up the whole unit)
good heat management so far
seems stout, no squeaks, rattles, clacks, like a car that pops your ears when the doors shut

Cons: Hours must be spent making 5 backup dvds.
Very deep power socket, shudder to think what will happen when a jerk snags the cord.
Memory module error, BSOD, occurs so fast I'm not able to get the error details

Other Thoughts: Started off well enough, in the 2 weeks I was waiting for my software package to arrive (not from newegg) I ran Empire and Napoleon Total War just under max settings. A couple of hiccups here and there while playing but I'd not really had time to clean the bloatware and fine tune the performance so I didn't think much of it (normally keep installs rather spartan, nothing running that I don't open manually), then a BSOD so fast I couldn't hardly read the code, much less write it down. Starts in safe mode ok, then dumps almost immediately under normal startup making diagnosis virtually impossible. Only programs installed after-factory were ETW, NTW, and NAV. All drivers and definitions up-to-date. Will be contacting ASUS for warranty work as I don't want to crack the case and void said warranty to inspect memory module for damage, how they handle incident will determine a future rating ( I realize that production lines make mistakes sometimes), for now I have to give it a 2.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: The the CPU & Graphic card combo is amazing for the price. I'm able to play sc2 on high settings. Solid mid lvl gaming system. I like the keyboard and the design is also a plus. Stays very cool and extremely quite. Downloading Dead Space 2 and cant wait. Got it when it was $779

Cons: Battery life isn't all that great. It will last about 3 hours in class taking notes. A lot of junk to get rid of on install but some programs are worth having.

Other Thoughts: I was amazed at what this laptop can do. Was a very good investment.

5 out of 5 eggsASUStounding

Pros: First of all, I got this when it was $200 off of the normal price, so I feel like I got pretty lucky.

This is a great laptop. It works excellent for anything I want to do on it, nice sized screen, looks clean, not an excess amount of shortcut buttons on the keyboard. It has plenty of power to run most games, I've only played Counter Strike Source on it so far, but it can get 100+ fps on recommended settings. Also the touchpad is very intuitive for web browsing and pdf viewing, but I turned off most of the weird commands in the touchpad control panel (like zooming, horizontal scrolling(it confused it with vertical scrolling often), rotation) since I would accidentally activate them and probably wouldn't ever want to use them.

I threw in a 64gb solid state drive right after I got this, I can't really comment on how fast it loads things/transfers files etc.

Multitasks like a boss

Cons: I have a few things to complain about, but the pros outweigh the cons so I still give this 5 eggs.

First, the battery life isn't out-of-this world but it's expected, I get about 2 hours out of a charge.

Secondly, the arrow keys are easy to confuse with other keys since they aren't separated from the rest of the keys very well, and the right arrow key is further away from the down key than the left arrow key.

Third, I'm used to the webcam from my old laptop which responds much faster than this one. It has a very mediocre webcam that has a large delay and the quality isn't the greatest.

Lastly, when I first turned this on with the stock hard drive there was so much bloatware that it bogged the speed down a significant amount. So make sure you take care of that if you buy this laptop

Other Thoughts: Pretty power light, it matches the lights on the side

2 out of 5 eggsWas excited

Pros: Quick start up, Responsive, Nice keyboard.

Cons: ati graphics card. Already RMAing the thing for service. Pixelation and poor graphic card performance. Keyboard is nice but a little oddly layed out. and feels slightly squishy. Too much bloatware

Other Thoughts: Good for the price, I just may have gotten a bad card.

5 out of 5 eggsStop crying

Pros: I don't see what everyone is complaining about - I have had none such errors that have been mentioned with this laptop. The network card really hasn't missed a beat, it stays at a nice ambient temperature even under stressed situations (MATLAB computing and modeling is mostly what I do). Great feel, great look, fast, lite, great bang for the buck with the hardware specs. Nice placement of USB ports and power cable. Good thermodynamics with the fan placement keeps it reasonable and comfortable to use over an extended period of time. The overall layout for that matter is sleek and comfortable. You cant go wrong.

Cons: The battery life is annoying (2.5 hours max, aka useless). I have had a BSOD problem a few times throughout the duration of my ownership so far. It was a typical Driver IRQL tcp error which basically is usually always a driver error. Updated the WLAN and LAN drivers and that seemed to fix the problem. It also happened when I was own Skype - which was also related to the webcam driver not being updated for windows 7. Seems picky overall with driver compatibility, but with windows 7 ad infinitum I think microsoft is only going to make these issues worse as they update their code so it is to be expected. Bloatware is pretty dumb, did a format and repartitioned the drive to one partition with a fresh copy of windows 7 64 bit ultimate - as I've stated I installed only pertinant ASUS drivers for internal hardware to fix some compatibility problems.

Other Thoughts: Im an engineering student and I'd say that this thing will definetly suit my purposes without a doubt. I was looking for the graphical power to do what I need to do (mainly biocomputational applications with a lot of graphical rendering involved). The numpad is fine also, its a matter of muscle memory like everything else - no problems. When it comes back in stock definetly hit it up (I did however notice the change in price - I got it for 750.00 so you might want to wait a bit until they come back in stock as they might lower the price once again to try and sell in bulk.

4 out of 5 eggsSmart Notebook, Smart You

Pros: - $750
- Deceptively light. Looks like a standard sized laptop, feels light as a feather.
- Sleek look. The thing is sexy. With this thing, girls will want to sit next to you in the library. Well, maybe not. I also like the rubber/matte style of the area where you rest your palms. No paint wear or sticky plastic to worry about in years' time.
- 5730. A pretty good card overall, and much better than other laptop GPU's you'll find in this price range. I keep my WoW on 'good' settings with ultra visibility and high environment detail. Won't dip past 30fps in busy Orgrimmar, 60fps flying around. Not sure how the other reviewer got it to default on 'ultra' settings.
- This baby stays pretty cool. Can feel hot air when I put my fingers over the vent, but felt no heat anywhere on the laptop itself. This is without using my laptop cooler (although it is winter). I was planning on getting a primo cooler, but finding my simple Antec is working just fine for now.

Cons: - Bloatware, plenty of it.
- Weird partitions (80 gigs OS.. why?)
- No copy of Windows 7. You'll be prompted to burn a backup upon booting, an annoying 5 dvd process for sure, especially since we aren't notified of this prior to purchase (Newegg, if possible please send me a copy of Windows 7 and I'll just use the provided serial #).

Other Thoughts: Sometimes I catch myself marveling at the slickness of this laptop. It just looks that good.

As a previous reviewer said, 8 gigs of ram really does make this laptop sing! I recommend the upgrade for gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good gaming laptop!!!

Pros: I bought this laptop while it was 750USD, and it came with free shipping. Plays StarCraft 2 on high settings, 'nuff said.
Im extremely happy with the performance of this laptop and hopefully ill be able to report back when i've used this for a couple weeks.

Cons: All of this useless software, really the only thing I kept was the face recognition log in, which is awesome. Seriously it came with alot of unwanted app's took most of the night to uninstall and clean up left over files. Con - Too much bloatware.

Other Thoughts: Great gaming laptop for price. Listen to the other user reviews they've said everything else.
