5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this computer in July 2010.

Had a bit of a rough start, but once I was able to fix all issues and it's worked like a charm since.

- Excellent battery life (average 5-9 hours depending on intensity of use)
- Very reliable. I have yet to experience any real issues with the hardware at all
- Keyboard! This is a totally crumb-free design. Nothing gets stuck under the keys.
- Looks pretty awesome

Cons: I had a couple issues at the beginning, and I'll explain how I fixed them

-WiFi card disabled intermittently - Solved by installing newest drivers DIRECTLY from Atheros. Newest Asus drivers DO NOT fix this problem. New Atheros drivers work perfectly however, and the WiFi is now totally stable.

- DVD drive disabled intermittently - Solved by running Asus BIOS update. Works perfectly.

- Nvidia Optimus - This is an issue with Nvidia. They have not been updating drivers for Optimus cards. Though they have released many updates for "Hybrid Cards" they all specify they will NOT work with Optimus technology.

Optimus problem isn't too bothersome, as it still works fine. Updated drivers commonly improve performance though, so it would be nice.

In reply to another reviewer, you are able to observe which card is running. There is a program Nvidia released called "Optimus State Viewer" or something to that effect.

Other Thoughts: Overclocking:

This laptop has built-in CPU overclocking called TURBO. I tried manually overclocking the processor, but could not quite reach the speeds Turbo attains.

I was able to overclock the GPU using Nvidia System Tools and got:
Graphics clock: 606 overclocked to 750
Memory: 667 overclocked to 800
Shader: 1468 overclocked to 1700

Overall, I am very happy with this laptop. At times I wish I had one with a faster processor, but that would cost battery life. Nothing in it has failed, or given me a problem I wasn't able to easily fix.

If this laptop has the specs you want, get it. It is well designed, and very dependable.

4 out of 5 eggsGood computer, but not without its flaws.

Pros: I bought this computer about 4 months ago, I purchased it for around 600$, which was a very good deal for this computer, however, even though I like a lot about it, I would not spend the price Newegg is asking for.

With that said, I'll start my review.
1- Battery Life- Tis computer has very good battery life, I use it on full power, with brightness turned all the way up and still get about 5 1/2 hours on it. I have gotten up to 7 using the battery conservatively (brightness down, battery saving mode)

2. Software- Asus includes software to manage the power settings on the laptop, which is very useful. They also include software to boost you cpu speeds up by 33%, which can give it a nice boost when gaming or using other taxing programs.

3. Optimus- This makes this computer able to do some light gaming, but nothing serious. I would look elsewhere if you want that.

4. Keyboard/Mousepad- Both of these work wonderfully on this laptop, very easy to use.

Computer runs well.

Cons: Optimus- Yes this is still a new thing to laptops, and it has many flaws. Sometimes the graphics won't kick in, and there is no physical way of telling which GFX card is running, you just have to assume. There aren't many customization options for the nVidia card, which might drive some people like me crazy.

WiFi- When it works, it is fast, able to pick up connection easy. But sometimes it will just turn off by itself, very frustrating. Other people have this same problem.

Bloatware- Lots of it, some of it has some good uses though.

Blue Screens- This computer has these more than it should, I've read up on this and many think it is the Optimus driver screwing up. Computer runs great in between these hiccups though.

Other Thoughts: This is a VERY good computer for the 600 I paid for it, however, I think it is not worth 850$, wait for it to go on sale, if it ever does. You won't regret it. :)

2 out of 5 eggsWiFi problems

Pros: Slim, Light, Good battery life, keyboard feels great, fast boot up, I play Left4Dead 2 on lowest settings.

Cons: WiFi, don't really know when the NVIDIA graphics kick in, playing Left4Dead 2 on highest settings crashes the computer.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy this computer from Newegg but I have bought products from Newegg and wanted to give a review here. I bought the ASUS UL80JT from Best Buy and have been using it for 4 months now. The major problem I have with this computer is that the WiFi keeps turning off randomly on its own. I would be watching a youtube video and then it would stop for a little while; it would start again but the WiFi indicator light would be off. I would put the computer in sleep mode and then wake it and the WiFi indicator at the bottom right of the windows desktop would show I am not connected. So in other words I would need to reboot my computer every time WiFi dropped off; even thought the internet still worked after WiFi dropped it was slow. Search google for ASUS UL80 WiFi problems you will see I'm not the only one. Also Best Buy has stop selling this computer as far as I can see. Other than this the computer is awesome.

3 out of 5 eggsHigh Pitch Whine

Pros: Good Price / Feature ratio

Cons: Began making a very high pitched noise coming from the motherboard area. This lasted until I rebooted it. Its not making this sound now. If it comes back though, this will be an RMA. Very annoying.
