1 out of 5 eggsPoor Product Support From Asus

Pros: The computer came with facial recognition to secure starting the computer, but didn't seem to recognize me after a few days and I removed it. Otherwise, seems to perform well.

Cons: On first using the computer, you get a message, about "chameleon engine out of service" every time you start up the "new" computer laptop. Upon doing research on the internet and emailing the problem to Asus, they say reinstall the "Splendid Utility" item. They give you a process you go through to do this. I went through this process at least 5 times, and couldn't get it to reinstall. Finally had to solve the problem by removing the "Splendid Utility" application alltogther. No longer get the message, but don't have Asus's supposedly improved graphic enhancement. Repeated attempts to contact Asus failed with no response. Checked with the BBB, and found there is an alert on this company on the BBB website, regarding increased complaints. I'm now in the process of filing a complaint with the BBB, since Asus does not respond.

Other Thoughts: Note this product is no longer available on Newegg

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: for about the first month and a half this computer worked propoerly

Cons: everything else. DO NOT BUY a laptop from this company, both newegg and asus. asus only does repair on laptops and newegg refuses to refund the none functioning product which they sell. they only give the laptop one month to be returned, well any laptop will work for longer then one month. now im s.o.l. here writing this on a different computer because this laptop doesnt work and both companies refuse to accept responsibility for their broken product.

Other Thoughts: im never buying from either of these companies again and strongly suggest you do not buy from them either.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Solid Laptop

Pros: Very satisfying texture and build. They keyboard is just perfect to type on, chicklet style and perfect response. Optimus is nice and powerful enough for light gaming. CPU keeps up with everything thrown at it.

Cons: Battery life is on the short side, coming in at just under 3hrs usually with normal use. Not too bad if you don't mind charging and recharges very quickly (usually under an hour).

Other Thoughts: This laptop has a very good build quality and ample performance. I purchased it for my wife and she is completely satisfied with it. I highly recommend it for the user who wants mid-sized screen, strong case, and slightly above middle of the road performance hardware.

Gave it five eggs because, to me, this is the best quality product in this product range. Get the top quality of what you pay for.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Purchase

Pros: Very nice. Boots fairly quickly, looks nice. Somewhat powerful GPU, certainly enough for light or even medium gaming. I5-460M is a good laptop processor at this price.

Touchpad is responsive, and multi-fingered gestures work well.

Full keyboard with numpad is nice, though there are issues with it, addressed later.

Great purchase, gets an egg off for a few things wrong though.

Cons: Bloatware. So much I haven't removed yet, and I can't be sure what is actually required and which is bloatware. Its honestly too much and Asus could definitely lay off on it a bit. This is the main reason I took off an egg, it's becoming a pain to remove all this bloatware.

With the addition of the numpad some of the button get shrunk. Notably right shift and the numpad 0 button. Not a huge issue for me, but a left handed person might find fault with the smaller shift button.

Battery life isn't great (~2-3 hours,) but not worth taking off a whole egg for.

Hard drive is partitioned into two sections. Not sure if this is to preserve OS data but it was annoying having to transfer large files over to the data partition once I realized that the partition had run out of room. Would much rather have a 1partition setup on a laptop like this.

Other Thoughts: Newegg did fantastic. Order was shipped quickly, though I wish that UPS updated their tracking info earlier. Nothing was damaged, and everything was there. Love ordering from this site.

5 out of 5 eggsBest blend of options & quality for price point

Pros: Fast CPU, plenty of memory and HD space.
Discreet graphics card (not the best out there, but most laptops at this price don't even have the option and it blows integrated graphics away for gaming and videos).
Full keyboard and surprisingly good touchpad.
Asus quality and stellar looks, people notice this laptop.

Cons: Bloat ware (nothing worth keeping)
No included recovery disk (Asus does give the option for you to create your own disks, as well as a recovery partition on the HDD).
5400 rpm HDD (Windows 7 is still much faster than Vista or XP would be).
Battery life is 2 hours average.

Other Thoughts: Everything was up to date as far as firmware and BIOS. No problems of any kind. The recovery disks take a chunk of time to create so find other projects to do while doing that, and for those who remove the bloat ware use care, the touch pad drivers are listed under an unrelated, non-indicative name. This laptop has been a very good purchase, I couldn't be more pleased with the performance. A friend bought a Mac Book around the same time and spent $300 more, and got less options and hardware.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks mostly

Pros: Large screen, good processor, Good full keyboard, Good trackpad, Very quiet effective cooling.

Cons: Limited ports, weak Nvidia graphics, one pixel in the monitor died.

Other Thoughts: It is great to have this processing power and a good amount of ram. The keyboard has a very nice feeling and works well. My biggest problem is that Nvidia Optimus does not support Linux. It turns out Nvidia has no plans of supporting it at all, but if you are happy using Windows 7, it will be mostly good. The battery lasts from 2 to 3 hours under little load. When it is doing a lot of work it may only last 45 minutes on battery, but that is not very common. The webcam is not very high quality, but I don't need a great webcam. It takes a while to start up, so I just use hibernate more often.

3 out of 5 eggsLukewarm

Pros: Very fast, solid computer. Not TOO much bloatware.

Cons: Drivers were out of date when I received the computer. The trackpad enable/disable key (Fn+F9) would not work. Took a while figuring that one out. There is a red dot in the LCD (one of the crystals must be out). I contacted NewEgg, they will replace the computer but it has to be in the original box. Well I don't have the $2 box anymore and thus can't return the $800 computer. Now I have to contact ASUS directly... this should be fun.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer for the price

Pros: The computer looks great and just cruises along with every program. Love Win 7 64, about 156 times better than Vista. Now, my wife doesn't do gaming, so I can't speak to the video card, but videos from our camera and movies look great. I haven't had many laptops, but the battery is great for us. If you want to use this pc to surf the internet or use microsoft office for a project, you can get 2-2:30 hours of run time. Also, much more sleek than my ASUS M50SV 15.6" I have, which has taken a beating from my babies and just keeps on going.

Cons: Came with a bad hard drive and Win 7 wouldn’t load. I tried reloading Win 7 from the recovery partition to no avail. Had to RMA it.

Other Thoughts: Most people would take an egg away for the above point, and I have read many reviews about people hating on ASUS customer support, so I was worried to say the least. My experience was quite the opposite. I called ASUS support on Saturday. I described the problem and the guy on the phone told me he was going to send me shipping labels, all that good stuff, and I just needed to get it shipped. I was checking my email while I was talking with him and received all the information. Printed it all out and just filled in my info about the problem and the computer info. Sent the thing out at no charge. Got the PC back on Wednesday and it’s been just humming ever since. The only inconvenience was the hold time to talk to someone, but it was a weekend, I was on my cell phone, didn't cost anything and just put it on speaker phone. Love ASUS.

3 out of 5 eggsCool

Pros: Great Computer

Cons: Some problems with graphics. Had similar problem with other graphics switch computers. Mostly problems with some programs (solidworks)
SPEAKER positioning sucks. Its pointed "down" and not great for sound when you sit in front of it.
Bloatware! like mad...

Other Thoughts: just started using it... pretty sure there will be more problems...

5 out of 5 eggsA Respond to "What A Pain"

Pros: My system still up and running flawlessly.
I had update my Display driver to the newest.
I had update my system bios to the newest.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: The freezing problem and device manager not detecting can be solve by
(1) going directly to the ASUS manufacturer's website and update the system's BIOS to the New BIOS, and
(2) download the newest display driver for Invidia + Intel. Everything should resolve after after those things are done.
