5 out of 5 eggsNot a let down!

Pros: I love the 17.3" monitor! It's has a great feel, but still getting used to this keyboard.. The 740q is running my games with max res settings.

Cons: The vent out of the left side blows some pretty hot air when I run two monitors, but I have a Laptop cooling system enroute.

Other Thoughts: I have been running duel monitors and playing Everquest 2 at high quality and still no lag! If you know your MMO's Everquest 2 is a huge game and will test your PC with the new Shader 3.0 engine that they launched! If I run just one account then I can run extreme with minimal lag. I also upgraded to 8GB of RAM, so this was an even bigger difference, for me =)

5 out of 5 eggsGood deal

Pros: Powerful, fast, loud, graphically superior. WONDERFUL port arrangement- USB in the back is really nice. Screen is awesome, plugs into my receiver at home for HD and nice surround sound.

Cons: Battery life is bad- but I went in knowing this and I pretty much keep it plugged in all the time- even when in the car. I could have sworn it came with a Blu-Ray player, but I must have read the tech specs wrong. Had to buy a special case for it to fit into. DVD drawer has a raised button, so it's easy to accidentally open.

Other Thoughts: This laptop really is an awesome buy. I bought 12Gb G-Skill RAM and put it in before I turned the laptop on. It is not super fast to boot, or even load programs- but you can't slow this thing down. The other day I was running StarCraft 2 on ultra settings, and alt-tabbed out to run a virus scan and open a web browser to an animated website. When I went back to the game, no noticable loss of performance, which was seamless. It's a monster.
What I am running now open on the desktop (not background processes):
Internet Explorer 2 tabs
Google Chrome 7 tabs
Micrososft Lync 2010 Client
I am installing a game from CD
One shared network folder
Two local C: folders
Dropbox console
VirtualBox
Guest OS Fedora 14
Adobe Photoshop x64
uTorrent
Micrososft Word

And each program responds like it is the only one open. I love it.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding laptop ! ! !

Pros: Asus never disappointed its customers, and this is no exception. Excellent laptop with vivid bright LED screen which is difference you can see compared to other laptops. I bought this mainly for music and gaming, and N73 is great for both.

Cons: Keyboard is not the best but can be easily accommodated.
One of the multimedia buttons on the side is not functioning but I never used them anyway.

Other Thoughts: Easily one of the best laptops you can find under $1k. I used over 6 different laptops in the past, and this laptop is by far my favorite ! ! !

5 out of 5 eggsupgradable and sleek

Pros: I'm loving the quick corei7. It easily beats out my core 2 quad thats clocked at 3ghz. This laptop easily beats out my pc setup that i put together a year and a half ago. Ram is really fast. DVD burner is pretty fast. The usb 3.0 slot is great since i have a flashdrive that can finally be put to its full potential! i have heard people complaining about the keyboard but i honestly dont have any complaints about it. Im a light typer so maybe that might be it. I can see the slight cave in but i cant feel it. I love the media keys on the left side of the keyboard. The sound is AMAZING! The touchpad has 3 touchpoints allowed which is kool. my last laptop didnt have that feature. I love the screen size and 1600x900 ratio. works great for graphic design. easily reachable power management widget is a plus. plays some games decently well. runs quiet and has a screen off function which i love! came with a trial of starcraft 2 which is pretty cool. best buy ive had in years.

Cons: keyboard shows the dipping but its ok because you can hardly see it. bad battery life but who expects a quadcore laptop with a 17.3inch screen to last more than 2hours?

Other Thoughts: Some people say it might be hard finding a case for this thing. i got one on here for about 50, free shipping. targus laptop backpack. works great! this laptop is a great buy and is easily upgradeable with all the extra slots it has. extra hd slot and 2 extra memory slots. its even better that its 200$ off! which basically sealed the deal for me :)

4 out of 5 eggspowerful & futureproof machine

Pros: this machine is large so it will take up some real estate. even before powering up you will see that this thing is very well made. the brushed aluminum top is gorgeous. the LED screen is vivid and bright. the media buttons are very useful and the preloaded win 7 64 bit optimizes the speed. with 3 RAM slots and dual HDD support, this machine is ready for future upgrading. the external audio is the big feature, B&O really did their magic and the sound is loud, bright and distortion free with a good kick (10w vs std 3w). e-SATA connection and USB 3.0 ensure fast transfers when external devices catch up. the bottom and top stay cool due to efficient porting of hot air through the side but this port does get hot. smart cable management on the side, with minimal connectors on the back keep your desk clean. the bottom is very clean and smooth which means also very comfortable. ASUS warranty is best in class.

Cons: the display is not HD although this will output HD through the HDMI. the keyboard does exhibit some higher than normal flex and the keys have thin gaps so the feel is not as good as std keyboards. the keyboard is not lit which would have been nice but at the expense of battery life. which is probably the biggest negative, battery life is just over 2 hours. not great for a laptop but since this is not ultra portable it may not be an issue for you. it does require removal of the keyboard to access the RAM and HDD but this only took 5 mins. and who needs to do this on a regular basis anyways? finding a laptop bag that this fits into can be a challenge.

Other Thoughts: this laptop is not for the timid. its big, can be loud and has a presence. power and upgradability set this unit apart from the rest of the market. if the keyboard and battery life are not issues for you then this classy unit will be the one you will be proud to show off at your next party.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast laptop once I put in additional 8gb of crucial memory from newegg. Only thing slowing this down is the hard drive. Only thing lacking is the hard drive is the slowest part of this machine now. I use this for my business as well as gaming. So far a great laptop.

Cons: Placement of memory, having to darn near take the whole thing apart to change out the two sticks of memory in the bottom is very irritating. You can get to one of the 3 slots if you take off the keyboard though. The keyboard is a bit squishy. I am going to prop it up inside with some foam, so easy fix.

Other Thoughts: **Newegg needs to ship this laptop in a plain box. I have never seen a laptop sent in it's original box, until now. Montana weather is brutal, so having the extra shipping protection is a must. Especially when ups leaves stuff on your snow covered doorsteps.

4 out of 5 eggsPhenomenal Laptop... but...

Pros: Fit and finish... real metal casing on the top, pretty lightweight for a 17.3" screen. Sound quality is phenomenal, very easy to open the lid, extremely fast processor, little switch to physically "cover" the webcam, also a real WiFi switch, great graphics and plenty of expansion... however...

Cons: It's really difficult to get to the expansion bays (for hard drives, memory and wifi). You need to remove the keyboard and then 6 screws before the lower panel pops off. There is a DIMM slot under the keyboard (it does support 12GB of DDR3) and an extra bay for a hard drive under the machine (the "door" is only removable by removing the keyboard, there's 5 "tabs" at the top, just push them down w/ a jewelers screwdriver - then the ribbon cable and 6 screws and then back panel will pop off - very inconvenient!). Hard drive brackets are also impossible to find, I ended up making my own. It also has a REALLY glossy screen and the black levels seem a little lacking thus far. Also, the right arrow key is where most people are used to the "0" key being on the keypad, kind of annoying if you're used to the keypad.

Other Thoughts: I actually have been setting one of these up for a co-worker, so I don't personally own it, but I've been working with it for the past few days. Windows rating was 5.9 (ironically the 128GB OCZ SSD I installed was the lowest scoring component). The keyboard feels a little flimsy, mainly because it's "floating" in the middle... some people have placed foam rubber under it to firm it up, I suppose that would work. Other than a few little nit picks this is a great desktop replacement for the price...
