1 out of 5 eggsPower pin broke twice

Pros: Decent performance and reasonable cost.

Cons: Power pin broke twice and requires sending the laptop to ASUS to repair. I was assured it would be fixed with a newly designed power connector but it was the exact same design. Now I have to mail it in again. Poorly designed, going to avoid ASUS from now on.

4 out of 5 eggsBest gaming laptop I've seen so far...

Pros: Fast processor and fast graphics chip handle most modern games at full eye candy settings. Runs cool for all the power that's inside, not noticeably noisy with the fans either. Blu-Ray and 3D technology are just icing on the cake.

Cons: Not the best screen, viewing angle needs to be straight on. Viewing with 3D glasses becomes worse as they block light, making it difficult to view screen in bright rooms; 3D works best in a dark enviornment, maybe that's why the have the backlit keyboard?

Nvidia 3D Vision still seems to be a work in progress. Most games have to have some detail minimized or shadows disabled to render properly.

If you're right handed, you will notice some cable clutter where your mouse would be with the AC adapter plug, ethernet jack, and headphone jack occupying the right side. Also, having the optical drive on the left side is also awkward to operate if you're right handed. I doubt these would be complaints if you're left handed though.

No RAID option if you happen to install a second hard drive.

Other Thoughts: For all the goodies that come with the unit, including 3D glasses, a gaming mouse, and backpack, it's hard to turn this down. But things could be improved on. I'm spoiled having had a MacBook screen to look at previously. This one doesn't compare at all, seems to have poor viewing angles and brightness could have been bumped up to help with the 3D. Backlit keyboard is nice, but not as bright as the MacBook either. Keyboard seems a little "flexable", which may bother some peope, but I'm okay with it. It apparently holds two hard drives (haven't cracked it open yet), but you'll need to order the additonal caddy from Asus, it does not come with the laptop. Although case is plastic, I feel the "matte" finish is as easily scratchable as the aluminum on a MacBook, and may show greasy fingerprints even more so.

3 out of 5 eggsASUS love it with issues

Pros: Fantastic Tech support.

Cons: Not a specific review for this model, but some points to ponder. I'm on my second ASUS laptop and will buy a third when the time is right. As the other reviewer pointed out, all the ports on the front sides of the laptop really get in the way. Once you've plugged in a mouse, external hard drive, lan cable etc, the laptop gets very crowded. If this is a true desktop replacement then make sure that wire configuration will work for you.

Other Thoughts: I set mine up finally away from my desk, with a wireless key board and mouse, and an external HDMI monitor... Looks and works great, except for games. Then it overheats and shuts down. But tech support is on it.

1 out of 5 eggsIF IT SAYS ASUS STAY AWAY

Coming Soon!

Pros: Keyboard light up.

Cons: I purchased a G73J in February of 2010. The laptop has been in for repair 5 times. The last RMA was at Asus for 2 and 1/2 months. From Nov 30th of 2010 until Feb 11 2011. I booted it up today 2/16 to play Dead Space 2. 1 minute in GRAY SCREEN OF DEATH. Cant run 3dmark it freezez cant run a 3d fish screensaver it goes to a black screen. The laptop has had the video card replaced 3 times and the motherboard has been replaced. They replaced the LCD, blaming it for the gray screen of death only to replace it with an LCD with a dead pixel. I'm sending the unit in for its 6th RMA. ASUS has had this laptop 7 of the past 12 months in for repair. PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY !!!

Other Thoughts: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 120hz screen
backlit keyboard
great cooling
gtx 460m gpu is one of the best you can get for a 15 inch laptop
good cpu
excellent choice to allow buyers to start out with 6 gigs of ram rather than 4

Cons: the power cable and ethernet cable are placed on the right side partially blocking mouse movement.

Other Thoughts: This version of the G53 is so much better than the other simply because of the 120hz screen. The other version comes with 1920x1080, which for some reason the majority of people seem to think that's a good thing. The 1366x768 is more than enough for only a 15 inch monitor.

I know I did not mention the 3d aspects of this pc at all and that's because it's just a novelty and I didn't buy it for that reason.
