1 out of 5 eggsPoor Service

Pros: none

Cons: Service terrible - fan needed to be replaced after 5 weeks of use. ASUS sent us a postage paid label, which sounded great until we found it took a week to get to them.

In spite of having an RMA # we can never access updates on their on-line system. That means I have to call and give every piece of information (name, phone number, e-mail and address - as well as RMA) just to find out that a part has been on order. We are going on having this out of our home for a month now, and all I can learn is that a part is on order.

Other Thoughts: We have another ASUS notebook and tablet, as they were a brand that I previously thought was high quality. Having a mechanical issue within the first few weeks is bad enough, but their repair service is absolutely the worst.

I will not purchase this brand again.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus U3

Pros: You can cut and paste, and there are HDMI to DisplayPort adapters, and USB Ethernet adapters (although everywhere I've traveled to has had Wi-Fi, or I can just use my AirPort Express to make my own wifi network. In addition to those points, you are incorrect in saying that the max storage capacity is 128GB, when in fact, the max is 256GB, although there are 3rd party solutions to increase that to 512GB.I bought a replacement Asus U31 Battery, it's very practical and high quality(http://www.global-laptop-batteries.com/asus-laptop-battery/Asus-U31-Battery.html).

Cons: I can just use my AirPort Express to make my own wifi network. In addition to those points, you are incorrect in saying that the max storage capacity is 128GB, when in fact, the max is 256GB, although there are 3rd party solutions to increase that to 512GB.

1 out of 5 eggsquality sucks

Pros: NONE!

Cons: THE QUALITY OF THIS LAPTOP SUCKS!, I wrote a lot about this laptop after using a week. but after 2 weeks, the keyboard platform started to act weirdly! there was major flex in the entire keyboard. And the keyboard started to come off!!! from the system. --- finally its broken and I sent the machine back to Newegg itself!
You might like Asus in the first look, but after using it for 2-4 weeks, you will start to see things falling/coming off from the laptop, mainly due to its bad quality of manufacturing and due to lack of quality check

My advice: Stay away from Asus computer no matter what it offers in terms of value for money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Lightweight
Powerful
Good Battery Life
RAM upgradable to 8GB

Cons: Somewhat hard to backup the OEM System Image when the notebook doesn't have an internal DVD drive. Was also slightly difficult to remove the back plate to switch out the RAM.
Minor bloat, I didn't feel it impacted performance too much.

Other Thoughts: So far, so good. Would be nice for the AI Recovery DVD backup tool to also allow you to back up the contents of the hidden partition to an external hard drive; that way you wouldn't have to find the hidden 21GB recovery partition to do it yourself. I'll write another review after a month or so if anything has changed.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value for money

Pros: good processing
good gpu
great keyboard
great touchpad
minimal status lighting
No fancy lights
good webcam

Cons: sometimes, the asus wireless console doesn't work
the blue status light on power adapter is extremely bright-- i had to tape an opaque paper on to it!
Lot of unwanted software! even i found the Super Hybrid Engine useless because when you switch between power modes, the system restarts itself! lot of time waste
the glossy plastic is smudgy, but its nothing bad
there is this grinding noise from the hard drive that you notice when sitting in a quiet room-- nothing bad, but it annoys me!

Other Thoughts: this is a great computer. i am planning to upgrade the hdd to ssd (probably a mail in rebate Kingston one).
want to see it even faster!
A great laptop

4 out of 5 eggsSmall and Powerful - no restore disks

Pros: The U31 has bright and clear screen, good solid feeling keyboard, and nice pad. The bluetooth works well with multiple devices simultaneously. The system is very fast for this size laptop. The disk drive and ram are easily accessible through an access door on the bottom, the ram is upgradable to 8GB by replacing the two 2GB modules with 4GB modules.

Cons: There is no restore disk supplied. 100 GB of the hard drive is filled with restore data. It gives you the option to make your own but this takes many hours.

The system comes with crapware which takes quite a bit of time to remove.

The hard drive space is very cramped and a larger hard drive like the 1TB Western Digital is too thick to fit and replace the 500 GB Seagate installed in the system.

Other Thoughts: I would have happily paid a bit more for restore disks so the full hard drive space would be usable, or I could easily replace the drive with a larger capacity model in the future without buying another copy of windows. The disk shown in the pictures only contains drivers if you want to do a clean install with clean version of windows.

The hard drive has two usable partitions about 100 GB for C and 300 GB for D.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Powerful laptop for its "weight class." I use this laptop much like I used my netbook before it, and have been pleasantly surprised. It is easy to carry around, and has the benefit of not driving me crazy with how slow it is (which is what my netbook did).

The battery life is good if you are just taking notes in class and lightly browsing the web (I get between 8-10 hrs on a charge on a regular basis, but I have tweaked my power settings for a bit more battery life).

Performance is good. In case you don't know, the ASUS super hybrid engine actually overclocks the processor when it is in "High Performance" mode (2.8GHz), and the 415M is powerful enough to play most games out there. For reference, it plays Starcraft 2 on all low settings, but with the terrain on medium.

The build quality is good (get lots of comments about it actually), and the temperatures are very good at all times. It doesn't seem to heat up near as much as the U36JC sounds like it does (max temp ~ 75c).

Cons: Construction quality is good, but not the best. There is a bit of flex in the keyboard (you'll notice it if you are looking for it, but in general use I don't even think about it). And also, the bottom panel doesn't feel as solid as the top of the laptop does, but by no means does it feel "flimsy".

Also... the glossy screen.... *sigh. Maybe they'll learn someday that we don't generally like Glossy screens on portable laptops.

Bloatware... also annoying, but that was expected.

Also, when I got my laptop the spacebar didn't function correctly all of the time (didn't regester a space when I pressed it on the front right hand corner). I fixed it myself rather than sending it in to get fixed though.

Other Thoughts: This is perhaps one of the only 13inch laptops that you can actually travel with (good battery life and light weight), and also play games on ( FYI, the 415M is about 30% faster than the 310M in 3dmark06 [roughly 4200 points vs the 310's 3100]) that is available in the US.

I wish this laptop was magnesium like the U36JC, but I went with the U31 because it was cheaper, better at gaming, and is less prone to temperature problems.
