1 out of 5 eggsHorrible graphics issue

Pros: Excellent....when it works

Cons: Google this "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered". I started having issues within the first 6 months. I sent it to Asus 3 times, they replaced the graphis board one of the times, waisted my time the other two times. Finally they upgraded me to G53SW-A1, I've sent it to them 4 times. Replaced graphics board, graphics board again, graphics board and motherboard, now they want to replace the graphics board again. Now I am 6 months past the 2 year warranty and they keep trying to charge me for a problem they couldn't fix on 2 different notebooks, over a 2 year period.

Other Thoughts: Ridiculous customer support,

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop Faulty power cord plugin

Pros: Overall a good computer, I was surprised that even tho it was an older PC i was playing brand new 2012 games on it just fine. Would have to tweak some of the settings a bit lower but not very low.

Never ran too hot, the fans in the back work great.

Good design on it and doesn't look too over the top or anything.

Cons: HEAVY, more like a semi-mobile desktop!

I purchased this laptop 27FEB2011 and OCT 2012 I found that the power cord plug in on the motherboard was broken off and stuck into the end of my actual power cord plug in. Thus no charge.

If you google "g53jw power pin" you will see multiple problems for people with the power pin falling out.

Other Thoughts: This is a widespread problem for this laptop (g53jw) so at this point you are most likely better off going with one of the newer versions

1 out of 5 eggsBad Laptop

Pros: It looks pretty

Cons: Power pins break, gets as hot as my car engine (not literally, but you get the idea), ASUS RMA service sucks (had to pay shipping twice...)

Other Thoughts: Buy something else.

4 out of 5 eggsBest laptop I've owned

Pros: -Fast processing
-Runs every game I install on it
-Multitasks very well
-Very efficient cooling

Cons: Not really cons since I knew about these, but worth noting:
-Heavy
-Less than average battery life

Other Thoughts: This laptop is great. After going through two different Dell laptops that were lemons, I needed a new laptop.I decided it was worth dropping the money for a well-built laptop with the most bang-for-your-buck, and you definitely get what you pay for. It's a fast laptop that stays cool no matter how much gaming you do on it and is very reliable. The only thing you have to do is remove the bloatware it comes with (just format Windows and install the drivers). I did have the issue others are talking about with the AC pin coming out, but it's only happened once a while ago. I definitely recommend this laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsHad to be repaired over 7 times!

Pros: Its a very capable laptop computer. It has the spec and power that you won't find in other 15 inch laptops on the market.

Cons: It's power pin broke off about 3 times requiring it to be sent in for repairs.

I have also experienced GPU failure about 3 times as well. The mother board has been replaced a few times as it had these issues addressed.

Each time I sent it in for repairs, the turn around time is over a week.
At one time I when I had it returned after getting its GPU replaced after a failure, it was broken out of the box, and on the same day I had it returned, I had to send it out to be fixed again.

It seems like there is a fatal engineering problem with this computer where its internal hardware fails far too often.

Most of the time the hardware failures were experienced under normal, stationary usage, this means it breaks while it just sits on the desk.

Other Thoughts: I really want to love this computer, but it has disappointed me too much for me to be happy while using it. I feel like I can't treat it like a laptop and keep it in one place and hope nothing on it breaks again.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective product

Pros: It has inspired me to buy an ipad.

Cons: The power jack is defective. There are threads everywhere about this. I pulled my hard drive out to get my data and the thing is going into the garbage. I will not deal with techies to resolve this. This is humiliating. My wife is laughing at me. I put a lot of research into this purchase.
I thought buying a high end product would alleviate these issues. Boy was I wrong.

Asus should have issued a recall. I would have backed up my data.

3 out of 5 eggsPower pin breaks

Pros: Fast and powerful and was a great deal for the item at the time. Overall works really well. Windows rates it a 5.9 because of the stock ram and 7200rpm HDD, but you could easily upgrade either for not too much to get the machine to 7.1. :)

Cons: Owned less than year still and the power pin broke a 2nd time now. Time to send in for warranty repair again. *sigh*

Bulky. The size of a 17" notebook at least. Get a big bag.

Cons sort of outweigh the pros unless you know how to solder. :)
