4 out of 5 eggsPortable, Lightweight Laptop

Pros: Very lightweight and thin. If you are looking for a portable laptop, this one works great. The screen size is big enough to be able to work efficiently but small enough to slip under your arm or in a backpack. The battery management software that ASUS provides is great. With a flick of a key you can set the laptop into different modes to maximize battery life or performance. It modifies processor speed (along with other variables) to squeeze every watt of power it can. It's REALLY nice that the battery management is done through a button located above the keyboard rather than having to right click through menus.

Cons: The battery life doesn't last as long as advertised. I was reading in reviews along with their specs that it would last 9 hours and on max battery life it last about 7.5. It's still VERY good considering how lightweight the laptop is, but it was a little disappointing.

It comes with a lot of bloatware as well. Had to take some time to uninstall. Not many laptops come stripped but it's still a con.

Other Thoughts: The laptop has no CD or DVD drive. I didn't realize it when I ordered. I didn't put as a con because the spec states it has no drive. I have a desktop so you can easily network a CD drive from the desktop to the laptop to install any CD or DVD programs.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop

Pros: Light, HDMI, USB 3.0 (for backups)

Cons: External drive required, minor con

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this laptop, it does far more than I expected it would. No over heating issues.

5 out of 5 eggsBest of both worlds

Pros: Slim and light, for sure. Amazing screen. Fast. Ignore the reports of heat, as it generates as much heat as expected. Very light, and great for travel. Feels great and looks great. Runs the OS and everything else wonderfully. Excellent battery life. Perfect solution to the 13.3" size. Optical drive is not missed for a second. All the ports needed too.

Cons: A bit too much bloatware, but easy enough to remove/ignore. The touchpad is a bit weird/sensitive, but nothing out of the ordinary. Too many stickers for my taste, but can be removed without problem to keep things clean.

Other Thoughts: The USB 3.0 slot is an amazing addition. HDMI output is wonderful. Great laptop with everything included. Great buy, for sure.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Light, great looking, sleek, solid build, great battery life yet it still has a Core i5 at the heart of it. Hard to ask for much more.

Cons: A little too much bloatware but nothing less than an hour or so of trimming can't help. Also the image I received the hot keys for volume/power mode switching did not work. This was resolved very easily by uninstalling the ATK software and downloading the newest version from Asus' website.

Other Thoughts: Yes, the laptop can get a little warm but given its size and the processor its hard to argue that it gets warmer than one might expect. The only time I can say its been uncomfortable is when running in entertainment/high performance mode for an extended period of time. Daily usage however I don't notice it getting warm unless I leave it in high performance mode. Really I have no need to do that anyway since the i5 in battery saving mode is more than enough power for everyday tasks.

I flipped back and forth between getting this or a netbook as my last netbook had died and my old laptop was 3 years old but still going strong (Also an Asus). Very glad I went with the U36JC, the only regret I have is that I didn't get it sooner.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: I was wrong about the number of Dimm slots. It only has two (I was depending on siw.exe and the info was incorrect), other than that, it has been performing pretty well.

Cons: It only has two Dimm slots

Other Thoughts: I am probably going to buy another one for my wife

4 out of 5 eggsRuns Very Hot

Pros: Slim, lightweight - the keyboard is the best one I have used from Asus. The USB 3.0 with my USB 3.0 external hard drive averages a transfer rate of 90 MB a second. It has 4 memory slots, has the potential of installing up to 16 GB of memory.

Cons: Runs very hot. Entirely too much bloatware, ended up re-imaging the machine because of it. I expected more from the video card. Did I mention it runs very hot

Other Thoughts: I travel a lot, so lightweight is a necessity. so, 17-20+ inch laptops just weigh too much and netbooks just don't have enough performance. This is a perfect balance between performance and weight, well except the barbequing of my crotch while using it at the airport. I would recommend it

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: Excellent at heat dissipation. Metal and study plastic body, very rigid. Fast as hell for the price. Really long battery life.

Cons: Bloatware.

Other Thoughts: I just did a fresh OS install to get rid of the bloatware. I get between 8-10 hours of internet fooling around, or 4-5 hours of video watching off of a single battery's worth of charge.

Fantastic build quality. Screen is nice as well, better than I was expecting. My housemate has a brand new macbook air and I get better battery life than he does.

4 out of 5 eggsNice light laptop

Pros: Light, Thin, Good Battery, Metal top, Light Gaming,

Cons: plastic bottom, bloatware, no backlight keyboard

Other Thoughts: I really like this laptop, I've even gotten compliments for how this machine look from Mac fans.
It's fast enough to do any productivity apps you need, and will play many recent games, I play TFT2 and Shadowlands so far.
I bought it from a different store but should have bought it here.
