3 out of 5 eggsWorked fine.......then started freezing up

Pros: This machine was great starting out. Ran World of Warcraft flawlessly and everything instantly would pop up on the desktop in almost no time at all. Blu-ray drive is great, the Nvidia 540m looks awesome, and the overclocking is nice.

Cons: For some reason after a couple weeks, this machine started freezing up and lagging extremely hard out of nowhere even though it started out great. all of the drivers are up to date, idk whats wrong with it

Other Thoughts: Im fairly disappointed with the performance after a month. At first the price was great and it ran flawlessly, now i wish I paid a lot less with the performance I'm getting.

5 out of 5 eggsGood laptop

Pros: Quad core CPU is very powerful, RAM allows for quite a bit of expansion. Battery life is decent for such a large laptop. Blu-ray drive plays movies fine.

Cons: None that I have discovered.

Other Thoughts: This laptop was well worth the cost.

4 out of 5 eggsQuad Core i7 Laptop - 4 usb ports?

Pros: Great CPU, nice screen - 1920x1080, resolution is really good
Some bloatware easily removed, nothing to complain about there.
Machine works properly as it should with no technical problems, except for the usb issue I've found with a Serato SL-1 only working on the usb3 port, no other technical problems.

Cons: Doesn't give 1920x1080 out via VGA - once you hook up an external monitor to the VGA port, resolution is greatly reduced on both external and laptop display. Have not tried the HDMI port yet.
There is something strange about the usb configuration on the machine - (for the dj's out there): Serato will only work on the USB 3 port, (I have the latest software and drivers, etc, etc) - So if you're thinking external usb devices, check the other reviews out there
AC cable for power supply is short (but replaceable)compared to other laptops I've owned.

Other Thoughts: Would have liked the usb ports (esp on the right side of the machine) to be up, closer to the monitor, so that you can use a mouse without knocking into the usb adapters.
Overall, a decent machine, but fell short of my expectations (for the price)

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful design,stunning performance

Pros: This is my third asus, a G53 was stolen and own a netbook and so amazed by this brand. The design outdoes an apple and the performance is stunning. The display is amazing, and the sound is unbelievable(BANG AND OLUFSEN!!!). This machine has outdone my expectation. Eagerly waiting for Asus to dethrone Apple in the following years. Will never buy anything else.

Cons: May be the keyboard which takes a little bit to get used to, otherwise, what cons!!

Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best vendor I have ever encountered.

5 out of 5 eggsFrom Macbook to This!

Pros: Very silent laptop, especially as it's a "hidden" power house! Excellent contrast on screen and has ample connections to interface with home office. I also use it a lot on the go and it puts me right at ease wherever I am! I'm very surprised with the battery life which easily clocks in at > 5.5 hours (sound off, low contrast), and > 6 hours with added wifi off.

Cons: - Bloatware (just uninstall or do fresh Windows installation).
- Keyboad takes a little getting used to (due to added number pad on right). The trick is to place your hands slightly on the left and < 1min, you'll be back in the keyboard saddle!

Other Thoughts: I replaced the hard drive with an OCZ Vertex 3 256gb and upgraded the ram to 8gb. This laptop is gold and I intend to keep it for quite a while!

Easily one of the best manufacturers (ASUS!) out there comparable to Apple (better in many ways actually) quality and respect towards the art of technology and the customer!

Also Newegg rocks! Shipped same day after ordering late afternoon!!

5 out of 5 eggsLooking to game? Really really worth it.

Pros: This review is coming from the perspective of a PC gamer. Keep that in mind.

6gb of RAM, Upgradable to 12gb - Trust me, 6gb is enough for modern gaming. Upgrading to 12gb may come in handy for the future though :)

Next Gen Intel Core i7 - A luxury to have, also, provides gaming performance above the i5 processors.

750GB HDD - Feels like an endless amount of space @-@

Nvidia GeForce GT 540M 1GB of Dedicated VRAM - This makes all the gaming possible, and i am truly impressed with its power. My laptop before this had an Integrated Graphics chip. I could barely run Team Fortress 2. Now, i can run Crysis 2 on high (not ultra) at about 30 FPS. All source games (games made by Valve) run flawlessly up to 100+ FPS

An indicator light to tell you what GPU its using.

Speaker is nice sounding and stylish.

This thing is a SOLID piece. I mean it, it is build tough, no part of it feels cheap. Feels powerful actually.

Cons: Bloatware. Prepare to spend about an hour removing that stuff.

Bloatware. Seriously.

Did i mention bloatware?

Battery isnt "great", but thats probably because i use it for gaming. I still get 2 hours out of it though :P

Design Flaw: Charge Port is in the back! Watch out, if your not careful, it could end up breaking.

Nvidia Optimus - This is a good and bad thing. Good because it saves power ... but the con here is that some games have issues detecting the Nvidia GPU over the Intel GPU. Source games have an issue where, while they do use the Nvidia GPU, the Options menu detects the Intel GPU and doesnt let you select some of the highest settings. I have only seen this in Source games, but there are reports of problems with Optimus in other games as well.

System Freezes, Possibly a problem with Optimus: I sometimes experience a system lockup. My whole display freezes and i am forced to shut down the PC via the power button. This only happens SOMETIMES when exiting from

Other Thoughts: Overall: This is a fantastic laptop, for everyday tasks and gaming. Whatever you're doing, this laptop should last you many good years. I am looking forward to it. It is actually quite a challenge to stress this machine, and is prepared for the years to come. Nvidia Optimus can be a bit irritating at times, but the issues it presents are usually very minor, and you learn to cope with it.

This laptop. Just...this laptop. Its amazing, truly. I am now an ASUS fan, and it feels good ;)

5 out of 5 eggsQuality Product

Pros: After using this laptop for a few months, I can honestly say I'm thoroughly pleased with my purchase. Intel's i7 combined with 6GB of DDR3 RAM and a massive 750GB hard drive provide the user with a powerhouse of a computer, and with nVidia's GeForce GT540M graphics card, it lets you enjoy a menagerie of video games.

Coming from a gamer point of view, you won't be disappointed. This laptop will handle just about any game you can throw at it from Assassin's Creed to Skyrim without sacrificing much quality. The most you'll need to lower is particles and shadows. Otherwise, you can enjoy a theatrical gaming experience.

While under intensive use, this laptop stays quite cool and responsive. A rock-solid investment.

Cons: -Keyboard doesn't have a backlight despite there being space on the Function key line for controls
-Touchpad slightly invades space to rest left hand on the case
-Included driver cd reboots the computer a lot until about halfway through total progress
-Battery life can be horrible while playing a fullscreen game(1 to 2 hours on a full charge) depending on settings
-Not so much a con, more of a personal thing; the power cable plug is straight instead of an L-shape

Other Thoughts: As I said before, I am thoroughly pleased with this laptop. I have never owned such a smoothly-operating machine before, and am astonished at the speed difference. I actually have to really work to tax the processor and video card for once! I certainly hope this review is found helpful by those who view this laptop and consider purchasing it.
