2 out of 5 eggsPoor Wireless Connection & Faulty DVD±R/RW

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: The ASUS laptop has a terrible time connecting to the internet. One minute, it is connecting... The other minute, it is not connecting! In addition, after I burned a CD on the ASUS laptop and popped it into the CD player, it refuses to play the CD. I used my other laptop to do the above things, and it turns out that it was able to do everything that the ASUS cannot. Highly disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for Graphic Design and Casual Gaming

Pros: This laptop is very very lightweight, has a pretty standard battery life, and handles the tasks I use it for quite well. I use it for my school work, which involves a lot of 3D rendering programs and basic design/art programs. It is also an acceptable laptop for gaming. I don't worry too much about playing max settings when I play, but it handles itself well with newer games and (as one would hope) beautifully with older ones.

The bootup is quite fast, even after owning it for 8-9 months, and it very rarely makes audible whirring noises.
I bought this computer while I was on a budget, and it's been able to do exactly as I was expecting.

Cons: The hard drive is a bit small, but for the price I was willing to take it (externals are quite cheap anyway.).

The keys are also a hassle to take on and off, as my dog managed to remove the minus (-) key on the numpad and I ended up abandoning hope for putting it back on.

It would also be nice if the hard drive were a solid state, but it's something that I'll look into the next time I need to purchase a laptop.

The video card does give me some concern, as Intel really isn't the best out there. So far it's been able to handle what I've thrown at it, but I do firmly believe it'll be that that will be the cause for me buying a new computer down the line.

Other Thoughts: I bought this computer on a budget, and it's worked for what I've needed. It's a pretty standard buy now, and when something does become too aged or if a piece quits working, I'll probably buy a new laptop rather than bother with replacing pieces within this one.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat - if you don't need power!

Pros: Great budget laptop all around. Truly.

Cons: Power plug went after about 7 months.

Other Thoughts: Apparently the power plug is a pretty common issue. Of course, this laptop is no longer available so my review is of no concern to anyone as they can't buy this model new anyway.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the power plug went out on you. Looks like you will have to send the unit in for repair to have us fix your issue as it's still under the warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsGood laptop

Pros: Was purchased slightly under 400$, can;t beat it for the price, ran well out of the box, beautiful screen, 6gb of ram are felt. Overall good laptop.

Cons: Can you stop making 5400 rpm hard drives they are slow, only con, it will be replaced.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your purchase. The reason why they use such a low RPM hard drive is the price.

I will definitely bring this up to my supervisor to see it they will make the change to a faster hard drive speed. However new hard drives that are being used are SSD.

2 out of 5 eggswirerless poor

Pros: somewehat quick...needs to be cleaned up with too many unnnecessary programs

Cons: After only 5 monbths this laptop wont connect to my wireless without my manually doing it...very tedious...I had faith in /Asus..what a disappointment

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the wireless. You may need to send the unit in for service.

Here is a link below where you can update the driver and bios to see if that will resolve your issue.
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=X54C

You can also right click the antenna on the lower right hand side and right click on the network and under the connection tab make sure the the first box is checked.

You can also search services.msc and scroll all the way to the bottom and make sure WLAN AutoConfig is on. Right click and change status to start if it's not started.

2 out of 5 eggsAsus Notebook

Pros: Decent notebook for the money, when it works.

Cons: I had to send this notebook in for service within six months of buying it. I sent it directly back to Asus after it would not turn on and the power supply seemed to be working. Two week later it was returned in working order, but it was stated that no problem had been found. Now after another eight months the same problem has occurred AGAIN. Of course it is now out of warranty. I have to use this computer every day for my job and it is a huge inconvenience to be without it. I bought an Asus computer because of its reputation....This has been a big disappointment.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that no trouble was found. Can you please tell me what your serial number is and the previous RMA number issued. I will see what I can do to help you resolve your issue.

When did you purchase the unit. Do you still have a copy of the proof of purchase?

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price.

Pros: Got it when it was $350 and have had this laptop for 3 months now with no issues.. so far.

Cons: Battery doesn't last very long even on Energy Saver and just doing some web surfing.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a pretty solid machine for the price with the exception of the battery.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat LT

Pros: Very good for the price. It is tough to find a good LT under 350.00. CPU is good and great mem amount. Screen is very clear. Always like Asus.

Cons: Keys are a bit hollow, could use maybe one more USB.
But you have to lower on some things to make that price.

2 out of 5 eggsdisappointed by battery

Pros: 6gb processor is fast

Cons: no battery life

Other Thoughts: this otherwise great notebook is ruined by its battery life. Even at a lower power setting, the battery life is less than 4 hours, with only about 1.5 hrs when streaming video. I don't know if this is because of a bad battery or maybe you just get what you pay for but I would sincerely think twice before buying this to take on the go.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the battery life is pretty low. I was looking at the battery life of this notebook and shows the actual battery life runs for 3 hours and 42 minutes. If you believe your battery is defective you can have the battery replaced by sending it in for service.
