Redefine what mobile gaming means with the ASUS G74SX notebook.

Incorporating devastating power of Core i7 2670QM and GeForce GTX 560M, the G74SX powerhouse endows you with desktop-comparable gaming experience in a notebook form factor. Crystal clear 17.3" screen with Full HD resolution brings your entertainment to a new level of realism, complete with THX + EAX 5.0 3D gaming audio technology for lifelike acoustics. 5° incline keyboard and rubber-like palm rests help you breeze through extended operation with less fatigue. Cooling is also taken into serious consideration. An innovatively designed venting system silently cools the entire rig, so you can enjoy your gaming and multimedia with full peace of mind.

  • newegg Hail to the King! The world of portable gaming has a new reigning king. The G74SX is a performance notebook that imposes its will with the combined power of a second generation Intel Core i7 CPU and NVIDIA GTX 560M GPU with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM. A score of P2008 in 3DMark11 and P9180 in 3DMark Vantage takes over the reins as the fastest notebook in the land. Support for DirectX 11 ensures that you’ll not only have the fastest rig in town, but also the ability to play games as they were meant to be seen for a long time.
  • newegg Stealth and Strength Like its predecessor, the G74SX design was inspired by sharp polygonal shapes, but this time inspiration came from the US Navy’s Sea Shadow stealth ship and modern day aircraft carriers. Like the stealth ship, opponents will never know what hit ‘em, and like an aircraft carrier, the G74SX has the firepower to shock and awe the competition.
  • newegg True-to-life 3D Video & Audio The G74SX is great for gaming, but its hardware is serious business. It offers the best 3D ecosystem for PCs, offering 3D content creation and editing. It’s powered with NVIDIA 3D Vision, so games, photos and movies are all able to be enjoyed like never before. There’s also the ability to output the G74SX to a 3D TV, so you can enjoy 3D entertainment from the living room. Pair that up with THX + EAX 5.0 3D gaming audio technology, and together they make the G74SX not only a great gaming notebook, but also a hub for multimedia entertainment.
  • newegg Get Comfy Gaming is something to be enjoyed, so why not be more comfortable for extended gaming sessions? Fatigue will be a thing of the past, thanks to the G74SX’s 5° incline keyboard designed to provide a better ergonomic angle, as well as super comfortable rubber-like palm rests that’s easy on the palm and wrist. There’s also more space between the keyboard and number pad, so it more resembles a desktop keyboard.
  • newegg Blow It Out the Rear The harder you work, the more heat you generate. A computer is no different, and with the amount of power in the G74SX, some serious cooling is needed. A unique venting design pulls air from underneath the notebook, cooling the system down, then vents it through the rear, keeping hot air away from the user and reducing ambient noise for prolonged gaming.

4 out of 5 eggsQuite a monster!

Pros: Beautiful full HD display, good back-lit keyboard, great sound! Comes with little to no bloatware. Even though it is supposed to be refurbished, it looks brand new and the battery charges quickly and gives me almost 5 hours of battery life using Office apps, internet browsing and watching videos. Of course the battery life will be significantly less when gaming, but then again, that's what the power cable is for.

Cons: This thing is massive! I can see there being an issue finding cases and bags this will fit in, and it is pretty heavy at over 12 lbs with AC adapter. While I understood the weight and size issue from reading the description, the G74sx loses an egg for the problems in adding a 2nd HDD. To add one (either HDD or SDD) you have to also purchase a Hard Drive Board ( and a Hard drive FFC ( With shipping, it costs you over $50 without considering the cost of the second drive itself

2 out of 5 eggsGot a dud

Pros: Beautiful display, built like a tank, awesome specs, decent price

Cons: Inadequate quality assurance for a refurbished product. The battery did not charge when the laptop was plugged in, so I got to enjoy the machine for about an hour before I had to return it. The return shipping cost $25, but more importantly, I'm without the laptop for at least 2 weeks while it's shipped, the RMA is processed and a replacement is sent.

Other Thoughts: I'm still a big fan of refurbs, but I will think twice before I buy another ASUS refurb.

4 out of 5 eggsG74SX Not Bad At All... BUT

Pros: With powerful GTX 560m graphic card, you can pretty much play newest games on the market. I have no trouble to run Bad Company 2, MafiaII, Call of Duty series, Medal of Honor all series include warfighter ultra setting, AA off. I recently just beat the game. It's pretty good laptop to be honest only some game might not able to play on ultra setting.

I love the cooling system. It's the best design I have even seen in my life. After several hours gaming, I do not feel any, tiny heat on the keyboard at all. Well done!!

Cons: The issue for me is the keyboard and touch pad. The touch pad wasn't not responsive at all. It might be the software issue.

The screen jumping upside down while playing games even though I did not touch the pad. I guess it could be the touch pad issue. Some people who experienced the same issue suggests disable the touch pad, but I do not think this is the best solution at all.

Other Thoughts: I would still recommend this laptop to anyone who like gaming. IT's a nice laptop except for the touch pad issue !!.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent machine

Pros: Durable, fast, BIOS update was easy, touchpad was easy to reconfigure

Cons: Not recommended for new users or people who don't know how to read a manual

Other Thoughts: Don't let the weight get you down. It is heavy because it is heavy duty.

1 out of 5 eggsNever again

Pros: Good graphics, long battery life

Cons: Heavy, bios will not update, touch pad is...touchy...

Other Thoughts: Am sorely disappointed with this thing. It crashes and/or stop responding more than the HP it replaced. I set up my Logitech headset and it worked fine. Next time only the mic worked and but there was no sound. Careful with your palms when typing or you send the cursor somewhere else without your knowledge or if you hit the space bar off you go to another site or page. I hate this thing with a passion and am seriously thinking of donating it because I sure can't resell it and keep a straight face. However, it is a great machine for gaming, which is pretty much it's intended purpose. But that doesn't overshadow the fact that it sucks as a PC. With 12GB of RAM, I didn't expect the large number of "not responding" errors I've gotten and can't get over how absolutely slow this machine actually is. From day one, an error flashes that the bios version is incorrect, but it fails to update. Asus just tells me to keep trying to download it. So much more to tell... I done with it, it's gone
