Incredible Beauty

The ZENBOOK™ uses a precision-crafted design measuring only 0.1-inch (3mm) at the front and 0.35-inch (9mm) at the rear. The form features razor thin edges and a curved center section, which is both practical and attractive – while accommodating the powerful computing components within, this design also looks totally unique. It embodies beauty and strength in complete balance and harmony.

Incredible Responsiveness and Green

Exclusive ASUS Super Hybrid Engine II with instant on enables 2-second resume of the notebook from sleep, with up to two weeks of standby time with open files and other pending data kept safe in memory. Plus, automatic data backup when the battery reaches 5% charge further helps secure your work. ASUS ZENBOOK™ keeps energy saving front and center with a dedicated Battery Saving Mode, which conserves power whenever possible to increase battery life by as much as 25%. You're also always in the know when it comes to the battery thanks to ASUS PowerWiz, a utility that shows exactly how much charge is left per application – web browsing, movie watching. ASUS ZENBOOK™ combines power, efficiency, smooth usage and user empowerment, all on in one sleek package.

Incredible Speed

ASUS is proud to deliver the world's first ultrabook with SATA 6Gbps solid state storage, making for an amazingly smooth and fast computing experience. Combined, SSD storage and USB 3.0 create incredible speed of data transfer rates.

Another ASUS exclusive, SonicMaster technology was co-developed with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower® to deliver breathtaking, lifelike audio that far exceeds the limitations of conventional notebook PC sound performance. Deeper, more remarkable and wider in range, SonicMaster delivers four times the sound output of other ultrabooks without increasing the size or weight of the form factor.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Ultrabook - BUT...

Pros: Build Quality and Appearance is spectacular
Great performance
Fits in with the Mac air crowd
Price from newegg was unbeatable
Decent, not great battery

Cons: The keyboard is TERRIBLE I miss every other key. Not enough travel

The trackpad is twitchy and you will find yourself scrolling or zooming when you don't intend to

WIFI card is quirky, won't connect sometimes or takes 1-2 minutes after boot to connect. I re-installed clean Win7 and updated the drivers to the latest and that did not help. I will have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to "wake up" and connect sometimes.

4GB RAM Max is dissapointing

Other Thoughts: Solid machine, at $599 (big sale) it looks and feels FAR more expensive.

If I could do it again, I would get something else...too many quirks for my liking.

1 out of 5 eggsstarted off good

Pros: Works great when it's working

Cons: Completely unreliable. Might take a charge, might not. Sometimes when you plug in the charger the screen will just flash back and forth between ac and battery mode. thought it might be the charger but I can't tell because i haven't been able to find a new compatible charger.

Other Thoughts: It's just far too unreliable for me to give a recommendation for daily use. as a backup maybe. Next time I'll probably just spend the extra money for a brand that actually functions properly and has some sort of actual customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little machine

Pros: Very lightweight, all aluminum premium feel. The PC feels great, just do not forget to update all your drivers. The box, within the box, within the box was really nice for a present. My wife loves it.

Cons: None so far.

3 out of 5 eggsAsus Zen

Pros: Looks good

Cons: Still not powered up.

Other Thoughts: My computer arrived from Newegg. Opened to find I have a computer manufactured for the Italian market with Italian adapter and manuals. Newegg says I can return but they are sold out, so no replacement available. I call Asus and they offer return, but no replacement. Do you think they could send me another adapter? No, they are imbeciles. I said give me a discount on the U.S. adapter and I'll just buy, too much trouble.
This company is seriously wary.

4 out of 5 eggsasus zenbook

Pros: this is a very nice ultrabook. its everything it claims (almost) and i'm very happy with it.

Cons: the only issue im having is the battery life is not as strong as i had read about or expected. i'm only getting about 3 hours @ moderate to heavy use. since this model is older than the current ones available, the battery may simply have degraded from setting idle on the shelf for a year or more.

Other Thoughts: i'll check into a battery replacement with either newegg or asus, which ever is appropriate.

5 out of 5 eggsValue

Pros: This computer is one of the few that is physically built with a level of quality that can compete with Apples. I've been frustrated with the cheap construction of many laptops and I don't like Apples which has been difficult recently.

I've had enough laptops that I know what I want and the construction quality is far more important than whether it contains the newest and most advanced processor.

I've gotten Asus MBs in the past and have always been impressed with the quality of those products and this ultrabook only confirms that Asus is top quality in everything they put out.

- I like that there is almost no flex in the keyboard
- Amazing screen quality
- Battery life
- Nerdy bragging rights
- Looks hot, runs cool
- Newegg had a super special on this and for once, this really was a shell shocker...

Cons: Check out the reviews of this computer from a popular source that has the word "gadget" in it. I felt that it was very very accurate, both the pros and the cons.

It is true that the kb keys require a bit more strength to hit, it will not suit a soft typist well. However, the quality of build is nevertheless excellent, and this is merely a matter of getting used to it. I still skip a letter or two, but that is not a matter of being unresponsive, but a matter of needing to press harder.

The trackpad is not great, but for some reason, after 1 day of use I've stopped having problems with it and now it responds well enough that I have no issue with it.

It is not backlit, though there are a couple lights in certain areas. This was a common complaint. However, the silver keys and the bright screen make it such that backlit keys are not necessary. Typically, this is a deal breaker for me and I only purchased this computer because it was on a ridiculous deal, but as it turns out, I'm not bothered by it because the color contrast works out well.

The vertical viewing angle is very limited. Think of it like this: someone looking over your shoulder may have difficulty viewing the contents of the screen.... for better and for worse.

Other Thoughts: My girl has a macbook air and I purchased this because I wanted a non Apple version of it. I actually like mine a lot more for many reasons, but the air is still just a hint better built. However, the price chasm between the two products makes this the clear winner IMO.

I wasn't sure whether to give this a 4 or 5 egg, because it still falls short in some areas. But again, at the end of the day, the value is what makes this unbeatable.

3 out of 5 eggsMispackaged

Pros: Glorious in form and function!
Great aside from being mispackaged.

Cons: Received back-to-back mispackaged items; Both lacking the backlit keyboard.

Other Thoughts: I have contacted ASUS twice and they have verified this model is supposed to have the backlit keyboard. I am on my second RMA and NewEgg will be shipping me a 3rd as soon as this one is in the mail. Hopefully this time they will open the package as I requested to examine the item before shipping.

To the anonymous reviewer who has the same problem, you need to contact ASUS and NewEgg via chat to get this sorted out. They have both been very helpful and have paid return shipping for me both times.

3 out of 5 eggsSpecs were wrong

Pros: I bough this while it was advertised in the shell shocker deal. I like how it is light, does not feel cheap, has a long lasting battery, boots ups fast, is quiest and runs cool.

Cons: keyboard is not illuminated. "no backlit keyboard"
intel graphics HD 3000
No 1920x1080 resolution

Other Thoughts: The reason I decided to buy this ultrabook is because of the illuminated keyboard that I have seen on other zenbooks. After doing some reseach I was wrong. Newegg puts in the specs that the keybaords were illuminated. -1 egg. I have to RMA this and pay shipping fees -1 more egg.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I have only had it for a few days but its great. I already have a gaming compter and i needed a labtop for some basic internet and document editing. This labtop is perfect and with saving 400 bucks it was worth it.
1. Very fast
2. Looks GREAT
3. light weight
4. Battery life is long
5. Just great over all

Cons: When I did recive the labtop the smart pad on it was screwing up. Very easy driver fix. A lot of asus files not needed on it already. I removed them already but those two things are it.

2 out of 5 eggsThe wireless adapter is not working

Pros: The Weight and the style

Cons: Being an Asus user for many years, I didn't hesitate to order this new notebook. Everything seems fine except the wireless adapter is not working in spite different trials to solve this, wishing of being a minor issue.
When I contacted the ASUS online chat service, the only advice I got is to contact newegg for help!!!.
I don't have time to be wasted among you guys. If somebody can solve this problem that's fine OR I'm returning this notebook ASAP.
