4 out of 5 eggsReasonable

Pros: Starts up fast. No problems in normal operation. Does everything you'd expect it to.

Also, Windows 7! That's probably why you're here.

Cons: > The cooling fins are not made out of copper. I literally don't even. Are you serious? Is copper too expensive for you? Couldn't have like bumped up the price maybe 10 dollars or whatever for copper fins?

For those who don't know, copper is industry standard E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E (and I mean everywhere, from your water heater to the airplane you flew on) for cooling because it has basically the highest thermal conductivity of common materials. Expensive, eh, maybe. But it's standard for a reason. And what's the limiting factor for a common laptop's lifetime? That's right, heat. So I really don't even.

Don't tell me those silver fins are coated copper either. What could you possibly coat metal with at that thickness that has a higher thermal conductivity than copper? Those fins are like what 20 gauge? 18 gauge tops? You didn't coat that.

>Keyboard feels too shallow. Not entirely sure what it is, but after typing on this for an extended period of time (>30 min) the first joints on both index and middle fingers hurt like a minor gout attack. First time I've had this experience on a laptop.

>Touchpad is too shallow. Same idea as keyboard. Don't use it for an extended period of time. Might be fine if you're mainly a laptop user; I'm not.

>Keyboard is a little flimsy. You can see some of the other keys move when you press some of the middle keys. Minor details.

>Unified audio/mic port. Not sure if I just missed reading that on the specs when buying it or whatever, but I'm pointing it out here cause you might miss it too.

Other Thoughts: I needed a new laptop that had a pretty good size screen and NOT with Windows B8.

This laptop does serve those purposes. Half a year so far, no problems in operation.

2-3 points off for that not-copper heat piping.
0.25-0.5 points off for keyboard usage troubles.
Back to 4 because Windows 7 and the amount of useless stuff I had to uninstall was negligible.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Works Perfectly

Cons: none so far, but this time someone was home to accept the delivery and it was not left outside.

Other Thoughts: The previous review was meant for a different laptop which I am currently in the process of RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well and looks good too.

Pros: Windows 7 Pro
7200 rpm HDD
Not preloaded with third party junk. Some of the Asus stuff is actually useful.

All hookups (LAN, USB, HDMI, etc.) are on one side.
Wireless works very well and there is no annoying wireless button on the front edge.

Excellent performance for a system of this type.

Cons: Not really a con since it's not advertised as such but do be aware there is no embedded Bluetooth.

Other Thoughts: Extremely happy with this system. For someone needing a work at office / work at home system with a 17" widescreen. it's perfect.
