Pros: You can use it what its meant for (portable, do simple things like surf the web) but other than that there are no pros.

Cons: Everything

Other Thoughts: I've decided to use this for a while before making a review. When I first received the computer it was already malfunctioning. I could literally be 10ft from the modem and could not detect wifi whether at home, campus or anywhere. The screen was also popping out of the case. Sometimes the computer would randomly turn off and would occasionally lose all the work I've done for school. For $800 it could have been at least twice better. Perhaps I should have built my own for half the price. I've had to remain stuck with this faulty machinery since I cannot afford something that is at least decent. Calling the manufacturer is just too much of a hassle. I respect the make and I'm not here to bash them but just being honest.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

The laptop is suppose to do more than run basic and light computing applications. I certainly understand your concern regarding the stability issue of the laptop. Please to run System Restore then disable WINDOWS automatic update. Once this was done, install all recommended WINDOWS manually in the Control Panel, Windows Update before using the system. We recommend using a LAN connection to speed up the update process. If you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop is within range to an established wireless router and internet service is working properly. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150155643 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Cheap Sent for repair 2x

Pros: Inexpensive
Touch Screen

Cons: Everything else

Other Thoughts: I bought this from Costco in March 2013. May 2013 the connection in the hinge starts to go and I can only open the lid 1/3 of the way or hook it up to an external monitor. ASUS requires the customer to pay ($60 with Ins) to ship the laptop back to them even though it is THEIR product that is faulty. 10 days later I got it back. Worked fine for another 3 months. Now it's starting to have the same issue again.

Apart from that, the laptop just feels cheap. fit and finish is poor. CD rom drive works but does not fit cleanly in the side of the laptop. Touch pad has a bigger gap on one side that the other. It's just poorly made. My opinion is that ASUS cheaped out on design and components to have an inexpensive ULTRA Book. There is nothing ULTRA about it except ULTRA annoying.

I've contacted ASUS and Costco to see if someone will make it right. If ASUS takes care of the problem, I'll come back and update my review. As of now, I would not take this laptop for free if you need something dependable.

It's unfortunate because ASUS came highly recommended to me.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice so far

Pros: Fast, 'thinner', many ports, optical drive

Cons: Not what I would call an ultrabook, screen resolution, shiny screen

Other Thoughts: I've recommended this model for a couple of home/office users and have been impressed, esp for the price. The screen resolution wasn't a big deal for them, and some people like their shiny screens.

It is a good option for a user who needs flexibility (VGA / full-size HDMI, USB 3 / optical drive) for primarily one location.

Windows 8 + touch has been *great* so far. But I've also been spending 1/2 hour showing people how to navigate to what they are used to and how to switch from desktop ./ metro. And why they would want to.
