4 out of 5 eggsram died after 1 year

Pros: Fast. Handles games like Tera online without issue on max settings. I used to hate laptops because they are not as powerful as desktops but now this is all I use. Its heavy and feels more like a portable desktop. The instant on feature is nice.

Cons: 2 sticks of ram just died. been about 11 months. Computer would not post and could not get to bios. had to take out 1 component at a time to find it was the memory. Windows 8 blows. Not many computers come with windows 7 anymore though.

Other Thoughts: nice laptop if you don't travel with it much. I use it to work in our living-room or bedroom. The ram dying is annoying but otherwise Im happy with it. Took off the 1 egg for that.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop!

Pros: Fast! Love the SDD/HDD combo! This thing runs any game I've installed on Ultra without any issues. It's also great for media production - Adobe Creative Suite runs great on this machine - render times for video editing are significantly faster than any of my older machines. I am extremely pleased with this laptop!

Cons: Heavy and large - not easily portable - but i'm not running all over town with this thing.
Windows 8.1 took some getting used to - but that has nothing to do with the hardware.

Other Thoughts: This laptop has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance and functionality. I've purposely tried to push the limits (running multiple resource-heavy programs), and I haven't seen a significant drop in performance! Great buy!

5 out of 5 eggsA Monster

Pros: This computer has handled everything I've thrown at it. I bought it as a desktop replacement and it hasn't disappointed.

It runs very quite, extremely cool. With an Ivy Core and 16gb of RAM, I've had no problems.

The SSD for the operating system is just icing on the cake. I can put most of the software I need running at max speed on that, and everything else on the HDD.

Cons: Nothing significant. When I got it, the hard drive was partitioned in a weird way. There were four different sections. Only took a couple minutes to fix though.

Other Thoughts: It's a heavy laptop, and fairly wide. I had to buy a new backpack to carry it around in. I knew that when I purchased it though, so not a big deal.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat if it Works

Pros: -

Cons: This laptop came with a hardware/software compatibility issue regarding the screens refresh rate not being compatible with the NVIDIA driver software. The problem can be resolved for some and not others. If you do some research online you will see that this is a huge problem and many users are experiencing difficulty like I am.

The laptop is 13 days old and Newegg is not able to RMA the laptop because I do not have the darn box. I buy thousands of dollars worth of product from Newegg every year and tell all of my clients to purchase their products from Newegg as well.

I will no longer be purchasing from or recommending Newegg to my clients.

Other Thoughts: The laptop is a 5/5 stars when it works. Unfortunately I have had the screen issue and an issue with installing games.

I took 2 stars off for Newegg's poor support and 1 for the screen/game issue.

1 out of 5 eggsHardware OK/Windows 8 makes it unusable

Pros: Hardware seems good for the most part. Puts out less heat than I was expecting for an i7 CPU.

Cons: Touchpad frequently freezes for several seconds before becoming responsive again. Windows 8 renders this thing basically useless. No install media. Install files are on partitions on SSD which consumes significant percentage of your boot drive. OS will not get updates, even after refresh of OS. Looks like I will have to purchase new drive and Win7 license to make this useful, more than offsetting the discount. And the usual pre-installed crapware, of course, that comes with anything you don't build yourself.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother unless unless you plan to use this workstation class device like a tablet. Windows 8 makes it difficult to do anything meaningful.

5 out of 5 eggsWarcraft Gaming Machine

Pros: Love this Laptop. I needed a Gaming Machine for 25 man raids in World of Warcraft and this computer rocks it on the highest settings. Heat management has always been an issue on other machines but this computer has dual heat sinks and fans and pushed the heat out the back. Very needed after hours of pushing the graphics to the max and never lags when things get intense.

Cons: None so far. Comes with two partitions which leaves the SSD kind of small. I would have preferred the SSD be left as a single drive and the 750GB drive be split in two or not at all but this is minor.

Other Thoughts: For online gaming and heat management this computer is exactly what I was looking for and did a great job.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Fast, powerful, and quiet. This laptop has more then surpassed my needs for a desktop replacement, and gaming on the go.

Feels solid and well constructed, the materials used feel of high quality.

For the price I got $1,400 (on sale for the holidays) it was by far the best deal when compared to others in the price bracket. that said, I feel that this is still a worthy machine at its standard retail price with other competitively priced models.

Extremely fast machine, boots in seconds. and has great load times on all programs.

Brand Name, You're getting what you pay for, and although I have already had to call in customer support (details in other thoughts) It was fast, friendly and to the point.

Noise, I seriously have never heard this thing making noise of any kind, I really can't hear anything when it's cooling at maximum fan speed.

Cons: Ergonomics, I feel like this was an attempt at a Left handed laptop. (lefties, this would likely work well for you.)

The plug in ports power port, 2 USB, HDMI, VGA, and Ethernet ports are all located on the Right side of the machine and if you use a mouse and any of the ports on this side while mobile it may be an issue.

Weight, if you want the power, it comes at a cost. I don't see this as a major con but be warned if you're looking for something light and easily portable. This is not.

Windows 8, ONLY. the first thing I did after getting the laptop was attempt to put windows 7 on it. Unfortunately it's only Windows 8 certified. Thus no going back.

My personal situation made this a con, but swapping from the stock SSD/HDD in raid 1, to Raid 0 SSD's was an absolute pain because of Windows 8. however it is doable.

Other Thoughts: Customer support was fast and friendly and the only reason I had to call was about information about swapping the SDD/HDD.

Swapping the HDD and SSD, dose not void the warranty on this laptop. accessing the units internal components is done with only ONE screw.

4 out of 5 eggsa very solid notebook.

Pros: -Great graphics.
-Powerful.
-Very solid build.

Cons: I do not like where they placed the speakers. The sound up close is clearly coming from the left instead of being well balanced on the left and right.

also wish it was touch screen but that is just because it is windows 8.

other then that this baby is awesome.

Other Thoughts: not so sure if if came with ssd...

5 out of 5 eggsHad my doubts about Asus

Pros: Great laptop for gaming. FPS between 110-123 on ultra settings. This is my first Asus laptop. I've had very bad luck with ASUS main boards. Everyone I have owned was DOA. And their customer service is horrendous. It was a nightmare os issues getting my main boards replaced. But none the less this laptop is great. 5sec windows boot up time. I run multiple windows while gaming and I don't experience any lag issues or slowness.

Cons: 3rd gen cpu. I see no big difference in speeds compared to more recent gen cpus. This thing runs fast and smooth. I run my games on high settings. Even though I did purchase a cooler I haven't used it because this thing never ran hot on me so far at all. I also have a Toshiba Qosmio and I can only run games on med/low settings and it still gets hot and shuts off.

Other Thoughts: I've only owned this laptop for a week. I will do another review in another 6 months when I got some good use out of this thing. But so far. It's definitely worth the buy giving the price for what you get. I would recommend this laptop to anyone :)

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice for the price

Pros: Great price. 16GB ram. i7 processor. Good mobile video card. It is a beast of a laptop. I feel more like it is a portable desktop than a laptop which is good since I normally hate laptops due to lack of power. I didn't buy it for gaming but runs TERA at max settings pretty smoothly so I assume it will run most games well.

Cons: hate windows 8. MS is trying to convince the world to pay for them to develop a mobile platform - it just makes no sense on a laptop. please in the name of science give me back my start menu.

Second - Not a horrible issue but the SSD is split into 2 partitions (95GB and 121GB) and the 95GB partition is the C drive. You need to be careful not to install programs into the default location (C:\Program Files) as the C drive will run out of space. I didn't realize it till I had 2/3 of a very large game downloaded and had to start over completely. I know they probably do this so windows loads from the faster SSD drive.

Other Thoughts: excellent buy - got it on sale for ~1.3k. Plan to use it for software development and running servers. Needed the extra memory for experimenting with larger memory heaps on java based servers.
