Question 1

Does this computer come with downgrade rights to Windows 7, and if so, which version?  I'd really like this with Win 7 Pro 64 bit.  Thanks.

No downgrade rights.  It was the 64-bit version of Windows 8 and the key code is in the ROM as you probably know.  I installed Start Menu 8 to boot directly to the desktop with a start button and start menu.  Sorry, especially if you are looking for the built-in Windows server features in Windows 7 Pro.  There aren't too many reasonable options for 14" screens that aren't ultrabooks.  This is a good machine if you are looking for an old-fashioned 14" notebook form factor for not much $ with a quad core.

Where is the dent located? Are there pictures

HI Autumn! I'm unaware of where the dent is located, and there are no pictures to my knowledge.
I bought this laptop for my girlfriend and we were pleasantly surprised to find that there were no scratches OR dents at any location on the laptop. Corners, top, bottom, inside on the keyboard, and the screen were all clear of any form of damage. Hopefully if you decide to purchase this laptop (it takes some getting used to, the mouse pad is very big and has A LOT of features to the point that its frustrating and annoying until you get your tech-savvy kid/neighbor/friend to turn it off for you like we did).
   Other than windows 8 and the mouse pad, this laptop is very powerful (has the 21st most powerful processor in current laptops according to: cpubenchmark . net/laptop.html ).  21st may not seem very high, but trust me, the top ten came out within the last month or so. Its a VERY good processor. 8gp ram is plenty, 750hd is good. 14" is a little small for my tastes and it doesn't have the full keyboard (no number pad). So if you are willing to take the gamble on getting a dent or scratch or the hardware being damaged this laptop is a steal. It is worth every penny of its original price, so it being $100+ discounted for the dent is a great deal. Good luck!

Is it possible to still use "the mouse" with window 8 ?.

Yes, you can use the touchpad or an external mouse, just fine. I highly recommend that you download Classic Shell Menu when you get a Windows 8 laptop and you'll never even see the silly tiles.

Question 4

This laptop looks dated based upon the picture.....What type of protection does it have on it? Norton or something else? What type Software comes with it if any Microsoft Word, Excel?

My Q400A had Win 8 installed, which I have since upgraded to 8.1. Never would I use Norton or any other protection software in concert with Win Defender. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've seen no sign of viruses or malware. It came without any of the MS desktop apps, so I bought/installed Office Home & Business 2013. Hope you find a system that suits you.

Is it possible to send me detailed photos of the scratch and the dent? I am very interested in purchasing that laptop. Is there any wear on the keyboard or palm rest or touchpad?

Please read other replies before sending questions. I've already stated in other answers that My laptop (along with a few others' laptops) had NO damage whatsoever. And no, I will not be providing any pictures. My pictures would literally look the same as the pictures on the product except taken on a table instead of a white background.

Does this product come with a wlan interface or onboard speakers? Because it does not specify that.

What type of wlan firmware/interface is on this machine and how compatible is it with Debian linux?

Speakers are on board and are located to the front on the L & R of the touch pad; the wLan is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230. Do not know about compatibility with Linux.

I don't see why not. I m not using the mouse as the key pad is good enough. Also Asus has some customized mouse area option, similar to a tablet screen, so that is useful. It may take a few tries to use the option.

Does the Grade B Scratch and Dent mean only the external surface or actual damage to the screen?

Good question.  One I had before I purchased this ASUS "B Grade Scratch..." notebook.  So far I am totally satisfied with the notebook. There is no evidence of why they classified it as "B Grade..."  I would be unable to tell the difference between a new notebook and this notebook.   Best of luck.  I have always been satisfied with NewEgg if that is who your using for the purchase.

What is the WLAN interface of this device? Where can I find the details of it's firmware?

It shows up as Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) in Device Manager. It also has an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 which supports WiDi.

I removed Win 8 and installed Win 7 on it and finding the drivers was a total pain but (after a lot of searching) once installed it works fine.

what is scratched or dented on the unit. what is the location of the scratch(es) or dents?

There is no way to tell without buying.  It will not be the screen or the trackpad, or the lens of the webcam.  Being a B Grade there is not likely going to be any actual "dents."  Mine came in perfect condition, no scratches or dents whatsoever
