2 out of 5 eggsDarnit!

Pros: Good speed and long battery life.

Other Thoughts: Wow. This was a gift for my son. I researched so many laptops I was tired of looking. When I got this model I failed to recognize that touch screen was "available" and not included. It cost so much to correct my error that I just have to eat it. Windows 8 needs a touch screen!!
This is not the first time that I have purchased something from New Egg to find out that I do not receive what I expected. I have to be more careful or just stop shopping here!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. If you didn't received what you've ordered, I advice that you contact Newegg since this is a sales related issue. Should you need assistance on the laptop, please email me at and write down service# 3544459 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsBest value laptop

Pros: Great IPS Screen
Nice specs
Aluminium construction
Low Price

Cons: Slow Hard Drive
Bunch of bloatware pre-installed
Not an especially good wireless card
Screen doesn't have cover most of RGB color space
Bottom aluminium panel isn't flush with side
Has useless DVD drive

Other Thoughts: Given the price and quality of the screen this is probably the best multimedia laptop out there as long as you don't want to pay for a Mac Book Pro. Don't really understand why there is a DVD drive which is a complete waste of space that could be better used for a second hard drive. Would have been perfect if it came with a mSATA drive.

Soon as got it I installed a new SSD with a clean copy of Windows 8 and now is working as good as could be be. I may put in a new wireless card though in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsquestion about battery life?

Pros: excellent price for a decent gaming laptop

Cons: none so far nice system overall and affordable

Other Thoughts: quote'....On the LAPTOP Battery Test, which involves continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi, the N550JV's 4-cell, 4,000 mAh battery clocked just 4 hours and 52 minutes against the category average of 5 hours and 30 minutes. The ASUS lasted longer than the Satellite S55t (4:20), but lost to the ATIV Book 6 (5:26).
Still, for a laptop that will hardly be carried around much, the N550JV's battery life of almost 5 hours is good enough....'

that's from laptop magazine review.
I've found the typical life accurate on my system.'

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, not a touchscreen tho

Pros: It's all good, honestly, it's a great laptop all the way around. Comes with an external speaker and it's nice that we can plug it into the tv with the HDMI so easily. Good graphics card.

But it's not a touchscreen laptop. Just making sure everyone knows cause I didn't.

Cons: Thought it was a touchscreen because the model # is very similar to an almost identical asus laptop that comes with a touchscreen. I should have noticed this but I did not, which is completely my fault but I figured I'd put a review up so in case the touchscreen is a big deal for you, make sure you get the DB72. Cause this one is same laptop but without touch screen.

Other Thoughts: The non-touchscreen laptop is supposed to have a clearer, better looking screen and besides, touch technology isn't a big deal for my wife (whom I bought the laptop for) so we decided to keep the computer. And it's been great!

4 out of 5 eggsOverall very good

Pros: 1. Powerful CPU and decent GPU gt750m
2. Looks better than pics
3. Matte screen (personal preference)

Good performance and not a gaming laptop, yet capable to run most games at decent settings

Cons: 1. slow hard drive(hardly a con for the low price, but mine has a grinding sound, hardly audible but annoying when it is quiet at night).
2. hot when gaming(Mass effect, Dota 2)(acceptable for the slim model)

Other Thoughts: A tip: you can limit the CPU frequency to 99%, so that the CPU won't get too hot when gaming, And it won't influence the frames much. The i7 CPU can get very hot (mine got 90 C once) when it reaches like 3.19 GHz. After this setting, the CPU only gets like 70+ C at maximam 2.35 GHz.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Desktop Replacement for the Money

Pros: Very solid build quality.
Backlit Keyboard.
Great Pricepoint.
Top of the line CPU.
Pretty good mobile GPU.

Cons: Doesn't have an SSD. (easy to add)
Doesn't have wireless 802.11AC (easy to add)
Keyboard is a bit weird. Home/End/Delete are a bit off from where I am used to. Programming on it for a little less than a month now, and still not used to it.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Pros.. same as previous review comment.

Cons: Although its resolution is 1080p, many aspects of the screen are far from perfect. The colors seem extremely washed out for one; many times I catch myself with my face to the monitor to find out whether the less than crisp text is due to the screen or my dry contact lenses.

Although this laptop is more than enough spec-wise to play most low end games, games as low as Prison Architect tends to freeze up for a second or two at times.

Lastly, I again end with my complaint over Windows 8.. Yes, they added a start button, but my problem with W8 wasn't the lack of start button but the start menu itself. Why can't you understand Microsoft?

(you'll get used to the Windows 8 however..)

Other Thoughts: Despite the update on the cons of this product, it is still one of the better deals out there for this price range.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It seems sleek and sturdy, has a lot of space with a terabyte hard drive. I got it on sale for $940 so it was a fairly nice deal for what it has.

Speakers by Bang and Olufsen, comes with additional add-on subwoofer that you plug in, adds a little bit of bass to your sound experience.

Only had it four couple days so I will update with any further details.

Cons: Separate partitions for harddrive, two partitions: one for OS, and other for normal data.

Windows 8, WHY?????????

Given, 8.1 is a step up but still, Windows 8...

Despite the Bang and Olufsen name being branded on the laptop, sound isn't as good as I expected from such brand name. Subwoofer, barely audible. Keyboard feels cheap, but still has backlight so I'm "eh" about it.

Other Thoughts: When it was $940, it was definitely worth the deal, not so sure compared to other devices in $1100+ category. GT750m isn't the best graphics card, but it seems capable of playing most games, have not tried BF4 yet.
