Key Features
Singularly Remarkable Beauty

Setting new standards in technology and fashion, Zenbook Prime measures just 3mm thick at the front and 9mm at the back. It uses precision-crafted aluminum throughout its monoshell build, ensuring light durability. The cover features finely-etched concentric circles that embody the infinite nature of Zen thinking, and the entire design has been optimized to offer a holistic approach towards combining beauty with speed, and balancing work with play. To maintain this look and feel, ASUS has developed a lineup of Zenbook Prime accessories that are just as attractive and sophisticated.

Trend-Setting Speed And Power

ASUS engineering has been able to accomplish the feat of bestowing Zenbook Prime with uncompromising technical excellence despite its ultra-suave and compact form. Up to 3rd generation Intel® Core i7™ processors are at the heart, while SATA 6Gbps SSD storage outpaces normal hard drives by up to four times. Similarly, USB 3.0 ensures data moves up to ten times faster than USB 2.0, and Bluetooth 4.0 offers the latest version of the wireless connectivity standard. Dual band 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi derived from top-end ASUS router technology ensures the fastest networking, and to keep all of this cool, a proprietary V-shaped air channel drives heat away before it can cause instability.

Responding to Your Needs

Intelligent power management and extreme efficiency have resulted in Zenbook Prime offering two-second instant-on resume, similar to your smartphone and creating an always-on ultrabook that doesn't make you wait. It can also stay in standby for up to two weeks with the security of automatic file backup to prevent data loss. The battery lasts 25% longer than those found on other notebooks, helped along by two distinct operating modes that can be switched instantly: performance mode in high demand applications, and battery saving mode during daily computing tasks. For a genuinely personal and discrete user experience, Zenbook Prime offers facial recognition to minimize the risk of unauthorized usage.

The Art of Entertainment

Zenbook Prime fields a vivid full HD 1080p IPS panel that brings visuals to breathtaking life with 350cd/m2 brightness and 800:1 contrast. Its anti-glare materials reduce distracting reflections and unsightly fingerprints, while IPS technology affords wide 178° viewing angles so more people can look on with better quality from almost any direction. Even in the dark, Zenbook Prime shines, using a high-comfort backlit keyboard so you can keep working and enjoying without disturbing others. And for face to face communications, the built-in HD camera does your conversations great justice.

ASUS SonicMaster Audio Technology

To complement its superior visual finesse, Zenbook Prime includes exclusive ASUS SonicMaster audio technology, developed together with Bang and Olufsen ICEpower®. Sharper high notes, clearer vocals, deeper bass, and a wider sound range all impress, completing a remarkably attractive portable multimedia package.

2 out of 5 eggsbroke twice right after 1 year warranty period

Pros: Small Fast Well built

Cons: Proprietary SSD drive too expensive to replace. No upgrades for possible for anything. Runs too hot. Terrible service from Asus.

Right after 1 yr warranty, the power cable died but I was able to get it fixed. Since that did not stop me, the SSD drive died a month later. it is not a standard M SSD drive and it cost more than double the others. It seems many others are reporting this same problem. This unit should have been recalled.

Other Thoughts: I've been using Asus products for well over 15 years. What is consistant is that they make good hardware but could care less about service after the fact.

Bottom line, this machine was built to last 1 year then die so you have to buy again. Tacky capitalism. cheap shot.

I will scrutinize my next Asus purchase from now on.

1 out of 5 eggsGood looking but flaky

Pros: Light and sleek. The 256 GB SSD is a decent size

Cons: One of the flakiest machine I have ever had. There are apparently problems with the bios that Asus is not openly acknowledging, but which manifest themselves by problems associated with the sleep function, i.e., after a while your laptop switches to the setup utility page and there is no way to leave it except through a hard reboot. That will get you out and you can log back in just to wait for the problem to reoccur.

In addition to the above problem, the power adapter just died on me, and the aluminium of the casing is so thin that it is easy to dent of scratch it on the slightest surface bump. When combined with lukewarm performance (in spite of the SSD), I don't think I will renew my experience with Asus.

4 out of 5 eggsA little bit disappointed

Pros: Fast, lightweight, great battery life, pretty much everything works.

Cons: I did note expect integrated graphics to be this bad. Streaming HD videos is often laggy, and I know it isn't because of the internet. Using the three finger window scrolling (basically windows button + tab) is a bit choppy.

Two finger scrolling on chrome is very choppy when you swipe and let go. I am not sure if this is a graphics problem or not because this does not happen on mozilla firefox.

3 out of 5 eggsux31a 4gram 256ssd

Pros: light weight, easy to use

Cons: not enough ram, should buy a couple sticks of 4x2 sticks of ram if your going to purchase this at the same time.

1 out of 5 eggsKeyboard doesn't work properly

Pros: Looks nice, good screen

Cons: fn+f2,f3,f4,f5,f6,f7,f8,f9,f10,f11,f12 either don't work or are very delayed. I've tried installing new drivers after upgrading to windows 8 but nothing fixed it.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this computer, for $1000 one would expect it to work

4 out of 5 eggsZenbook UX31A

Pros: This laptop is sleek, perfect design for an ultrabook, semi matte display, as I hate shiny reflective diplays, fast startup. i7 powered,. The price point compared to other laptops with 256 SSD is pretty good. Good sound

Cons: I read somewhere that u get 32G cloud storage with Asus, when you buy it, but i got only 5G. Should come with micro hdmi to hdmi adapter.
What really deserved one egg subtraction, is the horrible leakage of the backlight of the screen (when dark), in the bottom and right side of the display. I have Samsung series 9 laptop with Matte display and it has no leakage at all. As other have noticed this is the DB version with a sticker to rebrand it as R4003V, I dont get why.

Other Thoughts: Although this is last year model, and although the screen backlight leaks when dark, it is still awesome ultrabook. For some reason, getting a decent 256G SSD from any manufacture cost $1400+, so this is a Gem in comparison, and to top that, it beats all of them in the sleek design. I personally prefer Windows 7 to windows 8, so being last year model was not an issue for me.

5 out of 5 eggsasus ux31a

Pros: Very good price, good screen, good battery life, good hard drive space, thin, light, backlit keyboard

Cons: None other than fiddly settings that made no sense

Other Thoughts: Even though the serial number mentioned on this item says that it is r400 something the actually number that the computer uses is db71 so it is the same as the other ux31as this was confusing when I went to purchase it however I was glad this was not an issue

Although people mentioned fan issues and backlight bleed I haven't found any problems with mine after 1 month

The touchpad I have found to be very good although I don't like the click pad and have set it to accept taps instead of clicks I also downloaded a free application called touch freeze

Overall I give it a strong 9.5 out of 10 with my only gripe being that it takes fiddling with the settings to fix everything the way I wanted it in the power saving settings

5 out of 5 eggsZenbook UX31A

Pros: portability, sleek, very light, backlit keyboard, quiet, gorgeous, screen resolution-bright and sharp, Window 7

Cons: No micro HDMI adapters, only 2 USB, lag hiccups at times but could be due to AT&T DSL

Other Thoughts: I appreciate Newegg, Invoice on Monday and received delivery on Tuesday! This Zenbook allows me to use as home desktop via Asus 3.0 docking station and for travel/work. For extra memory I have connectivity with portable 1TB hard drive and for CD/DVD I have external Blu ray burner. As a monitor when used as desktop at home connectivity to 32” HDTV with 1080 resolution.

I wanted a laptop with the latest high end features and still avoid Window 8. It was important for me to have 1080 resolution on the HDTV and thus I avoided comparable computers with 1600 x 900 resolution.

Because of my bad wrist I use an external wireless mouse and disable the laptop mouse. The laptop boot and shut down in seconds, as fast as my lousy AT&T DSL will allow, much faster on Comcast wireless. Asus model code U31A-R4003V I believe is marketed in Great Britain but my box has the US model listed UX31A-DB71 before purchasing I contacted Asus to assure warranty which was affirmative.
My computer has the SandForce Drive AData XM11, 256 GB divided into C&D drive, and Asus web Air storage available. I’ve seen users’ reviews that dreaded the Sandisk U100SSD.

To avoid possible operating problems I registered on Asus website and downloaded the latest updates. Overall this is an excellent and appropriate computer for me in terms of value, price and utility.

5 out of 5 eggsVery fancy and reliable ultrabook

Pros: Thin, light, i7(dual core), SSD, microHDMI, USB3.0, B&O high-end sound

Cons: No build-in CD/DVD drive, limited 2 USB slots, key pressing feels rigid, no "home, end, pg up, pg down" keys

Other Thoughts: I like this ultrabook for it's light, thin, high power, and fast. The sound quality is exceptionally great comparing normal line of laptops. The SSD is fast but a bit small for 256GB, but it's enough for daily business/study use. No CD/DVD optical drive is no biggy to me since I quit using these for years ever since I have flash drives and hundres of GB external hard drives. The only thing I hate is the keyboard feels hard when press. I personally prefer the one from Lenovo, which has about same class super-mobile ultrabook - the X1 Carbon, but it's about twice more expensive, and I prefer the quality and build from ASUS. Last thing, I use a lot "home, end, pg up, pg down" keys on daily basis. This laptop has them integrated with "up, down, left, right" keys. You need to press "Fn" key at the same time to access these functions which annoys me a lot. Therefore, I have to change my Word typing and web browsing habit, or connect to a USB full size keyboard when I'm home. This may not trouble every one since everyone has own style in computer-using today.
