2 out of 5 eggsFrustrating start

Pros: All the specifications for this machine are greatly suited for any videogame aficionado.
Great screen, plenty of storage space, nice sound.
This product is listed as refurbished, but the cosmetics were in great shape, it felt like the machine was brand new.
Regarding newegg shipping service I can say that I got my product in time, however packaging was pretty average, Im surprised the laptop wasnt damaged.

Cons: The main reason why I chose this computer is because of the GPU, however I hate to say that I have been really disappointed since day one, as soon as I tried playing games on this, problems started to appear regarding the GPU. Everytime I try to play the screen freezes and goes black, I've tried a lot of things to make it work, but havanet found a solution yet. Refursbished or not, no customer should have to go thru so much hassle, to have an out of the box product working properly.

Other Thoughts: I will keep trying to fix this issue, I'd hate to have to return this computer, I really loved the idea of spending hours playing all my games on it. It really sucks that the only thing not working is the main reason why I bought this.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment with the laptop. I certainly understand your concern regarding the stability issues with the system while playing games. In order to improve system stability and performance, please install all recommended WINDOWS Updates and upgrade to WINDOWS 8.1 before running any games. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3602991 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

3 out of 5 eggsEpic Fail

Pros: Bought this laptop 4 month ago and was happy as a kid. High gaming performance with 1st class video card and good working machine(running matlab days and nights).

Cons: The main concern is NEVER BUY REFURBISHED! Got mine "bricked" after an attempt to make a dual boot with Ubuntu/Windows on separate hard drives and have disabled Fast Boot option in BIOS. Now it is as useful as Justin Bieber songs. As it is refurbished and my warranty is over(3 mnth limited) I took to a local repair shop where they have asked 1400$ for 900 laptop as motherboard need to be replaced(they are limited in options). It is appeared to be a common problem for this motherboards so be careful(easily googlable) as BIOS hardware re-installation is required.

Other Thoughts: If you guys are thinking in such investment I suggest never to purchase refurbished laptops not due to quality but rather to the future concerns and possible claims. But the one who is greedy pays twice.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent value.
Mine came looking brand new and reasonably well packed.
The 670MX does very well for a mobile graphics card, and overclocks quite nicely. I couldn't tell if these are supposed to come with bluetooth built in, but mine did.

Cons: Windows 8
Hard drive it comes with is pretty slow

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend getting an SSD as a boot drive. The G75 models have 2 drive bays, and this model should have the 2nd drive cage included. The included hard drive (probably the WD10JPVT) actually has fairly decent raw read/write speeds, but the access time is horrible, on account of it being 5400 rpm. Thus, it makes a lousy boot drive, but a great secondary storage drive with an SSD as the primary boot drive.

I installed windows 7 on mine. Drivers were a royal pain, but I was able to get everything working, including the keyboard backlight and function keys.

The LCD panel can be overclocked a little bit. It won't do 120hz but it can handle 75hz and even 96hz.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost the best!

Pros: Great laptop.. great but not the best. This was my first refurbed laptop purchase and was only slightly disappointed, more on that later. For pros I have to say it arrived looking brand new and the screen is super clear with no dead pixels or strange banding. The graphics card (gtx670mx) is one of the best simply because you can safely overclock this thing to the max and still be at a good temp (57 Celsius at 100%) and if that makes you uncomfortable add a cooling pad. With the max overclock I get 40-50 fps in Far Cry 3 on ultra and 30-40 fps in BF4 ultra (without super sampling). Lots of storage and room to add more if you need it. RAM is adequate and also room for upgrading if you so desire.

Cons: When I said I was only slightly disappointed I meant this: When I received my laptop it came in case tight cardboard... no pageantry here. Hell, not even bubble wrap!! I'm surprised it wasn't damaged upon arrival. I also had to "repair" some of the IRREMOVABLE Asus bloatware as it was not functioning properly. An easy fix just repair from the Asus support site. The only other con I have is that this thing is NOT lightning quick no matter what any other review states. "In game" performance you could say is lightning quick but overall no. The thing holing this laptop back is the hard drive. It's painfully slow. 26-40 second start-up time says so. So feel free to take advantage of the extra storage slots and add a SSHD or a full blown SSD to boot from, the former being a ver cost effective alternative to your stock 5400 rpm HD.

Other Thoughts: I've had this for over 5 months now and no new problems! Still have it overclocked and about to do some upgrading on this beast (SSD boot drive, 32GB RAM kit) this thing will be barking up the big boy tree soon! Would buy again in a heartbeat.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, horrible shipping

Pros: First off, the laptop itself gets 5/5. I was a tad hesitant about getting a refurbished model but so far so good. The nearest comparable new laptop that I could find added a good $300-$400 to the price. It's lightning quick, durable, stylish, came right out of the box in perfect working order, just had to plug it in and get going. Windows 8 wasn't as bad to adapt to as feared, though having Classic Shell really helps. I upgraded from a Compaq CQ60 (which for the price I loved) with a Celeron bought in 2009 to this beast so I'm just blown away with the speed and ease of use on this device. It feels and looks well built, which is something ASUS seems to have a great reputation for. So far very, very pleased with this device and the purchase.

Cons: The main con that brings the rating down so far was the shipping. For timing issues I went with the 3 day shipping that was $5 more, and it did technically arrive within that 3 business day window. However it was not at my apartment. Luckily at 10pm the night it had supposedly arrived (I had tracked it and figured it might be at the office but I got home too late to check) someone knocked on my door and left it there. Now I don't hold Newegg responsible for that, that's UPS's fault and unfortunately the holidays haven't let me have it out with them. The part I hold Newegg responsible for is the fact that it was shipped in a box that blatantly told what was exactingly in the box, in numerous places, including exact model number and specs. The inside had the laptop attached to a cardboard backing with plastic...and no other type of padding or any type of protection. The power adapter was bouncing around in the box, not secured in any way. Luckily nothing was damaged and my neighbor, or whomever, was good enough to not just keep it for themselves, something you don't always see these days. So for all of that, I do hold Newegg accountable. All that said, things broke luckily for me in that there was no damage and it did get to me.

Other Thoughts: Wonderful laptop, couldn't have asked for a better, solidly built and powered machine. Hopefully this beast lasts as long and as well as my old Compaq.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, missing power adapter

Pros: Great specs, great price, like new out of the box, excellent overall value

Cons: Mine arrived without a power adapter. Contacted newgg and they emailed me a form to fill out so they could contact Asus for me to get a power adapter sent out.

Other Thoughts: Not gonna dock an egg for the missing power adapter as they are working on the issue. I have a spare power adapter for my sons G75vw so I'm using that until the correct one arrives.

2 out of 5 eggsFairly displeased UPDATED REVIEW

Pros: I AM UPDATING MY REVIEW. The review has been updated for my time of ownership has increased. I feel as though it's necessary to do another review. Asterisks will be placed upon new or modified material.

-Able to play every game I throw at it and has had no problems keeping up. The 670mx makes short work of anything I toss at it, same with the i7 processor. *670mx is still making short work of every single game I've thrown at it, not even overclocked.

-1TB of storage along with a 1080p screen? Love it.

-Pleased with all of that.

-Computer arrived in what looked like nearly brand new condition.

-Keyboard feels nice to use.

-Ports work, all very speedy in general

-Touchpad is fairly nice to use.

-Computer arrived ahead of schedule.

*- Accepts a second hard drive. Using a SSD, the computer is faster than all can be.

Cons: -The screen itself is either poor quality or mine is just poor. I have black lines that run through the screen whenever I look at something dark in contrast. Upon a quick internet search, this seems to be a common problem among this series. *I have, however, fixed this problem through various tinkering in the Nvidia settings. Do feel free to ask a question as to how, if you have this issue as well.

-Backlight keys refuse to work, no matter how much tinkering I do with uninstalling and reinstalling things. I believe that it's at the hardware level right now. This seems to be less common. *Confirmed to be at the hardware level by Geek Squad.

-Windows 8 came inactivated, but after a short, automated call to Microsoft, that was fixed. Still disturbingly arrogant to ship something out like that.

*-The Windows 8 key that came included on the laptop was actually invalided by Microsoft themselves, meaning that I no longer have a legitimate copy of WIndows 8 until I buy a new one. This key was OEM, meaning that it came straight from ASUS themselves. ASUS has yet to attempt to fix this without claiming that I need to send the product back.

-No optimous technology.

-Heavy weight, but that's mainly for fans. *10lbs gets extremely heavy in the lap after a while.

-Arrived in a box with little to no lining to keep it from getting damaged in transit.

-Loads of bloatware that's NECESSARY to keep the computer running properly. *The bloatware isn't necessary to keep the computer running, but to keep the computer running nicely.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm pleased with the performance of the computer, but extremely displeased with the quality and condition that it arrived in. I do understand the refurbished does not mean new, but it means that it should not have problems with the screen, the keyboard, the operating system, and so on.

If the actual problems (screen, keyboard, etc) did not exist, I would change my rating in a heartbeat (up to around 4 or 5 eggs), however, the G75VX series seems to be plagued with these issues. and (usually) go unresolved from a single RMA. I have these issues and the fact that I'm probably going to have to RMA is an extreme turn away. *The fact that my Windows 8 key is also deactivated is extremely mind boggling as well, especially due to the fact that ASUS refuses to reissue a new one, and Microsoft refuses to tell me why the OEM key of a major company has been blocked.

I would recommend this product, but be cautious. You don't know the real condition until you notice the subtle things.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat but very disappointed

Pros: Great Laptop, runs games smoothly and without a problem.

Cons: No cons, except for the fact that I received a broken out of the box charger for this laptop, currently going through the RMA process

Other Thoughts: Even though i had to send this back, hopefully the new one that arrives will be perfect.
gave 3 Stars because it is still an amazing laptop for the price.
will update the review once i have actually received a fully working laptop.
