3 out of 5 eggsBad HDD & OS

Pros: -Good System Specs (Aside from the Hard Drive)
-Great Price

Personally if I were to buy a ROG Laptop, I'd definitely go for a brand new one over refurbished. The price seems good, but having to dump money into it right of the bat doesn't seem good.

Cons: (Based on my Experience with this laptop)
When I got the laptop, it worked fine, boot time had no problems, it had a scratch on the side but that was expected after all.

What makes this a bad review is due to the fact that the HDD & OS were bad. The Update manager in Win8 was in some way corrupted so that it would see updates, but not download or install them. After considerable man hours working to fix the issue (only to find a temporary fix) I was able to get it updating enough to get win8.1 running.

After that and a few programs installed (virus protection, VLC player, Steam, Notepad++) the boot time went to C**p on it. Average boot time to the login screen went to about a 15 minute wait. Then another 7 after login. I understand that the drive is only running at 5400 RPMs, but that is rediculous. I've seen pc's still running Win98 with a 8GB drive boot faster.

That aside, everything else runs quite nicely and is great for gaming if you can get the game installed before the hard drive freezes on you.

Other Thoughts: I've always favored ASUS over any other brand and Newegg as my purchasing medium over other sites. This, however, is really put a few things into perspective. I don't understand how a drive can be in this bad of condition and still pass as Grade B refurbished.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jared,

I certainly understand your concern regarding the slow bootup process from the hardrive. Please make sure all recommended WINDOWS Update were installed and try to load default settings in the BIOS. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3582510 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel

5 out of 5 eggsASUS G75VX

Pros: --Powerful CPU
--Outstanding GPU - GTX670MX is equivalent to GTX765M and at some benchmarks GTX670MX is even better performing GPU than GTX765M. So, GTX670MX is close to GTX770M.
--Nice design with rubberized finish and aluminium finish around keyboard and the speakers.
--Two Hard Drive bays
--Perfect dual cooling system and easy access to vents
--Lots of peripheral and multimedia features.
--ASUS Utilities as always comprehensible and very useful.

Cons: --HDD is of-course slow but as it has two hard drive bays then just get an SSD as a primary drive for the OS and system - which I did and boosted laptop performance 2 times.

Other Thoughts: It is my second ASUS G class refurbished notebook. All I can say is that I'm am very happy with this purchase as I was with my previous. My old laptop that I bought is ASUS G72 that I bought as a refurbished in 2011. I did a few upgrades to it such as faster CPU, primary hard drive replaced with SSD, replaced screen to Matte as it was Glossy and had a few problems. That G72 is still fast today and nevertheless it has Core 2 Duo CPU and GTX260M allows to play Battlefield 3 on low settings. However, the new one that I just got G75VX lets me play Battlefield 3 on ULTRA settings and still get FPS like 50 - 70.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO BUY REFURBISHED LAPTOP cause it is refurbished by manufacturer. Mine came very well packed in the box - I don't know what other people were complaining here about packaging. The shipping was very fast (2 business days) even though it was economy shipping. Also, I did not find not a single scratch on it nor even a finger print. It looks like totally brand new. The only scratches I found was on the power supply, but again you don't see them if you don't take a closer look at it.

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and I am even more happy to save so much money by buying a refurbished product and get a brand new product. Thank you NEWEGG for this opportunity and also thank you for your service on helping me to solve a few issues that I had with my credit card payment.

5 out of 5 eggsBHI7N11 Non-Scratch/Dent

Pros: - FAST Shipping. Ordered Wed. 10:40pm EST, here on Friday.
- As a software application developer and computer enthusiast, I can never ignore the price-per-performance ratio. Here, it's stellar.
- 2.4Ghz i7 3630QM with 8 hyper-threads and boost up to 3.4Ghz
- 3GB GDDR5 GTX 670MX, ways to make it act like a GTX 770.
- 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3, planning to upgrade to 16GB, can do 32GB.
- "Refurbished" but looks to be brand new. No visible defects.
- Multi-touch pad is super responsive, Fn key can turn it off too!
- 4x USB 3.0 that support 2.0. Drivers for peripherals take 2-3 sec.
- Matte finish with brushed metal. Full lit keyboard with 3 modes.
- Comfortable palm rest, only 4 cert. stickers to left of touchpad.
- Minimal matte ROG logo on right palmrest and lid. Lid is engraved.
- Solid build, very little flex anywhere. Simple to add a second HDD.
- Fn key can do volume control, screen brightness, keyboard light, wireless, sleep, second display switch, ASUS Splendid, etc.
- 1TB HDD with 893.7GB available. Not too much bloatware.
- Shipped with perfect condition charger and battery. Major plus.
- Battery life in performance mode isn't too bad, 5hr without GPU on.
- Decent camera, won't be using it much though. Has a flash.
- Cold boot is around 4 seconds after I set up all of windows.
- Initial setup took around 5 minutes.
- Sleep > Wake is about 2 seconds once power indicator blinks.
- Win8 isn't terrible. Runs all Win7 software I use and gestures fine.
- Multitasking is fluid, workflow is expedited as a result.
- Big, bright screen. Matte so easy to see outside. FHD 1920x1080.

Cons: - The indicator lights are on the front left of this laptop, so I can't see them too well. Not worth taking an egg off for though, just how it's built.
- 5400rpm 1TB HDD is a little slow for this price point, but it keeps the price lower than it could be. If you have an SSD lying around like me(Sam. EVO 1TB) it makes programs run even faster. Still, the specs make it the pinnacle of laptops for this price. And the boot times above are before tinkering with ANYTHING. Surprised me.

Other Thoughts: As mentioned prior, the absolute best you can find in this price range. I was looking for a desktop replacement for months, and I have been pleased so far with my purchase. Thank you Newegg. Thank you ASUS.
