1 out of 5 eggsDon't trust the brand anymore

Pros: sleek and light

Cons: Asus support is non-existent, RMA requests go into deaf ears. After 6 months, hard disk died, no response from ASUS support. 1.5 years later, laptop won't boot, many users facing same problem - blank screen and all leds on.

Other Thoughts: No more ASUS, would recommend against buying an ASUS

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Prakash,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS laptop. On behalf of ASUS we apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. Please allow me to assist you.

Can we have a detailed information about the unit's issue, how is the laptop now? Have you tried connecting the power adapter and check if the power indicator is lighting up, try to press down the power button for 5 to 10 seconds to try to turn on the unit. Can we also have the unit's serial number for me to check it's warranty and in case I need to process a RMA.

If you need further technical assistance or if you want to discuss this matter with me, please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case #N151065794 in the subject line for a reference. I'm here to help you and all others with these issues, as our customer loyalty department dedicated to bringing a resolution to all issues related to our products.

Thank you for choosing ASUS.

Best regards,
Jerry

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, Great Price

Pros: Amazing price for what you get. Light weight. Screen is very clear. The cool touch feature is very nice to have when you have a ton of typing to do.

Cons: The RAM slot can only handle up to a 4 gig stick.

Other Thoughts: I'm not a fan of windows 8. 8 makes it way to difficult to get to the BIOS. I ordered 2 of these laptops, and installed PC Linux OS on one of them, it works perfectly.

4 out of 5 eggsnice laptop for the money

Pros: great laptop with a built in dvdrw which seems to be rare now days. performs well

Cons: Intel I series processors are much faster than this, but it's still a good solid performer.

4 out of 5 eggsGood basic laptop that works well with Linux

Pros: Good performance and cheap cost. Fair display but with the usual embarrassingly low resolution, USB3, nice keyboard. Once you jettison LoseDoze 8 and UEFI and install Fedora 19 or 20 (XFCE, not the Gnome cell phone), you've got a real computer. Speakers are surprisingly good.

Cons: Touchpad is beyond terrible. Get a small wireless mouse. Sadly, Fedora 20 no longer includes AMD Catalyst driver in the rpmfusion repo. Since Nvidia Optimus is a non-starter on Linux laptops, we've been thrown to the wolves. Google Linus Thorvald's well-deserved Nvidia outburst.

Other Thoughts: This is the third quad-core AMD A-series CPU ASUS laptop that I've purchased from NewEgg for members of my family over the past two years. The model numbers keep changing, but the price stays around $360, unless you miss the frequent "sales". I put 8GB of RAM in and Fedora on each.
