5 out of 5 eggsRight features at the right price

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: Good balance of features. 17.3" FULL 1080p HD screen, high performance nVidia GPU, 12GB of memory, and a big hard drive. HDMI supports at least up to QHD (2560x1440), so probably full HDMI 1.4 compatibility.

Cons: It doesn't come with any kind of bag or case, not even a cheap sleeve. That's a major letdown for such an expensive laptop. (ASUS wants you to buy their expensive backpacks - ugh.)
The keyboard takes some getting used to - the keys take some extra pressure to type, so sometimes I miss a letter. Definitely better for WASD than for a Master's thesis.
The cord has all but completely come out of the charger - it's not as securely mounted inside the charger as it could be. ASUS offered to RMA the power supply, but never got back to me when I requested an Advance RMA. I need this thing for work so I can't live without my charger for 3 or 4 weeks while they fix it. I've generally been impressed with ASUS's customer service, which is why I chose this brand when I went laptop shopping.
And then what you'd expect when you buy a gaming desktop that's been put through Wayne Szalinski's shrinking machine. It's big and it's heavy.
And the dynamic contrast can be really annoying, especially when web browsing or switching between applications where you go from a light background to a dark one, and I can't find any way to turn it off.

Other Thoughts: This is for the G750JW.

I'm giving 5 eggs because the quality of the laptop itself is top notch. 0 dead pixels, great screen clarity and color depth. Didn't require any screen calibration to look great (but I'm not hard to please there). Plays Skyrim pretty well, though the mobile 765 GPU isn't nearly as powerful as my 2 generations older 570 desktop card.
Can get pretty loud and warm - make sure you keep it ventilated! Keep the bottom and the back clear for airflow - no sitting this on your blanket in your bed.

3 out of 5 eggsSo far So Good

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: Beautiful, super clean lines, amazing afterburner style air vents. Which is why I purchased this computer. Every gaming notebook I have owned always suffered from horrid cooling. Why these engineers still think it's a good idea to draw in air from the bottom with like literally no clearance other than a tiny rubber feet, and shoot it out the side are crazy. This design finally made sense. Air comes in from above, and shoots straight out the back, with not just one fan sharing the GPU and CPU, but 2!!!! This baby stays really cool, I have the GTX 765M overclocked 130mhz and not a problem. The CPU as well stays quite cool.

Cons: The Bios SUCKS!!! I woulda thought it would have a neat bios loaded with customizations. I mean after all it is a thousand dollar gaming laptop. But instead you get the junk basic list of changing your boot drive and thats it. This bugs me because my memory isn't running at 1600 but instead around 900!! and theres no way to change that. So obviously im heated about that and have been looking into ways to unlock the bios without bricking it or voiding the warranty. I want the speed that I paid for, 900 doesn't cut it. Also, Get a SSD!!!! I decided to see if the HDD would be enough and ehhhhhh, kinda hit n miss. It doesn't take a long time to boot up, but theres a few things that take time n a SSD would solve that right quick. It has 2 drive slots so you might as well fill the other up anyways. My new corsair drive fixed that right up.

Other Thoughts: So aside from the ram speed putsing about, I have enjoyed everything about this beautiful machine. Aside from the screen which I kind of have mixed feelings about. something about it looks rich n deep, and then at times it also looks cheap and bad lit. But I've never been a fan of matte displays anyways. I'll take a rich glossy screen any day and deal with the reflection that look at a muttled screen. I aint gaming outside or anything!

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsBuy Win8 retail with this!

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: Hardware and Newegg's speed of processing and shipping.

Cons: For anyone that likes knowing what is on their system and wants a fresh install of an OS, expect to spend an extra $130 or so to get a retail version of Windows 8. The version of Windows 8 on this system is "OEM", which is complete junk. You cannot download a legit retail version with the key from the OEM version, so you are stuck with bloatware and customer no-service that just tries giving you some backup program to copy the bloaty version over to a new hard drive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you don't like the pres-installed software with the laptop. You can always uninstall or remove these software or applications if not needed. The WINDOWS 8 OEM version is a full version, no need to purchase a retail version. Alsom the bundled or pre-installed WINDOWS 8 is qualified for a free upgrade to WINDOWS 8.1. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140935498 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: I love everything about this laptop, smooth running and no issues at all out of the box. Wish it would have had the option for Win7.

Cons: I do not like Win 8 so far even after getting the 8.1 update.
Product key for the OS could have been easier to locate.

Other Thoughts: Other than the OS this laptop rocks!!, I have had none of the issues others have posted

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely love it!

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: -Powerful
-Good graphics
-Runs Metro: Last Light smoothly in Full HD
-GPU Boost 2.0 strengthened by the raw power of the two BEAST fans
-Backlit keyboard
-Love the feel of the keyboard
-Sweet design

Cons: -The touchpad can really get to you WILL accidentally switch from gaming to skype, facebook, or desktop, because the bottom right of your palm was touching it. This can easily be fixed though, by deactivating the touchpad to only use your mouse.
-Bulky and heavy-Doesn't really matter too much though, it's not like you constantly game on the move.

Other Thoughts: FANTASTIC MACHINE. Would absolutely recommend it to any core/hardcore gamer. I don't care what people say about their customer support because this beast isn't likely to ever run into any trouble.

3 out of 5 eggs"It looks like you're trying to update Windows 8. Would you like help?"

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: Backlit keyboard, runs cool, nice graphics and screen. Love the matte finish. Haven't had a chance to play games on it yet, so can't comment, but seems to have a nice fan system for a laptop. I don't mind the weight and size of the machine -- just a personal preference. I'm a graphic designer and writer; I like to be able to see what I'm doing.

One note on the trackpad, it is very sensitive, as others have mentioned. I use an external mouse, but there's no way to disable the trackpad (that I can find). Would be nice to have that feature.

Cons: Three "cons": 1) Windows 8; 2) Windows 8; and 3) Windows 8. This OS is an absolute nightmare. I set the machine to automatically download and install updates, and it choked on one of them yesterday (got stuck in an endless loop than an update had failed and it was reverting back to original settings, which went on for literally hours). I was finally able to reboot into the recovery screen (F9 for anyone else with this issue) and do a factory restore. On a three-day old laptop! I now have Windows updates set to manual control and am researching other options.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if the laptop started having problems after a WINDOWS Update. This is related to an issue with the WINDOWS Update impleentation. The problematic updates should have been removed from the list by Microsoft. Please install the recommended WINDOWS Update in the Control Panel, Windows Update then click on "Check for Updates" from the left-pane window. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140935663 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk, wouldn't buy - read all policies from Asus, then contact NewEgg before your return period is up...

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JW-NH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8

Pros: Performance isn't bad...ships with a 5.8 Windows User Experience right out of the box, which isn't great, but it doesn't take a lot to upgrade that level.

Cons: Terrible customer service from Asus, conflicting warranty and return policies between Asus and NewEgg, touchpad is absolutely maddening, Asus tech support is incredibly unqualified to help, NewEgg chat support was no help, had to call and fight with phone support, escalate, and still end up with a terrible solution which leaves me high and dry and out 2x the cost of the computer just to keep a laptop in my hands. Would never buy Asus again, may never buy a laptop online again.

Pros: graphics are good, plays WoW between 80-130 gps. great sound. usb 3.0 is always nice

Cons: very large and bulky. but if your buying it as a gaming solution, mobility wont be a high factor.
