1 out of 5 eggsTotal Junk and Terrible Support

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Problematic Audio from Day One (chronic problem per complaints all over Internet)
Died in under six months
Asus would not honor warranty and instead wanted more for a repair than the unit costs new.

Other Thoughts: I support several small companies and do all of the hardware/software specification, purchasing, and configuration for them. Lately have been buying Asus as they seem to offer exceptional value. Had success with them for about two years and so got this one for my niece to take to college. It completely dies in under six months and Asus will not honor the warranty. Newegg sold it to me without a warranty they say. How I don't know as that is not what the item description said. The Asus tech said it would probably cost $x to be repairs so we sent it in and was then told three times that amount, more than the cost of a newer better machine. Shame on Asus and shame on Newegg. I will not buy another product from Asus ever again. Used to be my go to motherboard manufacturer and trusted for other products, but after this first ever 'warranty' request I have learned my lesson.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No pros.

Cons: the new laptop shows "no battery is detected". After charging the battery for 4 hours, the problem remains. I do not understand why this hapened. Did ASUS and newegg sell it without checking? So I have to send the new laptop to ASUS service center for repair. Next time I will buy a laptop from a real store but not from an internet store again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if there was no battery detected inside the laptop. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the laptop in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# N141231161 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsA Good Buy

Pros: I bought this laptop 6 months ago as an entry level touchscreen and use it daily. This machine is used mostly for internet research in the home / office environment, and all around GP, general scans, diagnostic work, video editing, etc.

I am pleased to report that it has met or exceeded my expectations. The overall design is aesthetically pleasing. I like the brushed aluminium. So far it hasn't dented and still looks new. All of the ports seem to be in the right place. I don't accidentally hit the touch pad while I'm typing like I have before with other computers.

The laptop is pretty fast. The boot up time was fast enough for me to warrant buying SSD drives for the rest of the computers in the house. Cold boot takes seconds, coming out of hibernation is instantaneous. The wife was jealous. I was in the dog house until I bought the other SSDs.

The touch screen brightness has been fine for my purposes. I use the laptop indoors and have never had a problem. Having only used phones, I was pleasantly surprised with the accuracy of touch aspect of the screen and use my index finger more often than the touch pad.

Speed of the laptop is what you would expect for under $500. Sometimes it feels like it could use more ram but usually programs don't take long to open and the laptop feels like it's on top of things.

Cons: I agree with the other reviewer that the keyboard is not what you would expect of a trim machine such as this. I've got the UK keyboard too and it's been annoying as hell. I've had to relearn how to type and even still, 6 months later, I'm still missing the Enter Key and the Left Shift key. My typing speed has dropped by at least 20 points. The keyboard is loud. The keyboard is not back lit. For awhile I remapped the keys to help, but anymore I've decided to just "live with it" as the keyboard cannot be changed.

The brushed aluminum thin case has it's drawbacks where you can't put weight on the laptop while the lid is closed. It puts pressure on the screen from behind. Don't sit a mug of coffee on the machine while it's closed.

The hinges need to be updated. I haven't had one break or anything but the hinges should be stronger for a touchscreen. Every time you press something on the screen, the screen starts waving at you like an old spring. The wife's Yoga doesn't do that, however that's a $3000 machine compared to a $400 machine.

Other Thoughts: Even though I listed a few cons, I still gave this unit a 5 star rating because the cons were nothing unexpected and the laptop is still a tremendous deal at under $500. People who see the laptop love it and expect I paid at least $1500 for it.

I've been recommending it to friends and I'm recommending it to you.

2 out of 5 eggsawesome once if finally starts...

Pros: thing is sleek as heck... the look is great, clean and simple...
touchscreen is responsive and a neat feature.
battery life is about 3 hours... but a refurb...
extremely light and thin

Cons: for an "UltraBook" I think 5-6 mins to boot up is just unacceptable... I did a fresh install of Windows 8 flashed the bios and set to factory defaults... no change which leads me to believe the 24GB SSD is dead or dying which is causing it to hang at ASUS logo in boot... stinks it runs extremely well once it finally boots

Other Thoughts: got a ticket in with ASUS about any easy fixes but I doubt that will lead to anything, will return and since out of stock I guess go with a different model...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Trivette,

Thank you for the positive comment. I apologize if you are experiencing a slow bootup process. This is normal if WINDOWS is being booted up the first time since the system is rebuilding the desktop and updating the registry locally. After several reboot and the system registry update completed, the bootup time will be shorter. Also, upgrading to WINDOWS 8.1 thereafter will improve system performance and stability. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3777833 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

3 out of 5 eggsUK Keyboard

Pros: Good value for the price. If you like UK keyboard layouts buy now :)

Cons: UK Keyboard. I've gotten two of these in now (Returned the first one) - both have the UK style keyboard. You wouldn't think it makes much of a difference, but if you're used to typing on a US keyboard it's enough of a difference to really frustrate you. Second one will be returned as well.

Other Thoughts: Newegg customer server has been very easy to work with, think they got taken by Asus on this deal.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. If the wrong product was delivered to you, please contact New Egg directly for any sales related issues. Should you need further assistance with the laptop, please email me at and write down service# 3761887 on the subject line.
