Can you tell me what was done to make this refurbished? Does it run and look like new?

I bought this refurbished model a couple of months ago.  I cannot tell you what was done to refurbish it, however I can tell you it looked brand new and operates like new. My son is a software engineer and he advised me to buy this model for the performance and value.  He said it was what he would buy.

Up to 8 gb, 4 in each RAM slot.  There are two slots.  One on the bottom of the laptop and one under the keyboard

Can I get purchase from Asus a Win7 DVD with all the relevant drivers for the Vivobook laptop?

You cannot purchase a win7 cd from Asus, they do not manufacture those cds. You can order a win7 cd from Microsoft for re-installing it, and the drivers can all be found on the Asus website. Unfortunately companies no longer provide a re-installation disk with laptops anymore.

Does anyone know how much this laptop weighs? Can't find official specs on Asus Website and the limited specs on refurbished products here on Newegg don't list it.

Did this laptop have the flashing screen problem and is that why it had to be refurbished?  Has the root cause of this problem been solved or is it still a hit and miss approach?

Most every manufacturer faces those kind of issues. I had this unit apart to add a better wireless card. It seems perfectly well built inside. The hinges don't appear to kink the display cord like some models. The gpu is not one affected by the solder-gate scandal that happened previously. The only weak point I see would be that the keyboard is affixed to the chassis.

Is this Windows 8 (original), 64-bit or 8.1?

Mine came with Windows 8 64-bit. 8.1 is of course a free upgrade available in the windows store.

I recently purchased this model laptop and love it.  I would like to take my Asus Laptop to work and would appreciate information on what kind of  Sim Card or card I need to do this?  This is the first Laptop I have owned.  Thank you

Well to get this laptop to connect to the Internet without any wireless you will need to purchase an air card from your wireless provider that plugs into one of the USB ports.
