2 out of 5 eggsThis pc runs on money

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This is a great pc for people that have decent budget and want to try out gaming without going overboard wit the hardware. It is good for mainstream games at medium to high settings. This pc is mostly made for 2014 titles that were graphically demanding such as war thunder, SOM, GTA V, and other mainstream games. This pc also is good at introducing novice pc ussers to overclocking.

Cons: This is where I have to be brutally honest. The pc last good for a couple of months then it WILL slow down. I am a very cautious and clean pc user. I kept it clean and never overly abused it. But it still broke down over and over again. The first con is when I wanted to overclock it, it is handled by a program that gives you two options "on and off" it is very ineffective, crashes, and doesn't fully utilize the power of the 860m. The pc comes with LOADS of pointless bloatware that slows down boot times and is a pain to erase. The fans work well for a while then they wear down and this is the worst problem I have had so far. The CPU fan has an extremely loud grinding sound as if it is sawing the motherboard in half. When this happens the fan is useless and there is no way to turn it off. The CPU temps went from a cool 30 degrees C to a burning to the touch 80 degrees C. After i bought a $50 cooling pad that added to the noise, The PC would continue to shut off randomly when it is under any type of load. This is not due to the heat but the actually variable causing this is unknown. It will do this around 5 times every hour. The paint used on this pc will fade away and leaves a disgusting texture that is not appealing to the eye at all. I have a very clean room with minimal dust but the pc still finds a way to inhale an extreme amount of dust. The motherboard is coated with layers of thick dust that can be peeled off. All of this would be overlooked if the ASUS support team would do their job but, that obviously isn't the case. ASUS support hung up on me 2 times when I requested help and they angrily refused to give me a new cpu fan when I repeatedly told them that I am more than capable of fixing it myself. I read on many fourms that the support service would allow the customer to install the fan themselves if they requested to but that obviously isn't the case. I don't trust ASUS at all with my broken PC because I feel that sending it would open more problems and would allow them to empty my already empty wallet. If I did trust ASUS I wouldn't have time to send them the unit because I am a very, very, very busy YouTuber that is a month behind on content and is in College trying to become a pilot while in Air Force ROTC as well. This porduct has been a huge inconvenience to me and will destroy my trust for ASUS

Other Thoughts: I have 10 friends that have ASUS ROG computers and they all have had the same issues. This needs to stop I would love to have an upgraded unit because the promises given for this product are all for a limited time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Justin,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections. What you are experiencing are isolated cases. ASUS does stand behind their products and does provide warranty coverage for the laptop but sending replacement parts to customer is not an option that we provide, the unit needs to be sent in for service. If you have issues, questions or concern regarding the product or your recent customer service experience, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150639356 on the subject line. I would be more than glad to assists you.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsIn Love

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great laptop for the money, comes with more than ample power for the games I play (mostly ffxiv if I'm being honest). I haven't had much time to actually play games on it (two jobs sucks) but I use it a lot for programming in Access and it has no problems.

I've seen a lot of people complain about battery life and HDD speed on these laptops. It comes with dual HDD bays so the first thing I did when getting it was make a backup to a flash drive and reinstall the OS onto a SSD. Since that it boots up in 6 seconds (yes I've counted from power button press to login screen) and the battery has almost doubled if I run it on battery saving mode. I can get just over 5 hours out of the battery while coding.

Cons: Doesn't fit in my old Asus laptop backpack :( Nor any other laptop bag I found so I had to go buy the $150 Asus one. Great bag, I don't regret it but it sucks that I had to get another one.

Windows 8 is a pain but I installed Start8 on it and it is much more usable now.

Asus support: I rarely say bad things about support. and this is more of a policy issue but it really grated on my nerves. My intention when buying this was to install windows 7 on it and completely bypass the headache that is windows 8. But when I called asus support just to confirm they had win 7 drivers available I got told that if I change the OS I void my warranty. I was furious, I bought the hardware from Asus there should be no reason I need to be locked into the preinstalled software. I should be able to install Linux on here and they still have to support the hardware. So to keep my warranty I had to leave Win 8. -_-

Power Brick: I don't know if anyone else's does this but if I leave the brick plugged in without the laptop plugged in the brick goes to sleep (it's the best way I can think to put it) so that when I eventually plug the laptop back in it doesn't charge. I have to go to the wall and unplug it and plug it back in to get it to charge again.

Other Thoughts: I've had this laptop almost a year now and while I'm still paying it off, I do not regret the purchase. This is my second gaming laptop from asus and the previous one lasted me 5 years (it was outdated but it still ran amazingly well for such a old machine). The longevity is what made me decide to go with another ASUS.

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Powerful for a Laptop, Great Price, Great for Gaming

Cons: Little heavy

Other Thoughts: I had bought 2 refurbished g73JH series back in 2010 one for me and one for the wife. We gamed on these for 4 years till they gave up.Bought 2 of these machines in Sept. 2014 and they have been terrific. My wife and I game all the time and have not met anything these things could not chew up.
I am sold on Asus Gaming laptops until they prove me wrong

4 out of 5 eggsIt does it's purpose.

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: The performance is okay, I mean it's a little pricey for a gtx 860m but it play games quite well. I play arma 3 with exceptional fps (around 45 in rural areas, 30 in cities) on very high and I can play every game that is available on the market. Overall good for a laptop I guess.

Cons: It's not worth the 1400 dollars I payed for it, it's worth more around the 900 it went for during black Friday. I'd say wait for a sale. The brushed aluminum is like a finger print's dream. Finger prints everywhere!!!!! And the computer likes to put itself into sleep mode and sometimes does not emerge from sleep mode unless I turn it off.

Other Thoughts: Wait for a sale, then it'll be worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsMonster Rig & Portable Size

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Fast powerful performance for my demanding needs. Dvd rom drive and 4 USB ports, Latest wireless technology. i7 processor with eight threads of processing power. Separate cooling for CPU & GPU that really keeps this ROG laptop running cool and Quiet. Nvidia Maxwell GTX 860m with 2 gigs of ddr5 ram. Nice weighted and spacious keyboard with lighting option when in dark. 1080p 17.3 inch display is easy on eyes. Plenty of room for upgrades of ram and hard drives. Plays Borderlands 2, Diablo 3, and many other modern games smoothly at full resolution.

Cons: System is slow and laggy when new out of the box. Windows 8.1 is full on a mess and a chore needing major tweaking. 1 terabyte drive is kinda slow and should be used only as a storage drive. Track pad is to touchy and gets in the way for me when typing and is turned off in bios. (I use mouse) Needs a SSD drive for boot.

Other Thoughts: The ROG g750jm is worth buying with just a few adjustments, tweaks and one (SSD) hard drive (boot) upgrade. I've figured out the (Driver power state failure) issue by disabling the (Nvidia Geforce Experience) and is now using latest Nvidia driver release. I run the power settings on balanced and tweak certain games to run on nvidia when needed manually in the control panel global settings. I hope this helps a lot of you guys/gals out there wanting a great portable performance power house of a laptop. I really do believe it's worth getting, And the time and effort to make it wonderful is so worth it! The reward is a very fast cool running high performing Beast of a Laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsUndecided

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Beautiful display. Well built laptop.

I have watched a live web cast concert using the machine and it performed flawlessly. It can obviously handle data throughput and provide nice video and audio.

Cons: There remains a lot of lag in the mouse response even after ASUS's tech support provided a link to update drivers to correct. Windows 8.1 has a mind of its own. Its new to me so it might just be me being unfamiliar. I bought this machine for the wife to use, hoping it could handle her web surfing and the various sites she regulars. Overall I am not exactly happy with the machine's performance. I expected more from a brand new $1200 laptop. I have been on the fence post about returning it. There is no human tech support provided by ASUS.

The mouse having poor response and not working from one website to another with any consistency is the main complaint. Obviously if the mouse is in-op your whole computing experience will be frustrating.

I have attempted using both wired and wireless mice, Results were the same.

Other Thoughts: I would like to see ASUS correct this mouse issue. I would not recommend this laptop until the issue has been resolved.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment. I certainly understand your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad. Please allow some time to get use to the multi-touch function of the pad. In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update before using the system. This will improve system stability and performance also. Try updating the ASUS Smart Gesture utility and try to configure the touchpad within the application. The touchpad or an external mouse can have an erratic movement if WINDOWS Update or an antivirus software is running in the background. Please allow the applications to complete its taske before using the device. Should you need further technical assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141156209 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsMy 2nd ASUS

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Solid; I'd give 5 stars for the hardware and overall operation of the laptop.
Screen size is very nice, sound is good, too. Some people have indicated
that their units arrived with a BD drive; mine did not :(

Display is bright, crisp and evenly lit; no dead / stuck pixels that I can see.

Smart (automatically shuts off), lighted keyboard is great. I really like the feel
of the keys, too.

This is heavier than an Ultrabook (duh), but it won't burn you lap or get very,
very hot. It's a worthwhile trade off, IMHO.

Cons: Windows 8.1

This is not a Genuine Windows 8.1 product (yea, I'm not happy about that).
It does not meet the minimum requirements of a Microsoft product in that it
is impossible to perform a clean install with this version of Windows (this is
not ASUS's fault). So, you have to be aware that the only way, according to
ASUS's tech support, of performing a clean install is to ship it back to ASUS;
or buy a full equivalent retail version of Windows 8.1. A recovery partition
does *not* count for a clean install; this is a marketing misnomer, BTW.

Manufactures _should_ be required to disclose this to consumers...
You just have to be aware that you'll need to additionally purchase a second
copy of Windows 8.1 to have a maintainable system.

I'm looking into getting a retail refund from Microsoft and applying that to the
purchase of a legitimate version of Windows 8.1...

Dislike the touch pad - no 1 in the world actually makes a usable touch pad,
it's just a real estate hog; why haven't track balls caught on yet - this would
be a perfect application for this sort of thing!

Battery life, but I rarely go for more than a few hours at a time anyway.

I would've like to have gone completely SSD, but the offerings at the time
lacked the option. The 1TB is okay, just worry about mechanical failure.

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd ASUS laptop; there's a reason why. My 1st is an Ultrabook
running both Windows 8.1 and Linux (mostly Linux) in a dual boot configuration.

Don't consider this a laptop; consider this a very full featured portable desktop.

4 out of 5 eggsNice laptop, great deal, slightly unsatisfied GPU and HDD speeds, BSOD bug with GPU Drivers.

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: beautiful chassis design, very streamlined.
decent CPU performance at 2.4GHz, but once Hyper-threads and TURBO to 3.4, it's BLAZING FAST.
I like Windows 8... with Classic Shell
good deal for gaming laptop
not too bulky and heavy
Though I prefer 16GB, 12GB is plenty.
Outstandingly superior cooling.
Runs most of my games well (BL2, BF3, NW MMO, TES:V, DA:O, TERA)

Cons: -slow hard drive, needs SSD!!
-mediocre GTX 860M 2GB GPU (great at gaming, bad at benchmark). forced to run games at High 1080p and no AA
>wanted to achieve at least 40-50fps on UNIGINE test
-I can't run 3DMark w/o an external monitor. apparently there's no DXGI output, since this laptop doesn't support it? What...? other laptops apparently supports it
- terrible benchmark scores (3DMark 11 and UNIGINE)
- bug/driver clash(?) between NVIDIA GPU and ASUS hardware, causing frequent BSOD: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE error. updated all my drivers, removed the "faulty drivers"/replaced with fresh ones, and did clean install of NVIDIA driver every time. nothing worked.

Other Thoughts: at least give an option for 4GB 860M

3 out of 5 eggsMade me pretty sad

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: It's a great laptop overall, it runs just about everything that I throw at it.

Cons: It is completely loaded with bloatware, slow after having it for a while.
My main issue was that Newegg would not let me claim the warranty when I was within and now that I FINALLY got in contact with them my RMA period is over.. How convenient right.

Other Thoughts: The only reason I judged so low was the poor customer service on this. On newegg's part

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. ASUS provides a 90-day warranty coverage for the laptop in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect.
