4 out of 5 eggsGreat and aged well

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: -Works well, plays most games at max settings
-has aged well

Cons: -Its a laptop which means next to no room for upgrades.
-product had a defect when i first got it, however has appeared to have been fixed with windows 10
-heavy

Other Thoughts: overall has been a good computer since i got this almost a year ago. most laptops ive purchased dont last long however this has lasted the longest. its a great laptop for being on the move and being mobile however i still would get a desktop over a laptop for this price.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic laptop! Worth every penny!

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: The laptops design is very sleek. Its super heavy and feels rugged, built like a tank. The keyboard is very nice and responsive, as is the track pad. There are plenty of USB ports on both sides. The intake fan is on the bottom and the hot air is pushed out the back of the laptop. Although it being a laptop, it isn't really mobile. Its not made to take back and forth to school. More like from the bedroom to the living room.

It features two HDD bays. One 1TB HDD, and an empty bay. The RAM is easily accessible. It has two fans. One for the GPU and one for the CPU. The fans and chips are at opposite ends of the laptop thus the heat from one not affecting the other. After several hours of gaming it still runs very cool.

I've never had a problem with this laptop. Not a single BSOD. This laptop has been running perfectly since the day I bought it.

Cons: If you unplug the power supply from the laptop and plug it back in without having had unplugged the supply from the wall and plugging it back in, it won't work. Kinda annoying but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend ROG laptops. Have owned plenty of ASUS desktops and laptops and have never had an issue with any of their products.

2 out of 5 eggsGaming? Uh, don't.

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: -ASUS' reputation for great customer support is well warranted. They took the laptop back and replaced everything broken and sent it back to me within a week. Phone staff is very helpful.
-The keyboard is nice.

Cons: Where to begin...First off, if you are a semi-serious gamer and were looking for a gaming laptop for a mid-tier price then I would recommend selling something, waiting a few months, or whatever you need to do to just spend the extra few hundred dollars and get a real gaming laptop. On-the-"cheap" gaming laptops are just not realistic, there are too many potential bottle-necks and cooling issues.

Issues I Had:
I bought this laptop to take to Afghanistan on deployment. Although it worked great when I first got it, considering it was a "gaming" laptop I expected better performance. I couldn't play Company of Heroes 2 on anything higher than low setting. Really? A RTS requires THAT much juice? Come on. Eventually the system would barely play at that setting and I had to send it back to ASUS. They wrote on the trouble ticket that the system was unstable and replaced the HDD and several other pieces.
-Don't even bother with Fallout 4. It won't even try...
-It occasionally will refuse to load a low intensity game like World of Warships if you wait too long after start-up to start the game.
-Boot Time is around a minute. The depressing part is seeing the "Republic of Gamers" logo every time it starts up and yelling "LIAR!" at the top of your lungs.
-Its heavy.
-Be careful with the plastic piece behind the monitor, over the exhaust vents. They have a tendency to pop-off.

Other Thoughts: Plain and simple. Just get a laptop for a little more money and make SURE there is a SSD. For some reason, this hard drive is just pure garbage. A few months after I got the laptop back from repair I again started having some issues. Nowhere near as bad as the first time but it definitely seems that the HDD is holding this thing back. Granted this shouldn't have a huge impact on graphics performance but I am at a loss as to what else could be the issue. I run system optimization and cleaning software that I have never had issues with and constantly kept my computers at peak efficiency. All I really do is play games and watch youtube on the thing, so there shouldn't be any issues caused by usage. I gave it 2 eggs purely for customer service. If you plan on seeing fast frame-rates on "high" settings, look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 eggsBuy another product

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: -Good for gaming

Cons: -Hard drive dead after a year
-Slow start up

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my wife in June 2014 and in November 2015 she started having problems with it. When trying to power on, the drive spins but no screen action. Sometimes when we held it upside down it would start. Sometimes it took 45 just to get it to turn on. Contacted ASUS and they said it sounds like the hard drive failed and since it is out of warranty (12 months), I'd have to pay for diagnostics and repair. I am a little frustrated that this computer only lasted a little over a year when I have had others last me 6 or 7 before becoming a problem. I wont be buying another ASUS nor recommending any to friends or family. I will tell them to stay away. If you are going to spend $1,500 on a computer, it better last you more than a year.

1 out of 5 eggsDEAD ON ARRIVAL

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: New Egg Customer Service. They are GREAT and take care of their Customers.

Cons: My ROG was DOA. Let it charge from 4:00 yesterday until today. DEAD. Battery light red. Rang ASUS Customer Care first to see if the problem could be resolved. I will not bore you with the obvious attempts. ASUS Customer Care person had me give them my name, addy, telephone, email etc. I am told that a shipping label will be emailed to me AND that I will have to pay for Shipping the ROG to ASUS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Yes, I blew a gasket. The CS person then said that a concession would be made and that I would receive a "one time" free shipping label. That is outrageous. I have the ROG for under 24 hours and they wanted to charge me and act like it is a big deal to give me free shipping for a defective unit. Free shipping should be the standard! Then after that Drama(30 minutes later) I am asked if I spoke with New EGG CS! Of course not. I told the CS person that I rang them first before calling NewEgg to see if the problem could be resolved! Now, I am told that I need to call NewEgg. I do and they are great. New Egg Customer care offered me three options. Return ROG and have another one sent. Refund or new Battery. I opted for new Battery. NewEgg CS also gave me a $25.00 Gift Card and said that they would expedite the shipping from the manufacturer of the Battery. Now THAT is Customer Care. Thank you NewEgg CS this just goes to show how they try to sincerely resolve this unhappy situation.

Other Thoughts: I see that a response was written to a previous one star reviewer from ASUS Customer care and I will address this. To state that ASUS has stringent recertifcation and refurbishment policies is highly doubtful! If my ROG had even been turned on briefly it never would have shipped!!! I have also googled the phrase "ROG ASUS does not power up" and come up with a plethora of complaints by consumers regarding this very matter! ASUS really needs to get their pre-shipping quality control together. I write this also to show that my situation and that of the other 1 Egg reviewer is not an "isolated case" or rare event. I will follow up this review upon reciept of my new battery.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus Ripped Me Off

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Good CPU, decent GPU, 12 gb of ram, the cooling

Cons: Asus ripped me off. I bought this laptop "new" from them and it came with scuffs on the outside and a damaged exterior and ROG light up logo scuffed up. I thought I wouldn't say anything about it because it didn't matter, but now my computer randomly gets blue screens of death and is extremely slow. So in the end I paid 1500 dollars for a used computer......

Other Thoughts: I would appreciate it if asus would help me out....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Nicholas,

I'm glad to know that the CPU, GPU, RAM and cooling system of the unit has met your expectations. I apologize if you thought you have been ripped off by ASUS. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections. I certainly understand your concern regarding the cosmetic issue on the laptop. ASUS provides warranty for the laptop in order to fix or repair any rare defect that may have escaped through the manufacturing process. In regards to the random blue screen of death issue, please try to run System Restore to resolve it. This will revert the system to the last known good configuration. If System Restore didn't help, please do a PC Refresh. If you need further technical assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N151023695 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggsThis pc runs on money

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This is a great pc for people that have decent budget and want to try out gaming without going overboard wit the hardware. It is good for mainstream games at medium to high settings. This pc is mostly made for 2014 titles that were graphically demanding such as war thunder, SOM, GTA V, and other mainstream games. This pc also is good at introducing novice pc ussers to overclocking.

Cons: This is where I have to be brutally honest. The pc last good for a couple of months then it WILL slow down. I am a very cautious and clean pc user. I kept it clean and never overly abused it. But it still broke down over and over again. The first con is when I wanted to overclock it, it is handled by a program that gives you two options "on and off" it is very ineffective, crashes, and doesn't fully utilize the power of the 860m. The pc comes with LOADS of pointless bloatware that slows down boot times and is a pain to erase. The fans work well for a while then they wear down and this is the worst problem I have had so far. The CPU fan has an extremely loud grinding sound as if it is sawing the motherboard in half. When this happens the fan is useless and there is no way to turn it off. The CPU temps went from a cool 30 degrees C to a burning to the touch 80 degrees C. After i bought a $50 cooling pad that added to the noise, The PC would continue to shut off randomly when it is under any type of load. This is not due to the heat but the actually variable causing this is unknown. It will do this around 5 times every hour. The paint used on this pc will fade away and leaves a disgusting texture that is not appealing to the eye at all. I have a very clean room with minimal dust but the pc still finds a way to inhale an extreme amount of dust. The motherboard is coated with layers of thick dust that can be peeled off. All of this would be overlooked if the ASUS support team would do their job but, that obviously isn't the case. ASUS support hung up on me 2 times when I requested help and they angrily refused to give me a new cpu fan when I repeatedly told them that I am more than capable of fixing it myself. I read on many fourms that the support service would allow the customer to install the fan themselves if they requested to but that obviously isn't the case. I don't trust ASUS at all with my broken PC because I feel that sending it would open more problems and would allow them to empty my already empty wallet. If I did trust ASUS I wouldn't have time to send them the unit because I am a very, very, very busy YouTuber that is a month behind on content and is in College trying to become a pilot while in Air Force ROTC as well. This porduct has been a huge inconvenience to me and will destroy my trust for ASUS

Other Thoughts: I have 10 friends that have ASUS ROG computers and they all have had the same issues. This needs to stop I would love to have an upgraded unit because the promises given for this product are all for a limited time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Justin,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections. What you are experiencing are isolated cases. ASUS does stand behind their products and does provide warranty coverage for the laptop but sending replacement parts to customer is not an option that we provide, the unit needs to be sent in for service. If you have issues, questions or concern regarding the product or your recent customer service experience, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150639356 on the subject line. I would be more than glad to assists you.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsIn Love

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great laptop for the money, comes with more than ample power for the games I play (mostly ffxiv if I'm being honest). I haven't had much time to actually play games on it (two jobs sucks) but I use it a lot for programming in Access and it has no problems.

I've seen a lot of people complain about battery life and HDD speed on these laptops. It comes with dual HDD bays so the first thing I did when getting it was make a backup to a flash drive and reinstall the OS onto a SSD. Since that it boots up in 6 seconds (yes I've counted from power button press to login screen) and the battery has almost doubled if I run it on battery saving mode. I can get just over 5 hours out of the battery while coding.

Cons: Doesn't fit in my old Asus laptop backpack :( Nor any other laptop bag I found so I had to go buy the $150 Asus one. Great bag, I don't regret it but it sucks that I had to get another one.

Windows 8 is a pain but I installed Start8 on it and it is much more usable now.

Asus support: I rarely say bad things about support. and this is more of a policy issue but it really grated on my nerves. My intention when buying this was to install windows 7 on it and completely bypass the headache that is windows 8. But when I called asus support just to confirm they had win 7 drivers available I got told that if I change the OS I void my warranty. I was furious, I bought the hardware from Asus there should be no reason I need to be locked into the preinstalled software. I should be able to install Linux on here and they still have to support the hardware. So to keep my warranty I had to leave Win 8. -_-

Power Brick: I don't know if anyone else's does this but if I leave the brick plugged in without the laptop plugged in the brick goes to sleep (it's the best way I can think to put it) so that when I eventually plug the laptop back in it doesn't charge. I have to go to the wall and unplug it and plug it back in to get it to charge again.

Other Thoughts: I've had this laptop almost a year now and while I'm still paying it off, I do not regret the purchase. This is my second gaming laptop from asus and the previous one lasted me 5 years (it was outdated but it still ran amazingly well for such a old machine). The longevity is what made me decide to go with another ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JM-DS71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Powerful for a Laptop, Great Price, Great for Gaming

Cons: Little heavy

Other Thoughts: I had bought 2 refurbished g73JH series back in 2010 one for me and one for the wife. We gamed on these for 4 years till they gave up.Bought 2 of these machines in Sept. 2014 and they have been terrific. My wife and I game all the time and have not met anything these things could not chew up.
I am sold on Asus Gaming laptops until they prove me wrong
