4 out of 5 eggsOver all happy and more

Pros: got to my place in less than 3 days quick ship real good snag on the price will use it just for school/work just rlly need it for word and execl can go on the web np netflixs light weight long battery had a asus eepc this is a bump up hope this one will last over 4+ years

Cons: cant change out the battery...

Other Thoughts: over all happy wish i could be able to change out the battery if needed only down side that i see with the comp reason for 4 eggs

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's good to know that you're happy with the laptop overall. I certainly understand your dissappointment with the internal battery. The internal battery is replaceable but is not easily accessible. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140928283 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: I do most of my work through Citrix, so the specs aren't that important to me, and this smaller form factor is more portable, and works better on tray tables. But the SD slot, USB ports, HDMI output have much more flexibity than Ultrabooks or Chromebooks I'd been looking at. Plus Citrix and a Chromebook don't look like they play together yet.

Oh, and price.

Cons: Glossy screen has glare I'm not used to.

Battery not replaceable. Limited upgrades.

Other Thoughts: Replacing a 10" Asus eee netbook that I've been very happy with but my firm won't allow XP connections anymore. The eee was an Atom 280 with 2GB and an SSD but I do most of my work through Citrix so specs weren't a factor. This has almost the same configuration and battery life, except for a slightly larger size, a USB3.0 port and an HDMI port.

Presumably in time there will be information out there about how to replace the HDD with an SSD, maybe even increase the memory

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ernie,

I'm glad that the laptop works for you although you are concern on some features like glossy screen and not easily replaceable battery. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140905543 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggsBad keyboard on mine; returned. Otherwise a Great Deal.

Pros: Small, light, 5 hr battery life, bright screen, Win8 performance is OK, runs Ubuntu 14.04 quite well. Cheap enough you won't have a meltdown if it gets lost or stolen.

Cons: Battery is not user removable, so what do you do in 2-3 years when it gets weak? The reason for only 2 stars: Mine had an awful keyboard, which is the reason I returned it. Unless I hit the keys carefully, and exactly in the center, I would get a tactile click but there would be no actual keypress! Some keys ('n' was one) I could press on the edge or the corner 10 times, get a tactile and audible click every time, but nothing actually happened. This made using the keyboard almost impossible. Hopefully this was an unusual defect and not just the way they all are. On the positive side of that negative issue, Newegg was great about the return.

Other Thoughts: Are we supposed to throw it out when the battery gets old? Can it be easily replaced if you disassemble the unit? I have not researched this. If the keyboard had been usable, this would have been the Netbook Deal of the Year. Now a couple weeks after my return, it's on sale again at an even lower price: should I try again?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Bruce,

I apologize if you are experiencing issue with the keyboard. Please verify and make sure WINDOWS Update or an antivirus software is not runing in the background. These utilities or applications eat lots of system resources that can caused temporary unresponsiveness to the keyboard. Please let these utilities complete the task before using the system or disable auto settings. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140834258 on the subject line.

4 out of 5 eggsCheapest small and light

Pros: It's on par with chromebook prices, while on sale.

It's reasonably fast and has enough ram.

Good battery life.

Cons: Spinning rust, price/marketing wise I understand it a 50-75 buck price jump to a 240GB SSD from a 550gb HD. Pretty much add 100 bucks onto the price tag to add one.

1366x768 Vertical resolution is not really keeping pace, but this is an issue across the board and the stupidity or 16x9 for PC's.

It's not exactly upgrade friendly.

Other Thoughts: Upgrade the BIOS ASAP just throw it on a thumb drive and use the integrated bios update. With this you can ditch the UFEI stupidity and get windows 7 installed.

These is no touchscreen in this version (even though newegg's description says there is) it's just a copy/paste issue from the higher end models.

Same issue with the lan newegg's specs say gigabit it's a 10/100. It looks like whoever entered this one in was confused.

Got this for a student, it's got enough legs on it battery wise and is light enough to lug around.

Time will tell on durability.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Silas,

I'm glad to know that the laptop is satisfactory. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140831733 on the subject line.

4 out of 5 eggsClarifying product description

Pros: + Bluetooth 4.0 is included. That was not obvious from the listing. So I am ordering a BT mouse. No need to tie up a USB port with a mouse dongle.
+ WiFi is dual band. I'm writing this review connected to 5 GHz.

Cons: The detailed description extols the virtues of the touchscreen version of this machine but that is not what you are buying here. This is the X200MA-DS02 and it does NOT have a touchscreen. A touchscreen on a netbook is not important to me, but it's annoying that there is such a glaring error in the product listing.

Other Thoughts: I tried to figure out which version of this machine has the touchscreen and which does not. I found just more confusion. A listing at A____ even listed this machine as having an Apple processor! Every reference to an X200 at Asus has a touchscreen. The label on the bottom of the case has "X200M" as the model number, and "X200MA-DS02" on the serial number label, so it does match the number in the description. So I am very confused. Can anyone clarify this?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the confusion this may have caused you. The X200MA-DS02 doesn't come with a touchscreen, only the X200MA-RCLT08 comes with a touchscreen. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140831755 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little netbook for the price

Pros: +Big enough and not too small.
+1366x768 is good resolution in this 11.6" screen size.
+HDMI out drives a large 1920x1080 display fine.
+WiFi includes 5 GHz, a pleasant surprise
+Decent performance with WIndows 8.1, though I haven't done much on it yet.
+Keyboard and touch pad are pretty good.
+USB3

Cons: -Battery is not removable.
-Screen color gamut saturation is not great, but there are adjustments. For $250 it's good enough.
-Playing a 1080p mp4 video on an external 1920x1080 monitor while also driving the netbook screen loads both cores to about 100%

Other Thoughts: *Just had this a couple of days but I may order another.
*For $250, running Ubuntu, this seems way more useful than a Chromebook. For price/performance this seems incredible.
*Plan to install Ubuntu 14.04 as dual boot, which I am hoping has pretty zippy performance.
*Don't know about battery life. Will test more and add another review.
*Should be a perfectly fine family notebook - all we need is browsing, video (Prime and Youtube), access to Google docs, LibreOffice. Why pay more? I don't intend to edit video on this!

2 out of 5 eggsReturning - not as advertised

Pros: lightweight, nice screen without a glare.

Cons: Mouse keys on touchpad is quite loud when pushed, but the biggest problem is it is NOT a touchscreen like advertised. If I'm going to have to have to get 8.1 and lose the functionality of win 7, then it really needs to have the touchscreen.

Other Thoughts: said "FEATURES AT-A-GLANCE:
Intuitive touchscreen for an incredible Windows 8.1 experience" but this is not true. The screen is not a touch screen.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. If the wrong laptop was delivered instead of what was ordered, please contact NewEgg directly for sales related issues. 4 out of 5 eggsFantastic portable netbook. Wish it had SSD option or sata 3.

Pros: +Lightweight
+Very responsive touchscreen
+4Gb of ram
+Impressive build for cheap price
+Linux Friendly(without secure boot)
+Speedy baytrail for minor tasks

Cons: -No SSD option
-SSD addition is not user friendly
-SATA 2 max
-Ram is not easily upgradeable
-keyboard sticks slightly

Manufacturer Response:
