Does this laptop come with the free upgrade to windows 10?

Yes it does. As soon as you get the laptop up, there is a windows icon in the lower right corner where you can reserve windows 10. It will download it on July 29th and then tell you that you can install it. Any eligible computer can upgrade to windows 10 for free during the first year of availability.

Does it have an integrated webcam?

I'm not sure if it's an integrated webcam, but the laptop does come with a built-in VGA webcam. A VGA resolution displays in 640x480 max resolution (generally 1.0mp) which means 307200 pixels.
Well, to buy or not to buy should really depends on the general use of the laptop. If you plan on daily video chatting this is not the laptop you'd want. Excluding the webcam this laptop is an overall recommended buy. (p.s. in case if you order one, make sure the screen is working properly as I had my first one returned for replacement for this issue)

No, but you can find cheap external usb cd/dvd drives that work just as well. like SAMSUNG TSST Ultra-Slim Optical Drives or something

Yes, it is!  I just bought this computer a little over a week ago, and when I was setting it up it asked if I wanted to be reminded about the upgrade as soon as it becomes available.

Not without buying an external blu-Ray player. This laptop does not come with an optical drive of any type.

I am just getting into video/photo editing, is this going to be able to support my habit?

I bought this as a gaming laptop. It's not the most "high end" as far as that realm goes, but it does the job. (can play any of my games with stable framerates above 40-60fps at medium settings). Skyrim plays like a charm.

I havent done video work with it directly, but I expect it wouldn't hold you back unless you have some SERIOUS rendering work to do. I've had passable video edits on MUCH weaker computers. I've played a bit with Gimp, and have had no real issues so far either. It's not always instantaneous, but its never slow enough that I would actually complain.

What is the speed of the HDD? 5400/7200 RPM?

You'd be better off getting the K50 with the 256G SSD If you're asking that question. The 1T HDD is for storage that is not for quicker access. Though Asus does equip its laptops with some of the best hardware for the price

Is the machine's case entirely aluminum. Aka is there any plastic?

It is not entirely aluminum, the outer top shell is and the the keyboard area. The bottom and the area around the screen are plastic. I personally think it is a very sturdy and nice design. I wouldn't let the lack of aluminum all over make you not consider this laptop. I think it is a great laptop.

Is this laptop suitable for college? doing homework, taking notes, stuff of that nature? Maybe even watching digital movies while on your downtime...? I'm talking about the i5 model with an SSD + HDD

Pretty much any average laptop can do what you are asking for. The K501LX is good because of its good cpu/gpu for the price. It's a decent budget gaming laptop. If gaming is not important to you, then you should get a different laptop. One thing bad about the K501LX is that its screen has terrible viewing angle and sharpness.
