5 out of 5 eggsShock is the word!!

Pros: I thought I was going to get a computer with nicks, scratches, etc since it is a refurbished item...instead I got a relatively new computer from HP. The AMD A8 APU w/ a Radeon GPU is amazing. This is great entry level notebook for the cost conscious. So far it has been keeping up with all the applications that I have thrown at it. I got a nice system at a relatively cheap price. I added extra ram (G.Skill 4GB) for a total of 8GB. It has made a huge difference. It is now much faster with dual channel enabled. However, my desktop is still my workhorse, but this will do when I need portability.

Cons: Windows 8 was a con initially, but I'm slowly embracing it.

Other Thoughts: Windows 8 appears faster than its predecessors. And it is not that bad once you invest a little time with it. It can be frustrating to maneuver in it especially without the official start button. I but have managed, so far, to, somewhat, embrace it. However, I must admit that I still prefer Windows 7.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value in 17" entry level w/radeon card

Pros: Discrete Radeon video card, does not draw from system RAM. Fast enough to run 4k video from Youtube which is about 2304p resolution. Needless to say, hooking this up to my 1080p tv was effortless. 4 cpu speed is ok, I would say this is equivalent to Intel i3 cpu. I was able to get about 25fps on High Profile with Handbrake to backup a dvd. My i& 2.7gh dual gets 60-100fps.

Cons: WIndows 8 interface is a fugly experiment and a confusing interface. This is not the laptop's fault but HP and Microsoft for using it.

Other Thoughts: The build is adequate, light but sturdy enough for a $350 laptop. No it isn't built like a tank or tough as nails but for $350 I am calling it decent. It will last me a few years. The biggest asset is the radeon card, most laptops in the range use intel 3000 or 4000 graphics which draw off system ram.

Pros: Update to my review below- I spoke with newegg customer service and they are refunding the cost of the return of the faulty item. The customer service rep was very helpful. Excellent service.

4 out of 5 eggsGood desktop replacement

Pros: Good value for money, especially for the large 17' screen. Windows 8 hasn't been too hard to get up to speed on.

Cons: Laptop has become unresponsive several times so we are returning for a replacement, unfortunately under Newegg return policy return of a faulty item is at our cost even though faulty- courier cost is about 10% of the purchase price, making the product not such good value for money anymore. Next time I think I might buy from a store where I can return for free if there are problems- the courier cost of return soon eats up any savings from Newegg's lower sticker price.

Other Thoughts: ac adapter runs very very hot, not sure if that's normal but its concerning.

3 out of 5 eggsHP 2275DX

Pros: Fast, 4 core, 3gb, nice screen, nice keyboard. Was concerned with battery life initially but get 4-5 hours of usage. CPU maintains 2.1-2.3ghz continuous turbo, appears to be throttled based on temperature. 640gb hd and nice finish / look. usb3.0. Wireless N hitting 24mbps through my cable provider and no dropped connections so far.

Performance is good enough to run visual studio, Solidworks and autocad. Gaming performance is good.

Windows 8 is good after you get used to it and install classic shell (to get the old start menu back) and make some adjustments. Fast and reliable.

Very good sound.

3 stars due to being flimsy and the slowish 5400rpm hard drive

Cons: flimsy dvd drive, rattles when you tap the touch pad at times. 5400 rpm harddrive, transfer rate of around 80mb/s which is fairly low for sata3 drive. No bluetooth

Wish they would go with a basic install and provide an option to install hp software if necessary, seems to me everyone uninstalls it anyway.

Other Thoughts: good deal at $369 and fairly fast overall. Considering the price I am happy with the performance overall and its quite a bit faster than my previous amd turion 2 core 2.4ghz laptop.

For general usage leaning towards the technical side of things (3d cad, software development, etc) its a very good computer. For cpu intensive apps I still use my high end desktop.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: This is a very good laptop, bought it for a friend from newegg for $380, and he seems happy for the most part (see cons). It uses the amazing A8 series from AMD making me absolutely jealous. The viewing angle on the screen may not be super great, it still is pretty good, but it looks amazing and it'll prevent people from looking over your shoulder so pretty much perfect

Cons: The problems with this laptop are a little nitpicky. There is a problem with the keyboard the function keys are all set with the fn permanently pressed in, so the functions are set up backwards. Also the computer crashed when running a pretty simple game, but the graphics driver hadn't been updated at that point so maybe it's fixed.

Other Thoughts: I'd say buy it, but don't keep your expectations above that a $400 computer can provide.
