4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -Very fast processor and graphics for office use.
-Attractive and built tough.
-Win7Pro with Win8 Pro license for future upgrade.

Cons: -First one had a display failure within a couple of days. Newegg replaced it and the replacement has been fine for about a month now.
-No Win7 license sticker, so if a Win7 reinstall was ever needed, it would be problematic.

Other Thoughts: After a couple of days of configuring, I noticed the screen turn permanently white when powered on. I tested the VGA out and it displayed normally to external monitor. Called HP and they were GREAT. They confirmed either the LCD or the cabling from LCD to motherboard was bad. They gave me the option to send it in for repair or RMA through Newegg. I wanted a new one, so I chose to RMA. HP gave me a case reference number to provide Newegg for confirmation of hardware failure.
Turnaround time for the RMA was SLOW (about 2 weeks between getting Newegg to RMA the laptop and receiving the replacement). I could not get an automated RMA through newegg.com, it would not allow me (maybe because it was a laptop?). I tried calling Newegg, but was on hold forever. I chose the option to get a callback within a certain amount of time. They never called back. So I resorted to email. I had to email back and forth with them a few times before RMA was approved, and sometimes it took them an entire day to reply to an email, so it took 3 days just to get the RMA approved. I've had better experiences with Newegg support, so I'm hoping this experience was just a fluke.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine

Pros: This computer is quite nice and works well. I prefer Windows XP over Windows 8 and this computer provides this at a reasonable cost

Cons: No real cons

Other Thoughts: Would recommend this computer

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: This Notebook was exactly was I was looking for. The ability to continue to use WIN 7 until ready to upgrade to WIN 8.

Cons: Notebook died after 12 DAYS!! Motherboard died! No warning, just the Black Screen of Death in the middle of some very critical and time sensitive Business work. Contacted HP Support and they are going to assist me, but I am concerned by lack of support from newegg.com.

2 out of 5 eggsBe ready to spend more time and money

Pros: Looks nice. Turns on, lights up.

Cons: Does not include a COA/Product Key. Non-functional if you need to install your own Windows 7 image.

Other Thoughts: Going with Dell next time. HP has deteriorated badly.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed.

Pros: Lots of ports, including two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0(on alternate sides), an SD card reader (in the front), both VGA(old school) and HDMI ports, plus the expected headphone/mic jacks.

720p webcam and microphone mounted on monitor.

Comes loaded with Win 7 Pro, but also includes Win8 if so desired (I intend to keep Win 7).

Touchpad is large, which is nice for someone with big hands.

Plenty fast enough for everyday browsing, writing, and basic work stuff, and has the guts to play newer games like Tomb Raider and Saints Row 4--albeit at low settings, but that hardly matters on a little 15.6" 720p monitor.

It runs WoW almost as well as my quad-core desktop with a GForce FTX 450, though admittedly WoW has always been more dependent on the CPU rather than GPU.

Cons: The keyboard is taking some getting used to, though I can hardly blame the hardware for that--I'm just used to a full-size layout. The same goes for the touchpad, but that falls into the same category as the keyboard. Both those issues are easy enough to solve by having a keyboard and mouse ready to connect, and by having enough ports to use them along with portable drives and other amenities.

The touchpad is rather large, so if I'm using the keyboard for gaming, I find myself repeatedly bumping its buttons unintentionally. It makes me wish the pad were more centered, or situated on the right side instead of the left.

I wish it had more than 4gigs of RAM for leeway, but I can upgrade to 8 if it really becomes an issue.

USB ports seem unusually close together, which makes plugging some devices in side-by-side impossible, though that's likely true of most any laptop.

Does not brew coffee.

Refuses to take the blame for my writer's block.

Other Thoughts: Aside from major gaming uses, this laptop has essentially replaced my desktop. Really the cons so far aren't that glaring; it does what I got it for, so I'm quite happy with it. If I wanted it for gaming, I would have looked a little higher toward an i5 model, but all I do much of lately is write, browse the web, and play a little WoW here and there--all of which it does without complaint--so, until such time as my needs change, I'd call it a fine investment for the price I paid.
