3 out of 5 eggsA fairly good computer - Died upon Win 7 Install

Pros: Plenty of ram, great cpu for the price, alright for games.

Cons: Tried to install Windows 7 and lost everything. Windows 8 refused to let me downgrade and fought me every step of the way until it acted like it was going to work and now won't even boot a recovery disk of any sort. Please help.

Other Thoughts: I really love the computer, i'm willing to try anything to fix it.

2 out of 5 eggsdecent laptop

Pros: bought this last year in October 13, 2014 and i have been playing a lot of games with it
like L4D2, League of Legends, Portal 2, and many more so it runs decently

Cons: if you're a gamer and you like to use a laptop that can last a REALLY long time.
i suggest not buying this... it burns out depending on how you use it then it'll lag a lot making you unable to play games or even play videos on youtube, took 6 months for it to burn out

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: good sound, lightweight

Cons: Application crashes

Other Thoughts: Stay away from Acer. Bought this as an Xmas gift. the recipient is a light user meaning email, browsing and MS Office apps. right away error messages displayed from an ACER application. I think it was for a file synch but in any case we weren't going to use the feature so i uninstalled it. Now we get intermittent application crashes (iTunes). since we passed the return policy I'll have to deal with Acer or correct issues on my own. I've owned my Toshiba Satellite for years without issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop for the Price

Pros: Price was a steal, got it for $350.
6GB of RAM is awesome, most laptops only have 4.
The keyboard is very nice, and includes numeric keypad.
Battery life is good, about 6-7 hours, but that can get cut to around 3 under load.
The processor and graphics preform admirably: can run some somewhat old games at full settings, newer games at pretty good settings, as well as adobe programs without a hitch.
The display is great for the price.
Windows 8.1 is a little annoying, but I got used to it pretty quickly, now I think it's fine.
The wi-fi is perfectly fine (though only 2.4 GHz), and it has bluetooth!
Looks really nice, it's all matte black except for the acer logo on the back, which is shiny silver.
Good size, not much wasted space around the keyboard and display.
Good weight, not too heavy.
Finally, the sticker with the product information comes off easily without leaving a bunch of gunk.

Cons: The trackpad is annoying, but I got used to it. However, the right click is sill hard to preform. I would recommend buying a mouse--a bluetooth one wouldn't take up a port.
This is just me, but I don't really like how there is a gap between the screen and the body where it is not connected. Here the
plastic frame can be pushed in a little bit, separating from the display.
The exhaust port gets hot under load, but it's not bad at all.
Quite a bit of bloatware from acer, but easy to get rid of.

Other Thoughts: Not many: I have been using it the last few weeks at school, it has been great. The battery will usually last the whole day, and it easily runs office and the adobe suite, as well as some games. Additionally, the keyboard is good for word processing and coding.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: The price is low.
Light weight.
Tons of drive space.
Sleek look.
Screen size and look is awesome.

Cons: Runs a tad warm on the bottom but its AMD so that's to be expected.
WINDOWS 8 is pure junk but oh well you deal with it.

Other Thoughts: I paid well under 400 bucks and it does everything I need. Sure I hate windows 8 but not enough to dock an egg and basically use this for weekends at work or when I am traveling. Seems durable even tho it is light and I love the black metal housing around the keyboard and pad its just to bad the entire notebook was not done like this. Graphics are pretty sweet as I can run Diablo 3 and WOW with no issues. Over all just surprised I can get a nice looking laptop like this for such a low price. Nice Job ACER I am digging this thing :)

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: * Specs are nice for a sub $500 machine

Cons: I used it for one day, and then left it to charge overnight. The next morning I woke up and it would not power on. I checked the wall socket with a meter to make sure I had 120v which I did.

The machine bricked after one day of use, and I am very displeased.

4 out of 5 eggsMostly good but let down by the trackpad

Pros: Solid computer with decent performance and low power consumption.

Cons: Smallish battery which does not truly take advantage of the system's power efficiency. I detest the trackpad as it has one button which is built into the pad. Click and drag is very limited. I generally like to use trackpads but have become one of those guys who drags around a mouse.

Other Thoughts: I am running Ubuntu 14.10 and it is running very well. 14.04 had problems with the trackpad but since I don't like the way it operated anyway, I didn't worry about it too much. I hope that Acer didn't pay too much for Windows 8 as I tried it briefly but didn't like it so it was stripped off quickly. Not the computer's fault but I wouldn't have minded paying 10 buck less to get it without an OS.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget laptop.

Pros: First pro is the price, for the hardware you get in this it is really a bargain in my opinion. The CPU is quad core and lets me multitask without lag. Graphically the R5 iGPU is fast enough to run some newer games on their lowest settings without dropping below 30fps. Battery life is above average and is about 6-7 hours if you are just reading and doing office stuff, it gets cut in half if you are watching video's or gaming.

Cons: Painfully slow hard drive, Id much rather have less space and a faster drive. Quite a bit of bloatware. BIOS update needed if you wish to upgrade the graphics drivers to the latest AMD driver.

Other Thoughts: I recommend upgrading this laptop with an SSD drive which I will be doing, also be aware that for some reason trying to run gpu-z would almost always freeze the computer completely forcing me to reset it.

5 out of 5 eggsHard to beat combo

Pros: Specification criteria all match - fast and powerful.

Cons: None found yet

Other Thoughts: I build my own desktops and have for years. I always look for the best price/performance ratio I can find. Price has always lead me to AMD cpus. This package combines all the pieces I would select for a desktop - CPU, memory, and disk at close to the same price I would pay for a home build with the same specs. Windows 8, oh well, you always have to move forward. There is the thing - it is a complete package that uses a small amount of energy. I am not saying it is green but as a laptop it has to be efficient.
By matching the main components I have been impressed with its speed.
I read some peoples questions - guys read the specs, it is all there. It does not have an optical drive but maybe you heard - computers are moving to networking. (Sorry about that.)
I consider this an all around good buy.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Kaveri laptop

Pros: Great Laptop for the money.
AMD's New Kaveri Quad core CPU
6 GB Memory where most others only come with 4GB
Large HD for this class of computer
The screen is good
Relatively light weight for a 15.6" laptop.
Dedicated numeric keypad

Cons: Nothing here would cause me to deduct from my overall rating:
Ram: 4GB x1 + 2GB x1 probably not ideal dual channel solution.
Glossy plastic is a smudge magnet
Construction could be a little more sturdy
Little to no documentation

Other Thoughts: This laptop was purchased to replace my wife's old Gateway Turion powered laptop. Great for browsing, word, etc. Have not tried gaming just yet.

I wish they made a more upscale model with an SSD and 8+ GB memory. I will have to make those upgrades myself which will definitely enhance the overall performance of the machine.

** Make sure you update the BIOS before updating to newest video drivers. Otherwise your graphics will freeze when booting into Windows. BIOS notes show there was a problem that new BIOS fixed.

** There is NO optical drive. This was not an issue for me and figured it would also cut down on weight and price a little bit. For as often as we used it on our old laptop it won't be missed.
