Can I add a second hard drive to this computer at a later date if need be?

All the V3-771/772's have a separate HDD slot. I've had one in my 771 for the longest time. It does not come with the drive bracket, you don't need one but it's HIGHLY recommended

Does this laptop come with a backlit keyboard? I.e., do the keys light up in low light? and if so, is it toggled via a Function key or something? thanks.

nope. no backlit keyboard. the only real issue with the laptop....not much of a issue though. i got used to it.

What brand of ram of ram and how many slots? if i buy it i would like to add another 4 gig chip to take it up to 12.

not sure of the brand. I called sales support before I purchased and asked them a similar question. If I remember correctly the slots are full so you would have to replace the RAM it shipped with. I would call first

Is this available with Windows 7 or with no OS so I can install it myself?

System comes with Windows 8.1 installed. No downgrade to Windows 7 is available on the HD

How's the gameplay on it?

I have not played any games that would challenge the computer. I have only played old school EverQuest, Civilization 4, and Galactic Civilizations 2.

what's the max ram on it?

32GB ram....but it comes with 2 4GB chips, so u would need to remove these 2 and install 4 fresh 8GB chips...I just installed 2 8GB chips in the empty slots taking mine to 24GB ram and it runs like a monster.
