3 out of 5 eggsMixed Bag

Pros: Small, does a relatively decent job, is moderately comfortable on the lap for moderate periods of time.

Cons: It doesn't have a great deal of padding. If your laptop is big/heavy, this gets uncomfortable after awhile. Also, the little rubber gripper/bumpers are supposedly moveable, but they're not that easy to get back in. Subsequently, mine have all disappeared. The fan used to cut in and out sometimes, but not now is simply doesn't work any more. the plastic edges on the top surface have cracked on both sides, which diminishes the structural integrity.

Other Thoughts: To be fair, I have this for about two & a half years, so it's gotten pretty good use. Also, my laptop is a beast (HP Pavillion D7). It has never worked well with this unit. It's a bit too large for it, and since the battery juts downward along the rear edge, it never wants to sit on it firmly. It tends to slide off the back. I'm trying not to weigh that into my rating. Still, I've not really ever thought of this laptop pad as anything better than average.

3 out of 5 eggsNice idea, flawed design

Pros: Comfortable on your lap. The simplicity of the design makes it easy to use. It's just a wedge with fans and padding. It also has two fans, which is not usually the case.

Cons: It's prone to breaking on the edges of the upper surface. I have had two of these. They have both broken in the same place. The reason for this that I use my laptop in my chair. This means that I need to pick it up and move it a lot. The only way to safely do that is to hold the Chill Mat by edges of the upper surface and grip the laptop with your thumbs. There's not a lot of pressure involved, but over time the minute flexing that occurs causes the plastic to crack.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooler while it lasted

Pros: it kept my laptop from shuting down because of over heating, because i dont have AC in my house.

Cons: i had it for a bout 3 months before the cord connecting the mat pulled out just enough to make it stop working unless i wiggled it back into place

2 out of 5 eggsIt Melted.

Pros: It had a good shape to fit on your lap.

Cons: It melted. I suppose its a good enough laptop cooler to use for everyday, 30 minutes to an hours worth of computer stuff, but a laptop normally doesn't get hot that fast. (Or at least mine doesn't). Maybe my laptop just got too hot for it, but still- how the heck does a laptop cooler melt?
The USB doesn't work very well.
The rubber stop things came out. Which wasn't a problem at first, I would just put it back in. But then one at a time, they would fall out somewhere, and I could never find them again.
The cloth came off, within a month of use.

Other Thoughts: All in all... a plastic laptop cooler gets 2/5 from me. 4 months of use is not enough.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not Work

Pros: Fits my large laptop and wont bend under the weight of this 12 pound machine.

Cons: Will not cool my computer. The two fans are not in the right places to cool laptops. I have a Dell latitude D800 ( specs below) an its an 8 year old laptop so i expect it to overheat while sitting on the table but with thing thing its better off on the table. The temps actually increased while using this product because it was blocking the heatsink fans with the rubber feet. Before i moved back to the states from another country i had a fake Coolermaster with one fan and it worked better. And no speed controller and no continuous USB hookup so my usb port is wasted. Even the cheapest of laptop coolers have those. So Targus lives up to its reputation with me of "It works well for everything but what really needs it."

Other Thoughts: My laptop:
8 Years old: overheats at the drop of a hat.
Pentium M 1.6 Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 4200Go
60GB 4200rpm HDD
2gb DDR 233Mhz RAM
Epic Speakers built in

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Two fans - nice feature. Good airflow. Much cheaper than replacing internal cpu fan!

Cons: none. I've been using mine almost a year now - still works.

Other Thoughts: Got mine at another store (local). I wasn't thrilled at first about it's cooling ability until I realized that my internal cpu cooling fan had quit and the cooling pad was the only thing keeping my computer alive - barely. Running in performance mode - I was hitting 99C temps - in econo mode - I stay around 65. Not bad for no internal circulation.

2 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Looks good
Rubber to grip laptop
Long USB Cable --see con
Padding material comfortable
"Angled" for airlfow -- see con

Cons: Cord is weak
Cord length is apt to catch on things if you are walking with your laptop on this
Poor Airflow - The fans are weak IMHO
Laptop still overheats playing games or even watching netflix randomly, yet on a table laptop doesn't overheat hmmmm
Wide size makes it difficult to fit in a backpack
Went through 2 in a year, saw no improvement in temps

Other Thoughts: Sony Vaio VPCF126FM
1.73 ghz intel i7
6gb ram
Nvidia 330M

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mat

Pros: Very nice design. As some other have stated before this design allow you to set it on whatever surface you want and not restrict the airflow. Price isn't too bad either. Big difference in temps. EXTREMELY quiet fans too.

Cons: fans are a little to far up on the mat. I feel they could be placed more central to accommodate more laptops more efficiently, but for most it is still decent placement.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent airflow and QUIET

Pros: Angled design allows more air to flow under the laptop.

The dual fans bring in air from the outside and have kept my laptop ~5 degrees cooler than before.

The fans are QUIET, I don't even notice them unless I'm trying to hear them. My laptop runs louder than the fans do.

It's padded so you can put it on your lap.

Cons: I took away an egg because the fans are placed in the middle of the cooling pad. If your graphics card and processor aren't in the middle of your laptop (mine are on the left) then you may need to reposition your laptop so the fans keep it cool.

During normal use my laptop runs at 45-50 C. When I play games it reaches 70 C. The only time I need to reposition the laptop is during gaming so if you're not a gamer, you won't have a problem.

The rubber stoppers that come with the chill mat are utterly useless. I don't use them and my laptop doesn't slide off.

Other Thoughts: HP Pavilion dv6700t
Vista SP1
Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
2 gigs RAM
GeForce 8400 M GS
