4 out of 5 eggsRubber pads not aligned for EeePC

Pros: Decent aluminum stand, easily configurable fan. Inexpensive - as little as < $5 USD from a competitor after rebate.

Cons: Take a look at the picture: See how there are the two pieces of rubber pad on top far apart, and the one wide rubber strip on the bottom? The ASUS EeePC is the exact OPPOSITE of that - which means the rubber feet won't touch the pads on the cooler and it slips past them. I don't know if this is the case with any other netbooks or if it's an issue with larger notebooks but it's something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts: You would think a cooler of the right size is a no brainer and one size fits all but clearly this is not the case. Of course this issue should be easily remedied by getting some rubber pads from the hardware store, but it could have been rendered a non-issue if Cooler Master changed the design slightly - why not have slightly longer strips of rubber on top, and just have two strips of about the same size on the bottom rather than the one long strip? It's not like the rubber feet on your netbook is going to be in the middle. It looks like they went for appearance over function in this case.

4 out of 5 eggsNifty

Pros: Clever design, light; it works!

Cons: Flimsy wire; too "tilted".

Other Thoughts: I got this for my 12" laptop which traps heat when I put it on my laps. This metal grill lifts the book away from the laps. And with the fan on, it really does cool off the computer . The main complaint I have is that the back of the "grill" is 2 inch tall. This makes the laptop way too "slope-y" (vertical) when placed on it. You have to stretch the screen all the way back in order to have a normal view. I understand that they have to make the back high enough so that the laptop can fit underneath it. But given the fact that most 12"-14" laptops are about one inch thick, they don't have to make the slot that wide. I would slim off at least half and inch or make the back's height adjustable. The newegg video review never put an actual laptop on the grill so we all can see how silly the laptop would look. Also, I would make sure to tie the fan's wire to the grill b/c often the wire on these coolers are flimsily attached and can be broken if the wire dangles too long.

5 out of 5 eggsusing it on a router

Pros: Small and just the perfect size for what I needed. It's pretty quiet even with all my computers off. I love that you can move the fan to where ever you need it. I kept my in the stock position. Good cable length for my application. See my other thoughts for how I am using it.

Cons: None so far.... and I hope never

Other Thoughts: I am using this on a Cisco Dual Band Wireless Router that many users reported getting too hot. I ordered this day one because I felt it was a great idea that others suggested. Once positioned correct it keeps the router at off temps to maybe a few degrees above off temps. Best purchase because I can always use this on another device in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst use-broken fan tab

Pros: Excellent Design, Decent cooling

Cons: The asset is also a liability

Other Thoughts: I currently use a Cooler Master for my 17" entertainment laptop and absolutely love it. After spending nearly $200 to fix a heat related problem that HP was aware of and did not repair, I wanted to be sure to keep it cool and it does an excellent job. So, when I saw this model I decided to pick it up for my 13". First time I used it, I moved the fan to the upper rear quadrant and set down the laptop. Unable to get it seated correctly, I slid the laptop slightly--that's all it took to break of one of the non-moving fan tabs. It still works but I worry about for how long. If the other one snaps it will be useless.
BTW-I agree with another reviewer that the strap is pretty much useless, at least for it's intended purpose.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my needs

Pros: Everything that everyone has complained about works great for me. The USB cord/extender works with my wireless mouse. I haven't checked internal temperatures because that has never been my problem. I use this mostly while in bed and it keeps the sheets and blanket from blocking my MBP vents. It also has reduced the temperature of the actual case when I am using it on my lap. A definite recommend for people with similar problems. I also like that I am able to put my MBP inside a small case and then place that on the inside of the Notepal for travel. This allows you to use minimal storage space to carry with you, especially in a messenger style bag. It also acts as one more little bit of protection from something banging against your bag.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: It cooled my router for a little longer than a month. At least my router can still set on it for better airflow.

Cons: The fan epic failed in about a month and a half. It still moves air I guess, but it's so loud it's unusable.

Other Thoughts: At least it was cheap.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Chris, we are sorry to hear you are having trouble with our cooler. Please do contact us if there is any trouble so we are given the chance to replace the fans under the warranty it carries. You can request replacement of the fans via the Live Chat link below. Respectfully - CMUSA Customer Support.

4 out of 5 eggsRouter Cooler 3000!

Pros: Fan is very quiet. Unit works great for netbooks and ultraportables.

Cons: Kinda flimsy, that's why I took off one egg. Anything more than a netbook or ultraportable would be too much for it.

Other Thoughts: Today I realized that my router (Linksys E3200) runs warm. I set the router on top of this, plugged it's fan into the router's USB port, and voila! Instant difference. The whole router is now cool to the touch, like cooler than room temperature!

While obviously not the intended use for one of these, it works great for keeping my router super cool. I'll be ordering another soon for my ultraportable that was on this before I decided to use it for my router.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Sturdy enough for 15inch laptop. Movable fan.

Cons: laptop slides if you don't seat it perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if my laptop is widescreen 15inch but just doesn't feel secure. I should've ordered the U2 model...
It will be perfect for none widescreen laptops. Otherwise, get the next one above.

5 out of 5 eggssolid little cooler

Pros: Small and quiet. Solid aluminum. The fan can be easily moved.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I use it with a Lenovo U-260 which is like a 12" netbook.
