ASUS V72 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler

  • 2500 RPM ± 10%

  • Copper base + Aluminum fins + 4 x 6mm Copper Heat Pipes
ICON Loading...

When you get down to it, the purpose of a CPU Cooler is to keep your computer’s processor at a safe operating temperature for maximum performance. The V72 CPU cooler by ASUS is a solid-performing classic without unnecessary features that will lower CPU temperatures by 20-30%.

Four 6mm diameter copper heat pipes are embedded in the cooler’s copper base to for maximum thermal transfer. They effortlessly draw damaging heat away from the processor and up to the densely packed array of large aluminum fins which are cooled by the over 48cfm of airflow generated by the 92mm fan spinning on long-lasting sleeved bearings.

Even at its normal 2500 RPM speed, the fan generates less than 22dBA of noise – a level below that of a library. The sound level can be lowered even further using the 4-pin PWM control which allows the BIOS to slow the fan down during low-cycle periods. All of this comes in a lightweight and compact design that will fit into the majority of systems running Intel Duo-Core processors without putting strain on the motherboard – or your wallet.

  • newegg Copper Heat pipes The V72 features copper heat pipes which quickly transfer heat from the CPU die to the packed aluminum fins for awesome heat displacement.
  • newegg Quite Performance With acoustics as low as 22dBA, your high performance rig will no longer sound like a jumbo jet!

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps CPU Cool - Fastened With Screws

Pros: Modestly priced. Keeps my CPU cool.

Fastens securely to the motherboard with screws! None of those cheap plastic push pins that Intel uses on their stock heatsinks.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm not a fan of the stock Intel heatsinks. Their plastic push pins don't seem very sturdy.

This computer started powering off after a few minutes of operation. At the time I wasn't sure exactly what was wrong. And since it was a newer system I didn't have spare parts I could easily swap (for testing) with my kids PC. So it took me 6 months before having the time and money to find and fix the problem with my PC.

Turned out the stock Intel heatsink had come loose. This heatsink had good reviews and I wanted something that would screw down to the motherboard.

Been happy with its performance for over a year now.

5 out of 5 eggsEGGCELENT!

Pros: Well designed and manufactured cooler and whisper quiet. I've felt the copper heat pipes on this during some heavy gaming and its barely even warm to the touch, using an intel quad core 2.3 ghz processor

Cons: Barely fit my GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L motherboard. One of the heat pipes went right over the four pin power connecter. I managed to sqeak it in, but the wire is closer than I would like it.

Other Thoughts: Great buy!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU Cooler

Pros: Small, sleek, and looks good in my case. It screws into the back of the motherboard so it fits in snugly and securely. Take the extra time to take the motherboard out because those stock pushpin things are terrible. Absolutely no problems with this thing, runs cold and quiet.

Cons: n/a

5 out of 5 eggsDelighted

Pros: No push pins, good looks, good cooling, easy installation.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: Became very frustrated with stock cooler push pins (damaged motherboard and cooler pins). This cooler was easy to install with back plate (need to remove motherboard). Looks great. Fits well on Asus P5Q Pro and P5k-E boards Keeps Core 2 Duo E6750 very cool (20-34 C according to PC-Probe).

4 out of 5 eggsSufficient cooler for enthusiast

Pros: I've been running this cooler on an e7400 for over a week now and I found it to be a decent cooler. The fan stays at a low 1700rpm at almost all times when cpu is at stock speeds, even under full load I can barely hear it. The reason I bought it was because it has a small form factor and seemed to be efficient. Intel PWN fan works well with my gigabyte board and I haven't had any trouble with it, keeps my cpu at 25c idle and 45c load. The backplate is great and the price makes this a no brainer.

Cons: The problem comes when overclocking the cpu, I have my e7400 at 3.5GHZ right now and the temp only jumps 5 degrees from stock speed. However to compensate for the heat the fan revs up to 2700rpm which makes it very audible and annoying even with headphones on. I also tried a 4.0GHZ OC and the cpu jumped up to 70c which isn't that hot but the fan is constantly running high to keep it cool. Also as stated the fan does have a slight buzzing sound even at low rpm and the thermal paste that came with it is embarrassing, I replaced with AC5.

Other Thoughts: This cooler is a great alternative to the intel stock HSF, in fact I think intel should start bundling the Asus V72 with all their cpus. It can't cost much more to produce than their current stock model and it is SO much better.

I'm not really that surprised with the lack of OC performance. I am trying a rather extreme OC on my cpu and I'm impressed this cooler did as well as it did. However I want some added insurance so I have a xig 1283 on order. If you're someone who just wants a modest overclock or likes to keep their cpu at stock speeds this cooler is the perfect low cost replacement for the intel stock HSF.

5 out of 5 eggsWow ... what a difference!!!

Pros: This HSF work! I put in my computer last Friday and immediately noticed a drop in CPU temps of 15C. It's quiet, fits in my case wonderfully and was a breeze to install.

My previous HSF was one from Intel which has those absolutely dreadful push-pins. I know how to put them in but they tend to pop out if you move the tower. That's the biggest reason I came here looking for a new HSF.

It only took 15 minutes to install. The little sticky pad was great for holding the bracket in place while aligning the unit.

I used the Arctic Silver Cleaner and Primer to clean the thermal compound that comes with and then applied Arctic Silver 4 using an "X marks the spot" configuration. I'm only 100 hours into the 200 hour burn in so I'm sure my temps will stay low or go lower.

Definitely clean and polish your CPU before installing this HSF. Believe me, it makes a huge difference.

If you're looking for a good HSF at a great price, buy this one but take everyone's advice-Measure!

Cons: Don't really have any ... guess you could say having to remove the mobo is a con but it's not because of the way the HSF attaches.

Other Thoughts: This might be a "con" but not for me. I have a large case and the HSF fit in it nicely. The only obstacle I had was the placement because I had to place the radiator pipes facing the RAM. If I had positioned the unit any differently it would have blocked my 12V outlet and I couldn't place it N-S because of the Southbridge being there. Still, all in all, this is one great HSF and for the price you can't beat it.

Be certain to measure the area in your case. This is a rather large HSF so I don't think it would work in a micro-ATX case but if you have a mid-size like I do, it fits just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great!

Pros: Using thermal grease it came with, this cooler lowered the under-load temperature of my moderately overclocked Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale a full 10 degrees C from the stock intel cooler (55C to 45C)

Cons: Had to remove mobo from case to install. No big deal.

Other Thoughts: I like pie!

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than stock heat sink

Pros: PWM fan no longer ramp up as it used to with stock heat sink and it has brought the temp. and noise level down.

Cons: The included PWM 92mm fan with 80mm mounting holes emits a muffled constant buzzing noise. I replaced it with the 80mm fan from the stock heat sink which got the job done.

Other Thoughts: Intel micro ATX 950 chipset motherboard with a 915 Pentium D processor, four GIGS PC-5300 memory, and a passively cooled 8600 GT video card.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stiff!

Pros: its quiet and was a dream to install. did not run into problem where heat pipes were close to anything, managed to face them away from the RAM slots.

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: Bought for my very first build (it was quite the learning experience), and this little baby never caused me one minute of stress!
Buy it!
