5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler, see below

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Cool, quiet, small... What else is there?

Cons: Read instructions for thermal paste application, says to apply a thin layer to cpu instead of a dot.... I'm assuming to compensate the gaps. I did it this way and the 7700k runs nice and cool, even OC a bit on cpu and gpu.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan - very Quite and Low Profile

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: 1.) Very Very Quiet Fan
2.) Low Profile
3.) 4 Heatpipes for better cooling
4.) Fan can be moved slightly to not cover up an Memory Slots
5.) Large fan which moves more air
6.) Hardware is solid and easy to install

Cons: 1.) The small metal brackets that hold the fan to the heatsink are quite thin and fragile
2.) Fan is large and can block memory slots depending on your layout. (Use low profile memory modules and you should be fine as the fan can be moved slightly)

Other Thoughts: I purchased this fan from Newegg back in September of 2014. I installed it in a low profile HTPC case running an AMD A series CPU. This box gets lots of hours as it is used to watch movies on. It is very important that the computer is quiet while watching movies and this CPU is Perfect for that purpose!

5 out of 5 eggs6 months later

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Best air cooler for the money, even cools the memory, plenty of air flow, and quiet.

Cons: Can be a little tight in a small case with large hands but nothing to whine about.

Other Thoughts: Running a FX4350 @ 4420 MHz for 6 months with idle temps @ 24C average and 50C under load, will buy again for next build.

1 out of 5 eggsKinda Loud

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Low Profile. It will fit into some smaller cases.

Cons: Difficult to install, cooler has cut outs on only one side to access mounting screws, they provide a wrench to access the other side. Fan attachment brackets are flimsy and barely hold the fan in place. Runs too hot for my liking.

Other Thoughts: Not for overclocking obviously. If the install was easier and the fan bracket not so flimsy, I would probably like it. I feel like I wasted $40.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsWill Not Fit 1150 ITX Boards w/ GPU

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Nothing wrong with this cooler - but it is not for use with Socket 1150 ITX Motherboards if you have plans for your PCI-E slot. Maybe my board it just too tight - BIOSTAR B85N 3D. Seems to clear GSkill RAM OK, but it's tight!

120MM CPU coolers are just too big for 1150 ITX in general. My mistake! NewEGG accepted the return, So I replaced with a 92MM Silverstone AR05.

Cons: Part of the learning curve.

3 out of 5 eggsnot sure if this is good....

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: everything works as expected
easy install

Cons: I don't think 58-60 degrees idle is a good thing.....

Other Thoughts: not sure if this is a con but in the BIOS, my mini itx Gigabyte F2A88XN motherboard reads idle temps of 58-60 degrees Celsius... my CPU is an AMD Athlon x4 860k

4 out of 5 eggsgreat for htpc build

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: This keeps my htpc cool and is very quiet. I am using the FX-6300 AM3+ on a micro-atx board. I was a little concerned that the RAM would get in the way, but there is just enough room. It fits comfortably in a cramped htpc case as well.

If you've ever installed an aftermarket cooler before, this is nothing new, but the instructions seem clear enough to me for someone new to this to easily install it without much trouble.

Cons: I was a little disappointed that the actual heat pipes on the bottom have some pretty big gaps between the aluminum and the pipes. I've had heatpipe cpu coolers half this price with a much smoother bottom where its not such a significant gap between the heatpipes. Yes, the thermal paste will fill in the gaps, but metal is a much better conductor of heat than paste, and it would have been nice at this price point to see a better quality job done on ensuring a much smoother bottom.

That being said, it seems to do its job very well and quietly. I opted for this shorter cooler since its going into a htpc build and the cooler I normally depend on my build is much too tall for this application. I think its worth taking off a star just in the fact this model seems to rely too much on using thermal paste and at this price point, I would have expected better build quality.

Other Thoughts: Don't get me wrong, this is a good cpu cooler and a great option for a silent, efficient cooler in tight spaces such as a htpc build. I just wish they had taken a better effort to have a smoother bottom to the cooler so you don't have to use so much thermal paste to make a good contact.

1 out of 5 eggsWorse Than AMD Stock Cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Quiet and fits in my Grandia HTPC case...

Cons: The bottom of the heat sink is not at all level or smooth, with large gaps between the heat pipes where thermal paste collects and warm air pockets can form. My CPU was idling hot (70C) and overheating under load, causing the computer to shut off. I tried reapplying the thermal paste and remounting the heat sink, but it didn't help. Why on earth does the bottom of this thing not have a smooth, polished finish like every other CPU cooler I've used?

Other Thoughts: With the stock cooler installed, the A6-3650 APU in my HTPC idles in the low 30s and hits the low 40s under load. How did Cooler Master manage to make something so much worse than a stock cooler?

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsIn my HTPC

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Cools Great!
Very Quiet!

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: This fits perfectly in my low profile Silverstone MILO ML03B HTPC case. Sound is barely noticeable and is used to cool my Socket AM3+ processor.

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps my CPU cool!

This review is from: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: It looks cool! It is big, and seems to keep my CPU around 40°C. Stays quiet.

Cons: I wish there was holes in the fins for the other two screws. Considering I had to take out the CPU a couple of times, taking out the cooler was a pain to deal with on two of the screws.

Other Thoughts: I remember when I had asked Cooler Master for the specs of the unit for fitment with a particular case, they was a month late contacting me. Not soo good customer service there. Good thing the CPU is good.
