5 out of 5 eggsDynatron solid as always

Pros: Dynatron makes great coolers, have never had a single problem with one and I've have a couple different models that have been running 24/7 for years. I've got two of this particular model in a dual E5420 2U server. Dynatron is my go-to trusted brand for my servers and the peace of mind is definitely worth the slightly higher price compared to the lesser brands. These are all-copper construction and I must say, look pretty slick sitting side-by-side on the motherboard.

Cons: Yes they are loud, they are designed to be 2U rackmount coolers and for that purpose they are IDEAL. All rackmount coolers and PSU's are noisy, if you're building something that will go in your home this is not the correct cooler to use.

Other Thoughts: I just checked temps on this machine and the average across all 8 cores was 46C, with temps typically ranging between 40-55C, though one core oddly shows only 31C. This is at midday full load serving probably 8-10 megabit of web traffic.

It's a 2U machine, sitting in a poorly cooled datacenter and sandwiched in the middle of a stack of hot machines. By comparison the FB-DIMM RAM sticks are showing an average of 61C. (The ram has no head spreaders or other cooling devices but is receiving lots of direct airflow from the case fans.)

3 out of 5 eggsNot great

Pros: Currently running Xeon E5420 2.5GHz at 180 degree F at full load. I had to change the fans, they were so load they made me regret life, even still I was hoping for better than this. They probably work okay with factory fans but then you need to be hard of hearing or putting install them on a rack in another room.

Cons: Noisy fans. Weak performance.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Cooling, loud

Pros: Good cooling, all copper.

Cons: LOUD! if you have room for one of those tall passive heat sinks, go that route. For 2U servers this will do just fine! Wish it had more fins and more heat pipes.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Love the size of this, great cooling.

Cons: Noise... lots of it.

Other Thoughts: I actualy ended up buy two of these and the later onbought two new 60mm fans and rigged them in there, now im much happier. So i would recommend lots of people do the same!

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Moves alot of air, keeps cpu's cool, and great quality...

Cons: Reasonably loud, but is what you expect to get from a cpu fan with the task of cooling a xeon quad core cpu...

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this cpu fan. It is alot better than the passive heatsink that came with my quad-core xeon cpu.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: This cooler keeps my 2.83 Harpertowns at about 35 degrees celcius... no complaints there.

Cons: These things are heavy! No seriously, they weigh about 5 pounds and have got to be like solid copper. They were also pretty loud at first, but that was due to a setting in the bios.

Other Thoughts: If I EVER actually max out my 8 cores, I'll need loud music to drown out these chain saws

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Coolers!

Pros: ease of installation, cooling capability, low noise level, plug n play ability

Cons: won't mow the lawn :(

Other Thoughts: I had mistakenly purchased my dual E5310 xeons for my graphics workstation with the passive heatsinks and they would overheat during rendering at about 85C. They would run at 70-75C during regular load.

After installing two of these badboys they run at 32C and 39C at full load. They're not flashy looking like pentium coolers but they have powerful fans and do an excellent job.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat coolers--Sound like Jet Engines at full blast

Pros: I build computers all the time so trial and error is no stranger to me. This is my first Xeon build. My primary point of concern was the complete lack of aftermarket 771 cooling solutions that were available--none of which boasted rave reviews. I found these which seemed to be the lesser of all evils decided to buy. There were no instructions but installation was for the most part self explanatory--no biggie, I'll get to the cons in the next section. After some tinkering with case fan placement, these two lead weights [no joke-these are heavy as can be], the airflow in the case was all but perfect and cpu's never broke 40deg; albeit i haven't had the opportunity to really break them in properly. All is well as far as temp. is concerned but.....

Cons: These are the loudest fans that i have ever heard in my entire life. First thing: I boot machine for first time and am so distracted by the deafening racket that i cannot even concentrate on configuring the BIOS. I turn it off under the assumption that something MUST be wrong--perhaps I installed the CPU's incorrectly. I remove the coolers and reseat the CPU's only to find the very same result--i need runway ear protection to be within 10 feet. Third time through I stuck it out and weeded through the BIOS and found their default control setting to be disabled--permanently fixed at 8000RPMs!!! Needless to say that I adjusted the settings and that made A WORLD of difference. However, each time i boot/reboot the system, the fans automatically kick in at 8000 RPMs until the BIOS is engaged which can take upwards of 20 seconds. That issue is yet to be resolved.

Other Thoughts: Planned solution: Keep the units as I have become attached to their placement on the board and high quality cooling and replace the fans with a quiet yet powerful alternative not matter the price. Currently researching as we speak and will return with an update when I find a suitable replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsCool, calm, just like my mom.

Pros: Awesome. Keeps the CPUs cool.

Cons: Loud as hell. Two of them next to eachother = loud as hell.

Other Thoughts: No thermal paste included like it said. Had some laying around anyway, so it's not a big deal.

5 out of 5 eggsBest fan for the soket 771, you stupid if you dont buy it

Pros: 41c 100%, 17-19c idle do i have to say more??? I have 2 E5405.

Cons: not really a con but its kinda sort hevy so it used to bend the board untill i realized what those things with the tape on the back and the foam on the fromnt were for, just stick them on the back plate and probleme solved.

Other Thoughts: E5405 x2, 4gb ddr2 667mb, 36gb raptor, 80gb 7.2k, 800gb 7.2k, asus d2 xonar pci sound card.
