Long popular among users for the design and engineering of their products, Zalman continues to deliver on their promise to make computing truly user-friendly by producing quality products backed with excellent service. The CNPS 9700 NT goes a step further by looking good as it cools your AMD or Intel processor.

The aluminum fins are radially arrayed around the 110mm fan to form an aerodynamic wind tunnel which channels air across the convection fins for optimal thermal dissipation. The ultra-thin fins themselves are supported by a trio of large 8mm heat pipes – each one forming a "figure 8" design as it rises from the copper base and passes around the "tunnel" before returning to the other side of the base.

All of the heat sink's components are nickel-plated and polished to a mirrored shine – including the underside of the base where it makes contact with the CPU. The green LED's within the fan reflect off these polished surfaces to add to the already stunning visual style. The 9700 NT comes with a tool-less clip for AMD Socket AM2, 754, 939 or 940 applications and clip and backplate combination for Intel Socket LGA 775/1155/1156 CPUs.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance The "figure 8” heatpipe design, coupled with a copper heatsink and ultra-thin aluminum fins maximizes heat conduction and dissipation. Plus, a large 110mm dual-ball bearing LED fan runs efficiently to deliver unparalleled cooling performance.
  • newegg PWM Function The PWM function automatically adjusts fan speeds according to the CPU temperature for efficient cooling and minimized fan noise.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility As an all-in-one solution for PC systems, the ZALMAN CNPS9700 NT features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939, 940, and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775/1155/1156 platform.

5 out of 5 eggsUsed for a AMD Phenom II X4 955 Build

Pros: Very quiet, kept my quad core processor cool although I was not an overclocker back then so I can't ascertain it's efficacy when you crank up the volts :) Overall I would say I was satisfied with the build and this fan helped my air movement from lower front, to upper back. So point the exhaust of the fan towards the back of the case where your outtake fan is located, and you will need an outtake fan behind this bad boy as it really gives off high velocity exhaust :) I see they are not available right now on Newegg and that really is a shame.

Cons: Installation can be tricky, it is best to place the motherboard horizontally on a desk with some foam underneath, ground yourself and read instructions and see if you can find some videos on Youtube of other fan installations of this type. I see a lot of people saying it is difficult to install, that is simply not the case, you just have to prepare yourself mentally and watch a few videos from different angles to see how it is done. Use the grain of rice method on your cpu as the actual processing unit inside the case is about 25%-35% of the entire processor size and it is smack in the middle.Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use a credit card to smear it on, rather wait 30 seconds for the drop of thermal paste to settle then slowly then place fan on top and move around from side to side like you would twist a can of soda from side to side but not too much, maybe 15-25 degrees each way to help get a good seal.

5 out of 5 eggsMy CPU is cold

Pros: At idle, CPU temp = room temp. At 100% full load on all cores (fold@home workload), my Q6600 (stock speed 2.4GHz) runs at 10-12C above its idle temperature at ~1650RPM. That's pretty fantastic cooling performance

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs4 years and counting also

Pros: Green LED fan looks good.
Keeps my CPU cool.
Compatible with the current i3/i5/i7 CPUs with use of adapter.

Cons: It's discontinued. :(

Other Thoughts: I had planned to continue using this if I ever upgrade, but with it now discontinued and the adapter for it getting hard to find I dunno.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is cool

Pros: Fits inside a Lian Li PC-354. I wanted a 120mm tower cooler and well it wouldn't fit, but this does. Zalman even makes this thing work correctly with AMD chips. The fan doesn't have to blow upwards.

The green LEDs are barely noticeable. Much less annoying than some Blue LEDs that is for sure.

Cons: Don't try to mount this to a motherboard already in a case. The size of it makes using the latch device annoyingly hard.

This thing is pretty loud on full speed. Just a warning. Mine never seemed to get hot enough to force it so loud which is very cool.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible cooling power

Pros: -Solid Construction
-Green LED?
-Super cool
Idle on my i5-2500 with stock cooler was about 39c, under load it was around 70c

Now with this on my idle is down to 20-25c and under load it maxes at about 48c.

Cons: -Hard as hell to mount (had to get a second pair of hands to make life easier)

-Fan was bent and making contact with the fins (nothing a little more bending didn't fix)

Other Thoughts: Used Arctic Silver 5 to mount, much better than the provided zinc based thermal grease.

Would have taken a star off for installation, but the cooling power of this made up for it by a lot.

While installing you will need access to the back of the Mobo to mount, shouldn't be a problem on most cases that have have access behind the Mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy it and keep your parts cool.

Pros: Well made, superb cooling, motherboard-controlled PWM fan, cool green LED.

Cons: Big and clunky. Loud fan at full speed.

Other Thoughts: Easy installation on AM3, slightly more difficult (but not bad) on LGA 1155.

1 out of 5 eggsAMD Socket Nightmare

Pros: Looks pretty effective...
LEDs are pretty

Cons: The orientation of the AMD clips was terrible ("vertical" clip orientation). There was hardly any room to get the clips aligned right--I spent over an hour trying to get it to fit and watched 2 video clips in disbelief to convince myself I was actually doing it correctly.

After installation, it didn't work. And after double-checking everything, I noticed the fan blades were jammed in the heatsinks. Not sure if it came like that or an hour of wrestling the clips caused it or if moving it jammed them [the instructions say specifically to not move the computer once installed], but it isn't functional now.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to be replacing it with a simpler fan. I might try to get an RMA, but I highly doubt I'll get any kind of refund.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Product

Pros: Works great. Keeps the processor cool.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had this heatsink for over 2 years now. The funny thing is, I have an Intel LGA 775 processor and the specs say that it's not compatible. Not sure how I was able to hook this thing up to it. But I have had no problems with it.
