For the PC-enthusiast who wants a desktop that looks sizzling hot, yet stays cool, check out the Zalman CNPS10X Extreme CPU Cooler featuring a fan and heatsink! This hi-tech cooling device lends an edgy, industrial look to your PC with its Black-Pearl nickel finish and LED that glows fiery blue.

The copper heatsink saves space with an architecturally sound 5-pipe system that effortlessly whisks heat away with the help of the adjustable fan’s 120mm blades and 2 ball bearings. A PWM Mate controller and cable are included with your durable Zalman CPU Cooler, allowing you to switch in various fan-speed modes.

Compatible with both Intel LGA 1366, 1156, 775 and AMD socket AM3, AM2+, AM2, 939, 754 platforms, the Zalman CNPS10X Extreme works flawlessly with most late model CPUs, including Intel Core i7 and AMD Phenom II. For ultra-cool protection and aggressive styling, the Zalman CPU Cooler is the way to go.

Not meant for AM3 Socket!!!

Pros: The pro for this heatsink is great cooling I imagine. Even though I have not tested it in production, meaning gaming, it looks like a beast.

Be aware that this heatsink may work well with Intel Sockets, but not so well with AMD AM3 socket.
Cons: Okay, where to begin. First of all, if you are looking at this heatsink for an AM3 socket, I would not suggest it. When mounting it on my Phenom II x4 945, it is pretty wobbly, meaning I am able to twist the heatsink a bit while its mounted on the proccessor. This should not happen, the heatsink should be a solid mount, you should feel comfortable lifting the motherboard from the heatsink, although that is not recommended. After mounting it, I did turn on the motherboard and the heatsink did turn on. I did not feel comfortable going past this point, since the heatsink did not feel secure on the procesor.

Secondly, I have a CM Stacker 130, a pretty big case in my opinion. I could barely fit the heatsink into case with everything around it. The heatsink was so big that it covered up 2 DIMMS on my Asus MOBO. So that automatically was a NO NO. Furthermore, my case has 4 fans that sit on top of the motherbaord, i was not able to put those fans in due to the size of the heatsink.
Other Thoughts: All in All, I believe if you have a big enough case, which has to be pretty freaking big and maybe an INTEL processor, this heatsink could be good. After all it is made by Zalman, and all Zalman heatsinks that I have owned have been perfect with the exception of this one.

The reason mention a Intel processor is because the mounting brackets of this heatsink seem to be alot better than AMD's socket mounting bracket. The intel mounting brackets seem to be a lot more solid and robust.

So the bottom line is I would not suggest this heatsink for an AM3 socket or a small to large-midtower case.

Go ahead, pay $30+ for a name!

Pros: Hey, I'd be the first one to buy one of these and dance on the starts if it lived up to it's assumption by the Zalman fans. But it doesn't! It is cool Zalman has finally moved to the tower design, something they should have done over a year ago, and then work on a deisgn that would battle the best right now. BUT for the money, you can get a Xigmatek or Sunbeam Core Contact and still get better temps than this Extreme. So all you buyers pumping this up, you're just telling us you paid $35 over the ocst of those fine other budget coolers, for similar tempos and A NAME! IMO the hype isn't warranted. Zalman is actually playing catch up here and some of you are applauding it! That is indeed funny.
Cons: Yeah I know some will fire back but they support 1156s, but like you have one to use it on? I just hate when folks pump up a name when there's solid alternatives, IF NOT BETTER, for price and performance. For 80 bucks, you could get a TRUE for petes sake!
Other Thoughts: Besides if you're serious about your air cooling, go with a CM V10. Once the benchers started including the TEC in their revs, it showed its actual prowess. Also, I will admit, if you're getting this for looks, I could see MAYBE dropping the extra for that front, I mean it is a decent looking HSF, and looks like it would be an eye piece on a nice fat mobo, but say that's why yah got it, not because it's some king of the hill. It is not!!

HUGE!

Pros: Very quite and efficient cooler. i7 - 860 never goes over 37 C fully loaded and sits just a few degrees over ambient room temps at idle. Has a nice remote (wired) to control the fan speed.
Cons: HUGE! Make sure this fits your case and MOBO. I am using a GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD6 with Cosair Dominator memory (with the higher heatsink on them) . This thing covers 2 memory slots un-modified. I needed to do a little trimming on the fan shroud to get 4 sticks of memory to fit (6 slot were available on the board). If it fits your board it is definitely the way to go.

Good cooler if you're not afraid to make minor modifications.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: -Very quiet
-Well built
-Manual Fan Control
Cons: I needed to make some minor modifications to surrounding hardware.

1. Most importantly, you need to install this unit on the motherboard before you intall the motherboard into the case. You need to screw in the plastic bracket from UNDER the MoBo. You also need to take the cooler apart (unscrewing the fan part) to screw in 2 of the 4 screws the attach the cooler to the base bracket.

I got stuck doing this after intalling the MoBo and plugging in the wiring would have been a lot easier if the MoBo wasn't already in the case.

2. Patriot RAM is in the way, needed to snip off some of the heatsinks from one of the modules to make the cooler fit, not a big deal.
Other Thoughts: I put in my time researching CPU coolers and this is a top notch cooler. If you are building a highend PC, go with this cooler. It's the best unit for the money.

Pros: A previous post indicated not for AM3. Over the years I've had many aftermarket coolers that are able to twist a little but never wobble (as in actually losing contact with CPU). I don't like it that they do this but i look at the end result before judging. I've used this very sink 4 times now on gaming rig builds for customers and it has delivered great results on the phenom II x4 CPU everytime. Running thru all the torture tests I have in the arsenal it delivers peak temps of 37-39°C and idle temps below 27°C all day long without the first hic-up. The sink is BIG THO! Need a pretty good case to contain it. Used this with Artic Silver 5 and all air cooled case for all 4 rigs I've done. Expensive... but if you like looks... and have the money go for it.
Cons: Looks great. Works like a champion. VERY BIG AND VERY EXPENSIVE. If you are buying this man-up and say you are doing if for looks because there are other coolers at under half the cost that deliver the same results.
