5 out of 5 eggsNice single fan controller

Pros: You can set the fan speed to exactly the speed you need. Typically that means that fan noise is reduced quite a bit, but you can put "peddle to the metal" if you occasionally need it.

Cons: Can warm up somewhat. My suggestion is to zip tie it near the fan grate and let the fan cool it.

Other Thoughts: I would order this again. If you have any problems contact Zalman and they will take care of it.

3 out of 5 eggsOne out of two worked fine

Pros: Nice range in speed variation for the fans the one Zalman was attached.

Cons: Sadly, of the two Zalman Fanmates I purchased the second had only minimal variation between max and min rpms.

Other Thoughts: I'm happy with the Zalman that worked and unhappy with the one that didn't....duh.
Anyway, gonna order 2 more to be safe.

1 out of 5 eggsFAN MATE 2

Pros: Worked great for a day or two and did exactly what it was supposed to.

Cons: Died after 2 days and doesn't alter the speed of the fan anymore, just full speed.
Really wish I would've payed more attention to the reviews, this is a $12 fan extension cord :(

Other Thoughts: It was perfect while it lasted, but then it died.

5 out of 5 eggsNice solution where a 5.25 controller isn't an option

Pros: Relatively small
Small knobs make it easy to allow access outside the case.

Cons: Other than the cables being ugly due to being unsleeved... I can't really think of any.

Other Thoughts: I use these on a number of 4u cases that simply don't have the room or aren't designed for a 5.25 controller. The small knobs can usually be made to fit out the back grating, or out of some of the predrilled screw holes that I am not using to mount them. Some double sided tape, sticky back velcro, or cable ties, combined with the relatively small size allow these things to be mounted in a variety of ways.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: These work great! I used these on some server fans since FreeBSD doesn't work well/at all with fan speed controllers and just runs 100% the whole time. Finally my file server is reasonably quiet!

Cons: Nothing serious, but the included cables are insanely long... so if you're worried about being neat you will have to bundle and tie them up somewhere.

Other Thoughts: After getting these in the mail, I ran to a local computer shop and bought two more to keep on hand for taming loud boxes. I love them!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks and is cheap.

Pros: Very simple to use.

Controls the speed of the fans.

Cons: No elegant mounting option, really.
Zip ties, tape, velcro ect are your friends here.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Add-on to Quiet an Old Case

Pros: This fan controller is exactly what I was looking for to quiet my old Antec 300 case. While the case has served me well for 5-6 years now, it's far from a quiet case (which poses a bit of a problem as a 24/7 bedroom machine).

The device itself feels very solid, especially when mounted with the included adhesive strip. Despite being such a small/cheap product the controller's dial felt smooth and heavy, allowing me to dial in the perfect fan speed for my preferences.

With my (3) Vantec 120mm dual ball-bearing fans I was used to a good bit of noise in a purely aluminum case. I was able to turn them down to near silent operation - though they now push considerably less air.

At first I thought the price was a little high for such a simple product, but I can't think of any other PC-related purchase that has provided me with so much basic utility for so cheap. Also, it's much cheaper (and more versatile) than full 5.25" fan controllers.

Overall I'm very pleased with this Zalman Fan Mate 2 Fan Controller and wish I had purchased it years ago.

Cons: The main flaw I found with this product was the lack of any 3-pin power splitters to support multiple case fans. I can't really see anyone getting this for a single fan so it's a little disappointing not even a single Y-splitter was provided.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's Okay

Pros: Adjustable speed for a fan that doesn't already have it.

It works fairly well when on a higher fan setting but when adjusting the fan below medium, the fan will occasionally stop altogether. I got tired of fiddling with it every time the fan stopped so I took it out and hooked the power directly to the fan. I only bought this because I was concerned about fan speed being too noisy but it's not a problem. Yeah, this works but is not consistently.

Cons: The fan occasionally stops when the setting is medium or below. If your fan is in back of your case, you won't know that it's stopped. Fooling around with this too many times got old so I just removed it. Now it sits in the pile o stuff that never use.

Other Thoughts: This is a purchase that I really could've done without.
