Air Series SP120: Improved heatsink and radiator performance, less noise

Cooling today’s high-performance PCs is a complex task, and a single fan design can’t meet every need. The fan you use to exhaust hot air out of your case might not be the best fan to mount flush against a heatsink or radiator.

Static pressure is the measure of how well a fan can push air in this type of highly restrictive environment, and this is where the SP120 excels. The advanced design of the SP120 provides the higher static pressure that radiators and heatsinks demand, while maintaining a quiet noise profile. Seven ultra-wide, custom-molded blades deliver high static pressure, and the customized fan enclosure helps airflow move in the right direction. The rubber mounts and the advanced hydraulic bearing system combine high reliability with low-noise operation. It’s an ideal solution for radiator and heatsink use, as well as drive bay intakes, and other locations where you’re mounting a fan directly adjacent to a heat source. Three included colored rings allow you to customize the look of the fan to match the rest of your hardware.

  • newegg High Performance Operating at 2350 RPM, the Corsair Air Series SP120 performance edition delivers a strong static pressure of 3.1 mm/H20 and an expressive air flow of up to 62.74 CFM, perfect for use with radiators and heatsinks.
  • newegg Silent cooling The seven ultra-wide, custom-molded blades offer silent cooling, while rubber mounts and the advanced hydraulic bearing system are combined to give silent cooling.
  • newegg Three colored Rings Three included colored rings (red, blue and white) allow you to customize the look of the fan to match the rest of your hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performance

Pros: Very quiet relative to the performance they deliver. Other fans I've used to keep my CPU cool produced a lot more noise to maintain the same idle and load temperatures that these do.

Cons: It can be hard to tell when you've fastened them down hard enough, due to the rubber construction.

Other Thoughts: Amazing for a radiator fan, don't let the low static pressure fool you. They trashed the Enermax fans that came with my Enermax 240 All-In-One despite having only a third the static pressure by keeping it just as cool (it peaked less often) at a fraction of the sound generated.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

Pros: Cool looking fan. The interchangeable rings are an interesting design feature. Corsair could certainly expand the color options and sell just the rings for the modder/enthusiast. Seems well constructed for the most part and certainly moves a substantial amount of air.

Cons: I purchased these fans after seeing how powerful the stock fans that came with my H80i were. I assumed they were the same fan since they are the same model numbers. However, they don't seem to move nearly as much air. Still a powerful fan though. The real issue I found was with the rubber grommets. The included fan screws were too large and put too much stress on the rubber grommet/dampeners. The first screw I put in completely tore the screw housing from the rubber grommet. I switched to standard/smaller fan screws and had no issue but still had to screw very slowly into the rubber grommets to prevent the same issue.

Other Thoughts: Corsair please rethink your mounting design on this fan model. The rubber just isn't robust enough to handle the included screws and barely strong enough for standard fan screws.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -silent
-moves lot of air
-color ring made it easy to match my system scheme
-keep my h100i rad cool

Cons: -not 4 pin

Other Thoughts: installed them in a push/pull setup on a h100i and i like the results!

they aren't loud at all if you have a fan controler.... people tend to exagerate a LOT.

1 out of 5 eggsTearing Rubber Grommets

Pros: Pretty

Cons: Defective

Other Thoughts: Purchased a twin pack plus a single one of these for my latest build. Opened the boxes and laid them out. Really appreciated the build quality upon first inspection. They are very lovely to look at. Swapped the blue ring out for the white one. Looked even better. The trouble came once I started installing them. First screw was a bit awkward to get in, since the rubber grommet on each corner of the fan would not stay in place while screwing the screw in. I had to hold the rubber part of each corner while I twisted each screw into place. Barely tight enough to keep the fan mounted, yet the rubber grommets were struggling to stay in place while screwing. Second fan is worst than the first, but was able to get it mounted after some awkward care. Third fan is even worse, and the rubber grommet completely tears away from the plastic frame before the screw is even remotely tightened.

Seems like a huge flaw in the design, and they should be taken off the market until this is fixed. Not sure why so many people are giving these good reviews. I am curious how anyone mounted these using the included screws.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent fans

Pros: These fans work great mounted vertically and horizontally when used with the proper fan controller. I've seen complaints of noise when mounted horizontally but mostly that was in the case of using the wrong fan controller. I've got 18 of these (8) are mounted horizontally inside my Corsair 900D to 2 480mm radiators running off of a rheobus extreme fan controller. I fold with the PC 24/7 and it's been running since built last January without a single fault. The noise produced by them isn't too bad at full speed but dialed back a bit and I can't hear them while they keep my 4770K and GTX780Ti's nice and cool.

Cons: none so far

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: They cool. They are quiet for how well they cool. You can change the colors of the ring on the housing, if you're into that. You get two of them!!

Cons: They should make the arrows that show which direction the air goes and which is the top a little easier to see. Just had to put something in the con section.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not mount horizontally

Pros: Silent, high air flow in vertical position. Great for vertical mounted radiators or high air flow cases.
Interchangeable rings adapt to what ever style your case is. Rings look very nice under UV light.

Cons: Makes rattling/buzzing/shaking noises when mounted horizontal (blowing air up or down). No fan speed adjustment fixes this.

Noise was subtly annoying at first. Each month it gets worse. It has been 8 months now and the noise is terrible, along with it being abnormally hot where the fan motor is. I am buying replacements now due to fear of one burning up, and have a hard time working in my office due to the noise.

Other Thoughts: It has some thing to do with what bearing type this fan uses. I have bought other brands with the same bearing type and also learned you can NOT mount these horizontal without excessive rattling noise.

I've been building computers for over 12 years. Avoid these fans if you want to mount horizontally. Great for vertical application.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're sorry to hear that you're hearing rattling/buzzing from the fans. From what it sounds like, you might've received a bad unit when you first purchased it. If you would like a replacement, feel free to submit a ticket at or call us at 888-222-4346 and we'll set you up with a new set of fans.

Thank you,

4 out of 5 eggsThey arent too bad for cooling through a radiator

Pros: A pair of these keep my i100 with an 8350 running at about 32 degrees celsius at stock speed, when over clocked to 4.5ghz at idle its about 38 degrees. They run nice and quiet too. under load with the fans turned up to max my overclock is only at 52 celsius. obviously i have room to push my oc further but i like stable and i want my processor to last so i only run my overclock profile when im gaming and recording

Cons: uhhhh one of them started making noise about 2 months ago. it sounds like a bad hard drive struggling to move data. kind of annoying like the old ibm drives. if i open the case and touch the fan for a second it stops making noise for a few minutes then starts up again probably just a bad bearing or something that happens often which is why i deducted only one egg. fans are a moving part and moving parts tend to wear out sometimes. its only a few dollars to replace it, so thats cool with me

Other Thoughts: Honestly i have all corsair AS and SP fans in my system and only one of them is actin up. my case is nice and cool and its not perfectly quiet but with a game or movie at a normal volume you can just barely hear it and thats only if your paying attention to it. i could turn them down more if i wanted to but i think i found a nice balance between performance and quiet using the i100 software
