Version 3 of Mugen provides higher compatibility with a new more compact fin and a thoroughly thought out backplate. The total cooling performance has been increased by refining the M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow Pass-through Structure). Mugen 3 comes with a "Slip Stream" PWM Silent fan for minimizing the noise level at low load as well as maximizing the cooling performance at heavy load.

  • newegg Compatible with LGA2011 Rev. B of Mugen 3 provides additional compatibility with Intel LGA2011 socket (Socket R).
  • newegg F.M.S.B.4 (Flip Mount Super Back-Plate 4) The introduction of F.M.B.S.4 (Flip Mount Super Back-Plate 4) allows for higher compatibility with new generation Motherboards! This universally compatible Back-Plate is capable of mounting large coolers very rigidly onto your Motherboard.
  • newegg Slip Stream PWM + Wide Range Cooling Purposes The fan motor applied is a Slipstream PWM 120 x 120 x 25mm small axis large fan blade model, which minimizes the noise at low load, as well as maximizing the performance of Mugen 3 at heavy load. The fan runs at the speed of 300 rpm (± 180rpm) ~ 1600 rpm (± 10%), generating an air flow of 14.7 CFM ~ 88.11 CFM (24.98 ~ 149.7 m³/h) at a noise level of 9.6 ~ 32.15 dBA. The overall cooling has been carefully designed to meet a Wide Range Cooling Purposes philosophy, providing high level performance for both silent cooling and over-clocking.
  • newegg M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow Pass-Through Structure) By introducing the newly refined M.A.P.S. (Multiple Airflow Pass-through Structure) the total cooling performance has been upgraded by optimizing the pass-through function of the airflow and enhancement of the sturdiness of the heatsink.

2 out of 5 eggsRetention mechanism is cumbersome to install (in my case, non-functional)

Pros: Looks like it would work well, good surface area, fan, etc.

Cons: In my case, with an 1155 based motherboard (DQ77MK) and CPU (i7-3770), the retention screws did not reach from the back of the MB through the bracket attached to the CPU cooler. It was impossible to screw on the nuts that were supposed to retain the CPU cooler bracket. I possibly could have made this work if I bent the bracket. In the end I used the stock cooler that came with the CPU. That was much easier to install, and provides adequate cooling while I search for a better cooler that might actually work.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!!!!

Pros: Definately works great. Run quiet. Looks awesome!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you have a Asus mb, go into the bios and disable your qfan optioin else the fan runs at 600 rpms or less.

5 out of 5 eggsSkythe never dissapoints

Pros: - Smaller heat sink than previous Mugens but with similar performance.
- Relatively easy installation.
- Sturdy installation mechanism
- Consistent performer

Cons: Big pappa. Don't think it would fit inside a micro-ATX (although I haven't actually tried).

Other Thoughts: This is the fourth Mugen I've used in a build, but the first Version 3 I've installed. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall footprint and completely thrilled with the equal (if not better) performance than previous versions.

One of the things I like most about the Mugen is how it installs. I've experienced all sorts of different ways to mount a heat sink, and Skythe does it right.

3 out of 5 eggsGood performance/ aweful mount

Pros: I had a really popular Artic Cooling HS&F before this. My CPU was in the 40s at idle, would exceed 58 in prime and I wanted to try over clocking my AMD 955. I am now in the mid 30 when idling at 4.0gigz and 44 is the hottest its gotten in prime. I have stressed it for 8 hours. I also got two 120x38mm scythe fans (2x133 air flow!) for a push/pull. I am only using one right now but either way, this HS&F works without costing $80+.

Cons: You have the tighten the screws up from the back, meaning, the bottom of the motherboard. This way seems counter intuitive and looks flimsy. Some of the fins were bent out of box. And there were no AMD installation instructions. Scythe's website did not offer much help either. Their product is loosing eggs over some of this.

Other Thoughts: Plenty of room for my ram. Its quiet. I have it running at max RPM and its no loader then the rest of the fans.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Mugen yet

Pros: Owned v1, v2 and now this thing. I wouldn't consider buying a different heatsink. Installation was a snap, which is a nice change from the previous iterations.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsInexpensive solution

Pros: This is an inexpensive solution to an LGA 2011 processor. Fan works well, heatsink is adequate. Running an i7 3820 with this and average temperature seems to be between 32 Celsius and 41 Celsius depending on load.

Cons: The one that was delivered to me had bent fins on the heatsink on one side. Not a deal breaker and easy to fix, but annoying. The fan retention clips are flimsy and difficult to use. To install the heatsink, the fan cannot be installed yet, the fan blocks one side of the screws. Depending on yoru case, installing the fan onto the heatsink may be extremely difficult as you won't be able to see if the fan retention clips are secured on the bottom. You can however install the heatsink and fan onto the motherboard before installing the motherboard, but you'll miss securing one of the motherboard screws. Not the best design, but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: It's a decent heatsink, the fan can be replace and probably should be if you plan on overclocking. then again, if you plan on overclocking, I'd look into getting a more heavy duty cooler. But for everyday regular use, this cpu heatsink and fan seems to work well.
